  1. "Any politician found to be involved in election fraud and vote-buying (including giving "gift" money to community leaders to hold meetings, or as wedding/birthday gifts, etc) will be handed a mandatory jail term and fine and be banned for life from politics (retroactive effect, and no statute of limitations)."

Then you will have anarchy since there won't be any politicians left to run for officeclap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gif

May be anarchý would be the preferable option?

  2. It was not the smartest course of action but you did made sure there was no potential harm done to the old ladies and child. You earned good karma, my friend. I admire your courage, can't say that to many people these days. Be proud of the good thing you did instead of contemplating how stupid you are. Life is short. Yes It could have gone very badly, but aparently, buddha did smile upon you that day. So keep on walking, Johnny.

There was no courage.. and if i had time to think about it i probably had not done it. That was part of what scared me that I who normally the guy who avoid stuff like this and certainly never wants to be in a fight.

    Respect and congratulations.

It was courage. Courage does not come from thinking but from the heart. Your heart acted and this was good. Do not overvalue thoughts. They are bias that more often than not will lead you to the wrong direction. You should approve yourself for having done the right thing. Your thoughts are trying to make you disapprove yourself.

  3. If you think corruption will end in Thailand when the Shinawatras are gone, you are blind.

The Shin corruption will be gone. That will be a start, and a start is better than not.

And you think that getting rid of Shinawatra corruption and replacing it with Abhisit and Suthep corruption will bring peace to the country? If anything, it will make it worse.

how can you be so sure that Abhisit and Suthep would replace the S. corruption?

  4. Whether the protesters' activities violated the Criminal Code or other laws is up to the authorities in charge to take legal action but their activities did not lead to a belief that they aimed at removing the country's administration, concluded the court.

So the court has yet again shown it's bias against the elected government.

So the court has yet again shown it's bias against the elected anti democratic government.

    What is wrong with that?

  5. From your commentary it would seem that you're a very 'externally based' individual. As are so many people, so it's not surprising to read about your ever looming 'boredom.' I would suggest doing a little inward searching. Satisfaction based on external stimuli will always, at some point, fall or run short. It's just the way it is. Also, instead of just receiving...have you considered giving?!?! It's been said that if you want to add some meaning and fullfillment in your life, volunteering to help others in need will always satisfy. Just a few points for consideration.

Finding something internally that will make you independent from your external experience might be a good idea.

Many temples offer meditation courses for farangs. You do not need to be a Buddhist or Hindu or even religious for that.

Searching in the internet about the avantage and the how to of meditation as well as locations could be helpful.

Just google "meditation retreat thailand" e.g. smile.png

  6. What a sad day for Thailand!!

The powers behind the scene pulling the strings and getting their way again!!

All to keep an outdated feudal system in place!!bah.gif

And I see the Shins for, what they are. A corrupt family feeding their cronies!

If all this ends with a "peoples council", the clock has just been turned back another 50 years!!

What is wrong with a Peoples Council if it is a council of the people....if that occurred then the clock would be starting to move to the next 50 years with a better opportunity for Democracy. Suthep may only be the way and not the solution.

When I read all the people condmening the people's council that Suthep suggests in order to end the antidemocracy that resulted from the present constitution (or its abuse) . And to act before election in this corrupt system would perpetuate the bug - I wonder if the constitution makers who gave Germany the constitution after the war were democratically elected. And if not - was it a mistake?
Why should it be wrong to have independent people fixing the conditions to allow clean democratic elections and a cleaner democracy in Thailand?
Notabene Suthep said he will nor be member of the council nor of the next government!
  7. Maybe the shooting was self defense?

With a truck full of (well known as violent) red shirts rushing to attack you. You have a gun. What would you do?

    And:

    1. the police let the red shirts attack (did not stop the truck)

    2. Can we believe the story that police and red shirts are telling ?

We 've got some experience about their credibility

  8. The arrogant and selfish group of the Bangkok expat crowd once again here, supporting the crooked yellow elite. You would throw to the wolves the majority of Thai people, just for keeping your daily business going as usual. Isaan should burn, according to you. Democracy means nothing to you, it must be really inconvenient for you!

How dare those Thais outside Bangkok demand their rights?! They should just bow before their masters and be thankful. Their feudal slave masters know what is best for them!

  9. I find so much dangerous and illegal what Suthep is doing, in any other westerner civilized country he and other leaders would have been arrested on multiple counts...

But we have to remember we are in Thailand, and things does not work that way. Let's brace on 12th and hope everything will go well.

I see possibility of military coup before that day growing exponentially...

I find so much dangerous and illegal what Suthep is doing, in any other westerner civilized country he and other leaders would have been arrested on multiple counts... ?

    you mixed it up:

    This is correct:

I find so much dangerous and illegal what the Shinawatra government is doing, in any other westerner civilized country they would have been arrested on multiple counts...

  10. I just extended my reply to a second dog post..talking about Alpha dogs...

I do not know how you relate with your dogs...what I know is that you NEED to be the BIG alpha in their minds...About the relationship between your ridgeback and the husky...try this.

When they are together, hold and press the ridgeback belly up on the floor and do not let him to get away. He will resist until calm down totally. At that point you can release the pressure slowly and let it go....slowly. Encourage the husky to be close or share space with the ridgeback in your presence.....and do the same "treatment" every time the ridgeback is upset. Show that you are the BIG alpha in the trio....

Thank you very much. Read about that before, but also that turning the dog on the back will damage its character, even break it. That's why until now I did not use it.

