I just came back through Mukdahan Immigration with my new Non O visa based on marriage  two weeks ago and got pulled to the side by immigration asking me to wright my email, address in Thailand and sign my name on a piece of paper and wanting to see  copy of my my wife's ID card which I did not have, I showed him my original marriage certificate and my childs birth certificate which he took photocopies  and then stamped my passport for 90 days and let me enter Thailand.

    Wow. That's strange.

I assume you just picked up your new visa shortly before you came from Savannakhet to Mukdahan.

So asking for papers that you needed to get the visa in the first place sounds like a very strange requirement from immigration.

Maybe I should better fly then. Let's see

  2. I have a Non O Multiple Entry based on being married.

Got the current one 2,5 months ago in Savannakhet.

Next week I will be in the Mukdahan area again and so it could make sense to go into Laos and come back to Mukdahan to activate my next entry.

Have there been any news about problems doing that in Mukdahan?

I could stay in Savannakhet for the day or even for 1 night.

I am asking because I got some "problems" last year walking back into Thailand after just spending some minutes in Poi Pet (also on Non O Multiple Entry) and because of the news / reports coming from people who got problems at various border places (land/air).

  3. I am ususally quite happy with the Non O Multiple Entry too.

But nowadays even with this kind of visa I can feel things starting to tighten up.

I had these problems myself at Poi Pet some months ago. Was told not to come back there.

Usually I make a small holiday trip by plane at the end of the three months. So Poi Pet was a last minute trip that I usually wouldn't do.

Nevertheless ... even this kind of visa now has kind of lost its "easy and safe" reputation.

So going for an extension is obviously the way the government wants it.

  4. I am trying to figure out how a Non Immigrant O multiple entry Visa based on marriage, a work permit and a 1-year extension "play together".

If I have a Non Immigrant O multiple entry and want to start working for a Thai company how will be the process?

    - The Thai company provides all the paperwork required to obtain a work permit?

    - I have to go to the Ministry of Labor and apply for a Work Permit?

    - The Work Permit will be granted?

    - I go to Chaeng Wattana and apply for a 1-year extension of stay?

    Is that roughly the process?

Can I do that with a non immigrant O multiple entry?

Or do I have to leave the country again to get e.g. an Non B?

Or if I stayed on the Non O multiple entry I won't get a 1-year extension but rather have to leave the country every three months (regardless of having the work permit)?

If getting a 1-year extension are there any other prerequisites other than having a work permit?

  5. Thank you ubonjoe and elviajero.

And sorry for bringing up a new date just now.

Wife is giving me a hard time and asked me 10 minutes ago "why don't we change plans and go before Songkran". ;-)

But that would mean that I would go to the Thai Consulate in Savannakhet on April 10 already (pickup visa on April 11).

So ... current stamp valid until May 11, Enter Before May 25 and application for new visa on April 10 ?!?!

    What do you think?

I really don't want to make the trip into Laos for "nothing" ;-)

  6. Sorry to revive this topic but my last question got no answers and i am about to fix my plans.

I have family 100km near Mukdahan and I will be in that area either around April 24 or May 2.

My current stamp is valid until May 11 and the Enter Before date in my Non Immigrant O multiple entry is May 25.

So I know I could extend my stay in Thailand with my current visa until August but I will be in Isaan anyway around the dates stated above.

And since I will likely switch to a 1-year extension at the end of the year or beginning of  next year I don't mind getting a new Non O multiple entry in Savannakhet "early".

Could I go to Savannakhet and get an new visa on the dates stated above? Ubonjoe said something about as early as a couple of weeks before. Is there any rule to that? How many weeks are that? Should I contact Savannakhet by phone? I just don't want to drive the 100km to Mukdahan, buy a Lao visa and then get denied for being too early ;-)

  7. Thank you for your replies.
Yes I know I could use my current Non O until August or even 2 months longer.

But if I wanted to go to Savannakhet early are there specific laws / rules about how early I can go to get a new visa?

    ...

If you want to renew your visa before it expires you could do it as early as a couple weeks up to the last day.

    ...

"Up to the last day" means "up to the enter before date"? And how many weeks are a couple of weeks? Please don't get me wrong ... I am just trying to find out if there are specific laws about this since I don't want to travel to Savannakhet and being turned away over there for coming "too early" ;-)

    • There is little point in applying for a new visa when the existing one is still valid, but if you do the existing visa will be cancelled when they issue the new one.
    • ...

That would mean that I could go to Savannakhet any day (even tomorrow) and get a new visa and at the same time the current still valid one is being made void?

Thanks again and sorry for being a little bit "pedantic" on this issue. Just don't want to travel there for "nothing" ;-)

  8. My current Non Immigrant O Multiple Entry Visa based on marriage issued in Savannakhet has an "Enter Before" date in May 2017.

    - What is the earliest date that I can go to Savannakhet again and apply for another / a new Non O Multiple Entry?

    - Before the current visa I had another Non O Multiple Entry issued in Europe. Same passport. Have there ever been reports of people getting problems on "back to back" Non O in Savannakhet and/or even with another Non O from Europe before?

    - If going to Savannakhet do we have to fly now? I am asking since there have been reports from land borders (namely Aranyaprathet) where immigration gave a hard time because of "hopping" over the border and coming back on land border

  9. I have seen a post here which is only about 1 month old stating that Phu Nam Ron is working for people who want to activate another entry on their Non O Multiple Entry.

