  1. We're a family of 4. I would find it very hard to live in Jomtien without having transport and a Makro, big c or lotus nearby. Luckily there's all 3 on the same road within a few km of eachother. If I was single and no kids, then I wouldn't need to cook at home and could live off just street food and restaurants. But yeah without having a car and a bike I would be bored very fast living in Jomtien.
  2. Thanks my wife and her family can still teach him mandarin. We plan to live here for the long term so we are looking for normal internationals schools in bkk and not ones that cater to learning Chinese as he will have no issues learning more of that. We appreciate the suggestion though. As i said above having looked at another posters suggestion we think its best to get him learning English and some Thai straight away and during the Thai holidays, then try to enroll in a thai/eng int school for the new school year in August. And hopefully he won't be too much behind the kids his age and just a year below instead of like 2 or 3 years like the current situation.
  3. Is there a school or private classes that run during the Thai int school holidays in BKK. I think this is probably the best route for him. As looking at the academic calendar its a few months left then the summer holiday. So ideally we're looking to find a place that specialise in English from march- July. Then send him to a proper international school in August for the new 1st semester/ school year. I have searched but they seemed to be based for adults wanting to learn English, not kids. Thanks in advance .
  4. So I, my wife and our 2 kids will be moving to Thailand from mid-March and relocating there. Our son is 5 and our daughter is 2. They have been living in China with my wife and her family. I have been living in Singapore and working there and I visited them a couple of times in 2023, but previously due to lockdowns in China and my work I was only able to see them once in like 3 years. Before that, my son didn't speak many words. The reason for mentioning all this is that we want to send our son to an International school in Thailand when we arrive, but he speaks about 90% Mandarin and just only about 10% English. So his English level is of a 2 year old child even though he's 5. I know it's stupid considering my wife is Chinese but fluent in English so yes he should know a lot more than he does. He was sent to a local Chinese school for the last 2 and a half years, my wife was too lazy to teach him English in the years we haven't been able to live together due to our work commitments and her dealing with our daughter, he was pretty much raised by her parents. So yes it's a bit of a mess. Anyway I was just looking for what is the best route to go with our son. Would he even get accepted into an International school if he can barely speak English and knows 0 Thai? If they did I'm guessing he would be put in a class with like 2-year-olds when he's really 5 due to his English level. I would feel bad for him as he wouldn't be able to make friends. Just at least we can all be together all the time now so our daughter won't have this experience as she's still young. Some advice would be appreciated.
  5. Is there a charge on how many you can do per month with Bangkok bank? For example it's really stupid. I get charged for using my card to withdraw cash outside bkk 20thb or 15thb . However if I do a cardless withdrawal I don't get charged any fee in any province. If it's unlimited cardless withdrawls then they may as well just scrap the card fee.
  6. Wirebarley Western union (if you do online not cash) Remitly I used once fine. Then they wanted loads of documents more than just the usual kyc and way too many personal questions. Like everything last thing detail about my wife. Was really weird. Never used after that. PandaRemit They are all ones that I've used and work fine. Take your pick.
  7. I did one on a Thursday and didn't get it till Tuesday afternoon. Funnily enough after I complained and they came back with we will investigate it. 20 minutes later the money was sent and I never got a reply as to what the hold up was. It said it will arrive Friday, then said money taking longer to pay out and it would be Monday. Then it came Tuesday. . Sometimes they just like to hold onto your money as long as possible like every other business.
  8. For anyone who is interested. Spoke to 2 Yamaha dealers in bkk. One reckons the end of next week and the other says by end of the month they'll have them in stock for sale.
  9. I have 2018 model. Think the only upgrades they've done really are increased the fuel tank from 4.5 to 5.5 litres and maybe a small design change. Other than that I can't recall any major difference having trying a friend's 21 model a few months ago after using my 18 model. I just thought it had been many years and got over 30k km on the belt so now I would replace it. Tbh the same could be said with literally every bike, just like new iPhones, iPads and everything else that comes out with a "new version" religiously every year. The differences year on year are very minimal. Which is why I only bother to replace stuff like that in 4 or 5 year cycles.
