  1. Recently used e-packet to send a motorcycle sprocket from Thailand to UK.... just under 1 kg, cost 865 bht, delivered in about 14 days. Royal Mail Tracking picks it up eventually, and you get photo confirmation of delivery on their website. Can't comment for delivery to other countries. Prices charged in 100 gr increments, and max of 2kg to most destinations (except UK which is 5kg) Official prices & conditions attached. Thai Post e-packet.pdf
  2. I know the thread a bit old, but we got a house with new D&W windows installed, but no insect screens. I see the channels are there to accept the screens, and I'm looking for the elusive D&W showroom in Chiang Mai. Have emailed the Co in BKK, with no reply yet. Left phone no with a couple of other local companies who custom make screens, but I guess they are all still sat around a table drawing lots as to who is call the dreaded farang ! So has anyone in CM managed to find these specific D&W screens available for purchase up here ?
  3. I park mine in a Krungsri Mai Te Dai account... OK, only 0.9% interest, which is taxed, but it comes with a bank book, and because every month there is an automated Interest entry, Chiang Mai Immigration don't need a statement, just the book, & a letter confirming current balance when I apply for the extension. You can withdraw at any time, so if the proverbial hit the fan for any reason (medical etc), you can use it and replenish later, which I guess is not true of a Fixed Bond.
  4. Fact - was in similar situation. Wanted to take GF for a 2 week motorcycle tour last May, during our 6 month UK visit. (She has 10 year UK tourist visa now) We live in Chiang Mai so applied at VFS there in February, on the basis the "most nights would be spent in Germany" (and it wud save a trip to BKK for the application ????). Had to make a Booking.com reservation for first 2 nights in Germany which we subsequently cancelled. Also had travel insurance in place for the entire visit. For German Schengen applications you now fill out an online form (I made a mistake and hand filled out a PDF I downloaded, so had to do the electronic one on my mobile in VFS office. Fair does, they were relatively helpful here in waiting, then printing off for me). Oh make sure your girls name is on the hotel booking too. Didn't ask for tour details / ferry bookings etc, or anything else. 2 weeks later, we got the Visa, multiple entry but for just 6 weeks .... maybe as it was her first application. Tour completed with no hassles at either the Tunnel out, or the ferry back.
  5. Chiang Mai Immigration certainly requires one if you have left the Country (for a Retirement extension) and will be happy to fine you if not. The rules changed a little about 3 years ago whereby leaving the province did not require a new TM30 on return. I agree with Dr Jack in that all offices are different, but my best advice is to do one anyway after leaving the Country irrespective of having a re-entry permit or not. You will almost certainly be asked for a copy when doing any visa extension/renewal.
  6. Can only add to the growing history .... 2 months ago ... one eye done, Zeiss trifocal lens (best all rounder & no need for glasses), in and out in 3 hours, local, not general anaesthetic.... Chiang Mai Sriphat hospital. 76,000 thb. Totally painless, if not daunting... results perhaps not as good as I was hoping for, but much better than previous. Still, it is early days.
  7. As with others, I'm O neg (the universal donor), and based in Chiang Mai. ... you don't say where your wife is. Quite willing to give you a pint, but the "authorities" would have to bend the rules, as at 63, the Red Cross no longer wants it.