After your recommandation I changed my mind and also used it 2 or 3 times. Easy to do. Seems the husky did not dare to come nearer after the first time. Now it seems that this is changing. Will watch how it goes on.

  11. We got two dogs at the same time as 6 resp. 8 weeks old puppies. Both bitches. The smaller one is the alfa and

suppresses her fellow dog. Now they are about 14 months. Sometimes they fight fiercely. Fortunately no serious injuries by now.

I have been told this would not have happened if they were of different sex.

Hope this is not too much off topic.

Finding the dog experts commenting here I wouild be happy if they could also have a look at my new threat "getting a third dog"

  12. In another thread (getting a second dog) I found some dog experts commenting. That encourages me to this post.

we 've got two dogs living in our 8 rai land. They are both bitches, 14 months old. One is a Thai ridgeback, weighing about 15 kg, the other is a Husky, about 30 kg.

Unfortunately the small ridgeback is dominating the double size husky. The husky really fears her fellow dog. She avoids to go to an area if the ridgeback is there and growling.

Now we are happy to get a male German Shephard puppy next week, which is intended to be the top watchdog.

We are afraid that while he is still a small puppy the ridgeback will dominate him as well and that he will still fear her even when he is full grown.

Any suggestions how to avoid that?

I just learned that we should introduce the puppy on neutral ground which we will do.

Your help is very much appreciated.

  13. Interesting OP.

I wonder if the OP reflects a new reality in Thailand that the view foreigners have of Thailand are of some importance, or of some significance, impact.

It had always been clear to us that Thais don't give a rat's arse what foreigners here or abroad think or believe about their Paradise, the place that for some time now has in reality been the former LOS.

However, Thailand has for the past seven years been getting a steady drumbeat of exclusively negative press/media throughout the world, beginning with the coup of 2006.

And the global press/media have simply been showing the reality of Thailand on the ground, to include the 2010 burning of the CBD by the Reds, and of the army shooting Thais and foreign journalists - and so much more of a dangerous and violent place.

Or does the OP only care about the foreigner he got caught up having to talk with because the foreigner isn't a fahlang foreigner (from Hong Kong)?

I know Thais studying abroad in any one of the English speaking fahlang lands always get it put to them that Thailand is a violent place, a statement the Thais abroad find disconcerting in the extreme but which is accurate to the foreigners who for a long time now have repeatedly seen violence and more violence coming out of Thailand.

The only counterweight to the news are the TAT promos that present Thailand as having the beaches and the Phuket-type spots the foreigner presented by the OP refers to. The TAT promos however are alongside the violence foreigners see on the news, so they don't and can't negate the violence or street chaos of the Thailand of late.

Maybe Thais have begun to care what foreigners think and believe.

I wonder about this sentence: "the army shooting Thais and foreign journalists ." Did this not happen because the reds and their boss where supported by police who refused their duty of finishing the illegal occupation of puplic area by the reds at an early time as it was ordered by the gobernment? So the government had no choice. Am I correctly infomed? If not, please help me

  14. I just stumbled over the topic of producing your own gas and electric power with a diy biogas power plant.

This produces methan gas from organic waste. You can use the gas in a stove or burn it in a generator.

We own an 8 rai property and have a lot of grass cut two times per month which could be used.

I learned it is used in many hot countries in SEA and Australia. You can find about it in the internet.

One website about this is http://www.libertygeneratorreview.com/building-a-liberty-generator-device/

Has anyone experience and can advise?

    Honk

  15. Before talking about it we should know what is religion?

    What is it's purpose?

    And do we need it?

Why should I believe in a God that somebody tells me is existing, but I cannot experience her/him?

Why should I fear that this guy one day will punish me for not believing?

And btw about the Christian God: What character is it to create beings, make them imperfect (=sinners) and then punish them for the misconstruction he/she made? Is it the faults of his creation or of the creator?

Back to the questions in the beginning:

Lenin said religion is opium for the people. Why? Because it gives other humans power over them and deludes them about this fact.

But oviously there is some need, something that humans seek in religion.

The Buddha gives an answer with 4 simple statements:

there is suffering in every life

the cause of the suffering is wanting (which leads to not getting what you want, getting what you do not want)

there is a way out of suffering

this way is being ethical (8 fold path, part of it is meditation=make your own experience)

I think everybody wants a happy, undisturbable life without low emotions like fear etc.

Normally this does not happen - at least not in a sufficient extent

So there is a need for help, be it from a god or the gods which means devotion and believe - but what if you are not experiencing any god? Only hear other people talk - and do these people have the ideal life?

Btw. somebody said: the humans create the god that they deserve

I think there is another way out: Improving yourself, Understanding, may be with help.

But the understanding, the experience can only be done by yourself.

This is, at least partially the way of spirituality.

    Is God existing?

    If I experience HIM/HER, yes.

But maybe this experience could show me he/she is not at all what any of the religions claim.

The Buddha eg tought meditation, and it is said that he attained his "superhuman" state by meditation.

He never claimed to be a god - nor did his contemporary followers

And now about the religiosity of most of the Thai ppl:

it is not what the buddha taught,

only in parts (which is useful for the buddhist clerus)

They live in fear and they understand the law of karma that if they did something bad

they have to do something good do remove the "bad karma". The easiest way is to go to the temple and offer something.

They can even do it in advance commiting their sin.

(The catholic church had the same which lead to the Reformation of Luther in Germany)

Even Buddhism which is an invaluable philosophy or spiritual teaching, not a religion, was made a religion and opium for the ppl.