  10. Thanks. I just literally looked a couple days ago and only saw the 2022 model. I will enquire at the dealership about the release date or have many months I need to " pre order" Not a fan of the ABS colours this year. Look kind of hidous to be honest.
  11. What time of year do they normally release the new aerox? Was looking at getting one, but wasn't sure if the 23-24 model would be out soon and worth waiting.
  12. Depends on what their definition of "hiso is" some people seem to confuse it with middle/upper class.
  13. They won't touch you. Best you can do is fine one with a "normal job". Surprisingly they do exist. Despite what everyone says. In over 10 years in Asia I've never dated a girl who didn't have a real job. They are not crazy and actually normal and not going to suck all your money in a few years. I am happily married for over 5 years and have 2 kids with a one. Albeit she's Chinese and not Thai. The point is, she would do anything for me. Like literally anything if I asked her and needed help or something. I wouldn't swap that for anything. My sinsod cost me 0 baht. I dated a few Thai girls and they were all good experience also and showed a lot of care for me. I just couldn't give the same feelings back, like I found I have with my wife. However as I said they were all good and not one was drama or a nasty breakup. They all had decent jobs, self sufficient, wouldn't have asked me for a sinsod. Most of foreigner bad experiences are the ones who mix with girls inaround the party/bar scene. A rich hiso Thai girl wouldn't pi$$ on you if she saw you on fire. Let alone stop to waste her oxygen to talk to you. Find one you trust. Don't be as shallow as those gold digger Thai girls. Money can't buy love.
  14. Visa and MasterCard set the exchange rate everyday. Depending on what day your bank actually settles your transaction. Usually 2-3 after a purchase abroad. That's the rate you'll get when it's actually settled. Not when you pay. https://www.visa.co.th/en_TH/support/consumer/travel-support/exchange-rate-calculator.html https://www.mastercard.us/en-us/personal/get-support/convert-currency.html Plus the bank fee which most is usually 2-3% unless you have a account with 0 foreign transaction fees.
  15. I had 3 banks here and because I didn't use them for over a year since I couldn't travel due to covid19. They all closed my accounts. I had opened them up with a tourist visa and a rental contract. Which wasn't an easy process even in 2017. Trial and error going to many different branches. If known this I would have just kept them active because I know how much of a pain it was to get in the first place. I have other accounts that are still open (outside Thailand) without using for many years so I didn't expect all my accounts to get closed here . None of them interested in opening them again. Krungsri, uob and bangkok bank. All insisting need work permit or long term visa. Tried about 5 different branches of banks in different areas over town. In the same boat as you. In Bangkok. Siam legal seems the cheapest although it still is expensive 5300 baht + any insurance they may want you to buy. I asked a few other one quoted me 8k and another 12k!!! Pattaya most agents seems to be able to do for around 4000 baht. Although I'm living in BKK is it more convienient if I open it up in a Bangkok branch I guess incase I need documents or something I can only get from where I opened account? Or would it not make any difference and can get from any branch? I have to go to Pattaya in a couple weeks anyway so would just get it done there if this wouldn't cause an issue. Or if anyone else knows a cheaper agent in BKK please tell. Or has opened account on a tourist visa since Thailand has been open again properly what branches did you have luck with. Thanks I know lots of people will say it's easy to open yourself blah blah but it's really not anymore on a short term visa and even a year rental agreement . Having done it myself before and trying to do it again now. It really isn't easy and the banks are definitely much more stricter and all seem to be sticking to the same policy. Whereas it used to just be bangkok bank, k bank and scb . Were always the hardest. Now even ones like uob and krungsri all wanting work permits or retirement/marriage visas. Whereas before they didn't require this.
  16. Thanks for the advice Sheryl seems like a lot of hassle. I will try to find a private hospital out the way of Bangkok a little and see if I find one with a more reasonable docotor fee and nursery and midwifery charges and other medical charges that are always on the bill . If I work out it at Camillion for my dose it would cost about 12,000 thb a month. just over 1500 per visit. So if I can find one say which charge about 2/3rds doctor fees at Camillion I would suckup and just pay 8k a month till I go back to Singapore and get my normal refill.
