So he wasn't self-insuring initially and circumstances beyond his control, apparently, put him in that situation.   That doesn't make him a self-insurer, it makes him someone who's insurer refused to renew his cover.  A self-insurer is someone who deliberately chooses not to take out insurance because he has the funds to pay for any future medical situations.

He had insurance which ran out and he could not reinsure. He decided to remain in Thailand due to worries about covid in UK. Many people managed to return to their own countries during the pandemic. He chose to stay and effectively self insure. Choices have consequences.

i got a single entry non-imm-o from London when I produced evidence that I was

in receipt of my OAP, I was not offered any multi-entry non-imm-o's or any multi-entry Tourist visa as it appears they have phased them out.

I applied in Liverpool and it took about five days.

I received a multiple entry  non Imm O based on receiving state pension from Thai Embassy London earlier this year as that was what I applied for. If you applied for a single entry why should they offer you a multiple entry?

  3. A few years ago I was on a TV which expired on the day I checked in for a flight just after midnight. The desk officer refused to stamp me out and I was escorted to the office "for overstay" . In the office another officer just looked at my passport and quickly stamped me out. I guess it's how the immigration officer feels that day.
