  1. I find myself feeling almost like a prisoner.

I rent a house, as I cannot buy one. Can’t and never stayed in a condo.

i like travelling in and out of Thailand. But the TM-30 makes my landlord, annoyed and frustrated as he is often busy with his own business affairs.

It is making me fearful of even thinking of going out of my house for a weekend in and out of the country, and afraid to even breach the subject with my landlord.

I truly hope the authority find a decent and practical solution.

I am a 69 years old retiree and not sure how much of a risk I represent to Thailand.

I would be even willing to wear a bracelet or something that constantly report my location. I am sure my cell phone does that already.

  2. I have been in Thailand for the last five years on a non-ed visa. I will soon reach the end of the last 1 year extension stamped on my passport.

I have managed to build a small house on a leased land from a trustworthy friend, and hope to retire there. I live alone, with no serious attachment to anybody. Though I would love to obtain a retirement visa, my age does not permit it yet, need 1Y 3M to reach 50.

For the investment visa the requirements of having 10M is fulfilled in the form of TDs, I have gradually moved my savings to Thailand over the last 5 years.

I am so confused with rules and regulation and I thought I would post my case hoping the knowledgeable and wise can advise me.

I heard and read about the the Elite Visa 500,000 for 5 five years. I am averse to having to pay that much just to obtain " a permission" to spend the rest of my life savings here. Reports of Laos and Vietnam are encouraging and if it is absolutely necessary I'm willing to make the move!

    My questions are:

1-can I change my non-ed to investment one in Changwattana Immigration?

2- I read and heard that I would have to have a non immigrant visa, does the non-ed count as one?

3- If I need to obtain a non-immigrant one where would be the best nearby country I could visit to obtain one and what are the requirements? Is it difficult?it would be based on what?

Apart from an investment visa, is there any option open to me?

  3. Back home, Carrefour used to sell a bottle of white liquid that did wonders to the surface of Ceramic Hob electric cooker/stove, does anyone know if the same can be found here under whatever brand name?

  4. I am subscribed to a VPN that does not support Router configuration.

I have an old MacBook 2008 that is sitting doing nothing. I was thinking what if I install Tomato vpn or the like on the macbook and hook the AirPort Extreme to it, where it would distribute the connection to all the home and devices.

    Does this sound realistic?

  5. I must admit, the iPhone 6/+ had given me such excitement - short of an erection.

But I think I will pass not because the iPhone 6s or +s will be better-future iterations are always better- but because I don't think Thailand, my present home, will make it useful for me.

By the time, Apple Pay becomes a reality and decent 4G coverage reach my city, it would be time to fork out for an iPhone 7 or even 8.

Mind you, that won't stop me from lusting after it!

  6. The first question you should ask yourself is how many print per week/day u need.

If you need prints on a daily basis, consider an inkjet printer, got a canon all in one (discontinued ) model for under ฿3000 from officemate .if you don't mind occasional mess fix an external tank set and your cost per print is drammatically refuced.

Steer clear of fixing an external ink supply system if you do not print that often. They tend to dry up and clog the printhead and generally bugger the printer if you do not print at least 3-4 times per week.

If you do not print that often, you might like to consider a Laser printer for a longer shelflife more consistent results but higher toner price but safer in the longer run.

Consider Brother, better quality than HP, in my experience, or Epson the best among consumer printers, again in my opinion.

Finally, when you decide on the model make sure you buy from an established shop, eg Officemate, tesco, powerbuy etc.

Shops that offer few bahts discount in Computer Malls tend to move or close down quite often.

    My 2 cents :)

  7. Does anyone of sites that accept emails without registration and start bombarding them with spam and junk mail?

The reason why I am soliciting such sites is that I have decided to return the favour to all those emails adresses that crowd my inbox without being invited.

So every time a spam mail comes I will refer the sender to spam sites and hope they enjoy being at the receiving end as much as the sending end!