  17. I have a Singaporean prescription for xanax (alprazolam). Which they don't seem to accept here. For the last 8 years I have been taking 2m daily and 2mg in evening. I don't need to be preached about the pros and cons of taking this drug. I know the effects and don't need to be told how addictive, bad for body etc. It's the only thing that works for me having tried various alternatives over the years. Anyway to my problem. I have been to bumrungrad, camillion and another one I think Samitivej? (japanese one thonglor area). I explain to the doctor my situation and how I live here and work here and I need to be able to refill this medicine when finished. 2 doctors just gave me 15x0.5mg pills, the other doctor at camillion gave me 30x0.5mg. Even I show them my prescription and explain my usual dosage 4x0.5mg moring 4x0.5mg evening So the first 2 doctors gave me not even enough for 2 days lol and the last one just 4 days of my dosage. I had to pay about 2.700 at bumrugrad, just over 2k at sammitivej and over 1k at camillion. The medicine costs just 160thb for 30 pills 80thb for 15 pills. The charges to see a doctor and other fees for not even 30 seconds make this process very frustrating. It's almost like its a scam to keep stupid falang to keep visiting a doctor just to say you want a medicine and the doctor say ok. And you pay stupid money for a 30 second conversation and deliberately give you a low dose to keep you coming back. Instead of just giving me a script I can refill when empty. I don't care if I pay 5000 one time and can just get enough for a month supply or whatever, but right now i t's stupid pay a few thousands every time just to be able to sleep for 2-4 days. Rinse and repeat. How can i get a prescription here and just go direct to hospital pharmacy directly and avoid these rip off doctor fees when I am out the room in less than 30 seconds?
  18. Another price increase today `Leo has gone from 626 a box to 644 a box downtown bkk area at least. Chang went from 601 to 619 a month or so back. Who is protesting outside city hall tomorrow?
  19. Having just gone through a similar experience. Trying to find a place, but not wanting a year contract + 2 months rent deposit + month it advance. I found the best way is to book service apartment rooms on Agoda (think what they're categorised under on Agoda). Just filter for these type of rooms, book for one night. If you like the place you can ask about long term stay. These type of accommodations are generally looking for long term stays anyway. I tried about 4 different ones, until I found the one I wanted. They did a 1 month, 3 month contract price, 6 months and a 12 month. It was just a month rent deposit they didn't want 2 months. 3 months was like 1.5k cheaper pm than 1 month. 6 months was 2k cheaper and a year like 2.5k cheaper per month. Just keep searching, you will find one I remember I saw some on Agoda that sort of area when I was looking for a place. I guess same applys to Airbnb just rent one night if you like it then talk to seller about price. Airbnb hosts doesn't really offer decent prices online for long term stays. So better to contact them directly as they can save a lot of money from Airbnb fees if you book direct through the owner.
  20. I buy this stuff it's 1200 thb for 100 grams. Just a local thai strain called "green crack" I believe. Much more cost effective than spending like 40k a month on top shelf stuff in the shops. I will continue smoking this cheap stuff waiting for reasonable prices for high end weed. If someone interested PM me and I can give the seller line.
  21. I arrived in BKK a few days ago after the first time in 2 years. My go to cigarettes have always been winston green however this time it's proving difficult. I have tried about 20 different 7/11s. They sell the normal size packs of blue, but not green. Every single one has only had the compact version of greens. are the normal sized packs not sold here anymore since my last visit? If so is there an alternative bran, similar price point that sells normal size cigs that are menthol . Just the compact ones make me want to smoke 2 at a time unlike the regular pack I got before here, just not big enough whilst I appreciate it to help cut people down. There will be another day for that in my life, just not today apologies if wrong forum, didn't think it was appropriate posting with the giving up smoking subforum. Thanks.
  22. That's what happens when you get idiots incharge who think a tax cut is a great way to solve the recession. Especially when the dollar is already so strong. Let's see what the governments next brilliant idea is.