But with the reports going on about Poi Pet I thought it might be wise to ask for the lastest information again:

I have a Multiple Entry Non Immigrant O Visa based on marriage.

Usually I fly somewhere for a short holiday and come back via an airport.

This time I thought about renting a car and driving to Phu Nam Ron.

Can I still just go in and out to get another 3 months?

What time should I be there?

Is Poi Pet (don't really like it) a viable Plan B?

    Thanks a lot

  10. Thanks a lot for ur answers.

@champken: actually never thought about going from Ubon to Mukdahan in the morning. Sounded risky to me since I have to be at the Thai consulate before 11am and from many trips to Ubon in the last two years I always remember the traffic jam on the main road. Ubon is a busy city now ;-) But maybe you are right. Should work if you leave at 6am.

Anyway, I booked a flight with Nok Air including the service to Mukdahan as ubonjoe proposed. I guess I am on the safe side with that.

  11. In a previous post I was asking about a 2-month extension based on marriage at CW.

But plans changed again and we will go to Savannakhet.

Therefore I have the following questions:

    - If I take a flight to Ubon in the evening and arrive at Ubon at 8pm will there be buses going to Mukdahan? How long is the bus service operating and what time in the morning is the first bus going?

    - If I arrive in Mukdahan in the evening and stay in a guesthouse/hotel near the bus station I suppose I have enough time getting to the Thai consulate the next day before 11am if I take the first bus in the morning from Mukdahan bus station to and across the bridge?

    Thank you very much

  12. Sorry to revive this topic again.

But I am in the process of planning and I have two more questions directly connected with my last post.

    1. Could I also just leave Thailand at a land border at the end of May and come back directly? How many days would I get then (German passport)? And before these days are over could I then make the trip to Savannakhet to get a new Non O Multiple Entry based on marriage?

    2. Could I also get a 30-day-extension at Chaengwattana because I might only need 30 days before I go to Savannakhet. And then again before these 30 days are up could I go to Savannakhet and get my new mentioned visa?

Why not get the 60 day extension discussed before. It is the only extension you can get there is no 30 day extension.

You would get 30 days if you did a border hop.

    Just checking my options.

Looks like I don't need 60 days (30 days might be enough) and the two times in the last years that I have been to Chaengwattana with my wife to get a 2-months extension the immigration officials always gave me the feeling as if they had to think about giving me an extension or not. They weren't impolite in any way but both times they gave me the impression as if they were doing me/us a big favor by granting an extension. My wife felt the same. (And yes, we were well dressed and polite ;-) )

Furthermore we might be close to the Cambodian border end of May anyway.

  14. With all these holidays in May I am thinking about changing my plans and would like to ask you to confirm if my plan is possible.

I know I have asked a similiar question in a topic a couple of months back.

I just want to be sure.

The enter before date of my current Non Immigrant O Mutiple Entry Visa is beginning of March 2016.

At the end of February my wife and I went on a weekend trip outside Thailand so when I came back I got a new stamp (my last stamp) until the end of May.

During the validity of this visa I have been to Chaeng Wattana once and got an extension for visiting my wife for 2 months (not on my current entry of course, it was back in January 2016).

So now I am thinking in order to avoid going to Savannakhet in May with all these holidays ... couldn't I just go to Chaengwattana again and apply for another 2-month extension and then go to Laos in July?

    Any concerns about that?

As far as I understood this from your tipps and experiences here on the forum ... on every entry you get/make on a Non Immigrant O Multiple Entry you can apply for a 2 months extension for visting your wife (of course by taking your wife to Immigration with you)

  15. Thank you ubonjoe.

Looks like I was on a totally different website:

    http://www.thaisavannakhet.com/savannakhet/th/consulate/officehours/index.php?month=5&year=2016

They only state May 5 and May 13.

Is that an official website anyway? Looks like.

It is confusing at times ;-)

So on May 3 and May 4 the consulate is open.

Usually that should be enough to get a visa. Apply on May 3 and pick up on May 4.

Any concerns about going there right between all these holidays?

  16. I have to go to Savannakhet in May to get a Non O Multiple Entry.

Can anybody confirm that the consulate in Savannakhet is closed on the following days in May 2016:

    May 5

    May 13

What about May 2 and May 6?

I am just trying to get a confirmation to be on the safe side with my planning and because I am a little bit confused why e.g. Penang is - according to this link http://www.thaiembassy.org/penang/contents/files/news-20151217-102212-807415.pdf - closed on May 2 and May 20.

I understand Penang is not close to Savannakhet ;-) but one would expect at least similar holidays for Thai embassy / consulate staff.

  17. I live in Ratchada. So Lat Phrao doesn't sound that bad.

The last time I have been there to do visa stuff was during the shutdown of Chaengwattana.

Are you sure that they accept my 90 day reporting?

I thought Chaengwattana was the only option if you had to do it in person.

Positive...just did mine 2 weeks ago right there....

That sounds great. Good that you could go there and do your reporting.

Do you have any "special status" of any kind?

I am happy about your anwer but I am just asking again because I don't want to go there only to be rejected ... since the wonderful Bangkok immigration website states in the "Required documents" section:

"Immigration Service Center for 3 National Legalized Labors ( Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia) at Major Hollywood Suksawat or Imperial World Ladprao: Only special Labor of three Nationalities Loas , Cambodia and Mynmar residing in Bangkok."
