  1. Travel was as follows.

Kids travelled Australia to BKK on their Australian Passports

    Stayed in LOS several weeks

Travelled BKK to HKG on Australian Passports

    Stay 1 week

    Depart HKG on Australian Passports

Arrive BKK and at that point the kids were refused entry on their Thai passports

Immigration officer said we could use their Australian Passports, but not their Thai.

His manner to me suggested that it was more about his power than anything.

He refused to talk to me and would only speak to my wife who responded with thai subservience to Authority and a few Ka,s

They knew we had been using another passport as the kids Thai passports were new, with no stamps.

  2. Hi, just need to see if I am missing something here..

The family have just returned to oz after a holiday on Thailand.

I travel on an Australian passport only, my wife has a Thai passport only and the kids hold both passports.

We were returning to Thailand from Hong Kong and I decided to give the kids thai passports some use.

we came to immigration and the officer refused the kids entry on their Thai passports and insisted that they use their Australian passports as this was the passports they had used to exit Australia.

i was tired and keen to argue the point that as Thai citizens that should be allowed to use their Thai passports.

my wife backed down and the immigration officer refused to speak to me. My wife spoke nicely to him even though he was a prick.

i was going to tear up the Thai passports and chuck them on the floor but my wife held on to them.

    Am I missing something?

is there a reason we cannot use their Thai passports in some circumstances when entering Thailand?

If he was right then we can not ever use their Thai passports( or was he just on a power trip?)

  3. Hi All, Hoping for some advice on best way to proceed with this one.

I am in Australia with my wife and kids.

We are hoping to get my wife's Niece out here for a holiday soon.

She is 12 years old, Thai Mom, British Dad, and lived in Thailand all her life.

Her birth was registered at the UK embassy but she has no UK passport, but does have a Thai passport.

Long story, but her dad is not currently in possession of a valid visa, and has not been for a while now. He is in LOS but on long overstay.

Great guy but has made some poor decisions in the past, leaving him stuck now.

In order to get a UK passport for his daughter he will need to front up to the embassy, and basically is scared of the consequences due to his visa situation.

To get her to visit us in OZ it is much easier to get her here on a UK passport, and it also opens up a world of opportunity for her in the future.

I am aware of the obvious things like him needing to "man up" and not overstay, but am looking for advice on how to help his daughter who is caught up in this.

She is a great kid, and it is much easier for us to get her out to OZ to visit on a UK passport.

Any one who has come across this scenario or who has any valid and positive thoughts on this one, i welcome your input.

  4. Hi,

I will be back in Thailand for 1 month in June/July this year with wife + 3 kids.

Looking to rent a car while we are there for approx 3 weeks.

Does anyone know of someone who rents cars in Bangkok (full size sedan or SUV), new(ish) reliable cars with insurance.

Have looked at Avis, Budget and Thai Car Rent but all fairly expensive...

I had a guy that we used to rent from but cannot get in contact with him any more.

    Any assistance is appreciated.

    Cheers

  5. From what you have said, the money is not staying with the in Laws, it is just for show.

My suggestion would be to pick yourself up 10 nice shiny new £50 notes in UK.

Take them to a printer in Bangkok and get them copied 20 times each.

Take them to the village. have show and tell.

Any dishonest relatives that try to pocket one will get what they deserve if caught.

Do not try to spend them...

When you are ready to leave the village, burn the money.

Tell them you have plenty more back in UK, and cant be bothered carrying it.

  6. Hi All,

A quick summary of our situation.

My wife an i live in Australia, and have had my Mother In Law staying with us for the past few months. She is due to go back to Thailand in several weeks.

    She has Type 2 Diabetes.

From what i can see and understand, she has very little understanding of what Diabetes is and how she can help it with her diet.

She has been given tablets which she takes daily to help her with her sugar levels.

We have been monitoring her sugar levels while she has been here, and while i an not a doctor, i do feel that her levels are too high.

She is not overweight, and is well and works hard, so it is easier to deal with it while it is like that.

What we are looking for is a hospital/clinic in Bangkok where we can make an appointment for her when she gets back so that she can get properly checked out and get the correct medication.

Hopefully she will even get some education as to what diabetes is and what it does to you. She speaks no English, so sending her to see someone in Australia would be useless.

She Lives in Issan, and i do not feel the local clinic is providing the level of care that one might expect.

Can anyone recommend a Diabetes Clinic or Hospital where we can get her to go when she gets back.

Cost is not an issue as we will be paying for it for her.

I just want her to get the level of care that she deserves.

    Thanks

  7. Hi Pat,

If you do want to sell the land, try not taking the piss out of people who ask questions about it.

What sort of land is it is a valid question.

Is it a rocky outcrop on a hillside, only good for raring goats?

    Is it a rice paddy?

Is it in the middle of a village or 10 miles from the nearest town.

What sort of title do you have on the land?

Link to a Google map showing land and location would be handy.

Give us some information including a price and someone may be interested.

Telling us we cannot afford it we have to ask the price is not very intelligent.

  8. The boy must get an Australian Passport.

If he tries to travel to Australia on a Thai passport he will need to get a Visa.

A person who is an Australian Citizen (the child) is not eligible for any Australian Visa.

He will therefore be told by the embassy if he applies for a Visa, that he cannot get one.

If the father tries to hide the sons Aussie Citizenship, it will be pretty difficult to explain why they are going to Australia.

  9. Hua Hin to Phuket is a comfortable days drive. About 7-8 Hours depending on traffic, how many stops you make and how fast you are driving.

    About 650km from memory.

I usually went Hua Hin to Prachuap and down to Surat Thani, (route 41)

Then take route 401 to route 415 and follow the signs to Phuket.

You can go down to route 44 from Nong Sai.

It is about the same time wise as the previous route, a bit further, but a much better road.

Not a lot to see on the way.

  10. Hi All,

I am sure that we are not the first to cross this particular bridge, and not sure of the best way to do it.

My Thai Mother in Law will be coming out to Australia soon for a Visit.

She has been on a plane only once and has never traveled internationally.

She does not speak any English.

We are concerned that she will not know what to do and get over anxious with the flight and customs/immigration.

We are contemplating someone flying up to Bangkok to get her and flying back with her.

This does add to the expense of the exercise though.

Does anyone know if the Airlines have an unaccompanied Mother In Law program, similar to a unaccompanied minors program.

Get her to the flight after check in, onto the flight, off the flight in Brisbane and through Customs and Immigration.

Or is anyone coming BKk to Bne late Feb 2011?

  11. She will have 12 months from the Visa issue date to enter the country.

The first entry date you state is January 2010.

This will be the Visa issue date.

Entry is valid for 12 months from this, so final entry date will be January 2011. She can then stay 3 months from the date of last entry.

So she should be OK to stay until April 2011.

  12. Hi,

If you read a lot of the posts here concerning spouse visa applications it will give you a good guide as to what is required.

A police check and medical will be required, so you might as well do these and get the out of the way. A lot of the other documentation that people submit goes to proof of an ongoing relationship. That is where a heap of pictures of things done together and proof of being together comes in handy. Stamps in your passport to show the time you have been in Thailand will also be handy.

My wife did her interview over the phone as we were living in Phuket when we applied. It will depend on your wifes application and her case officer as to what they require.

    Good luck

  13. Hi Level Head,

You state that "It has been reported that some death certificates have been filled in incorrectly"

    Where has this been reported?

Do you have a link to the original story?

Also stating that cutting off peoples internet access is an infringement of basic human rights, may be a bit of a stretch.

The red shirts were gathered illegally, and the response that they got was a long time coming.

In any other country on earth they would have been moved on with force after hours, not weeks.

  14. Hi,

I did this several years ago, and was in the same situation as you are.

NZ Embassy in sydney did eventually grant the visa, but made it clear that they would not do so again, as they felt we were only going to NZ to use it as a "Visa run"

We were sent a letter with the Visa stating that my wife would not be granted any further NZ Visas while she was in OZ on a tourist Visa.

No sure if they were just having a bad day, or if they are generally like this.

Keep in mind that your wife can enter Vanuatu and get a Visa on Entry, no application required.

    Good Luck.

  15. Have the same problems, yesterday 30/3 and today 31/3 Thai Visa can be viewed with dificulty a lot of info is blanked out or has an "X".

There does not appear to be any formatting to the page. It just appears as a white screen with writing and a lot of error messages, like these:

The requested URL /promotions/banners/marketing/leaderboard.html was not found on this server.

Running firefox 3.6.2, no problems with any other websites, just Thaivisa.

Have emptied cache and reloaded page a heap of times with no improvement.
