    ETh is better imo

yo, with the incoming ~$100 transaction fee's. Couple days was gonna buy something on the ETH network and they wanted $40 gas fee and $10 for spending limit. I get why Eth was so popular at the beginning, after Bitcoin, but with whats available on the market for several years now I *never* understood why this is still a top tier chain. Requiring Layer 2's is kind of a sign the layer 1 is not that great.

Not sure what it will do but kicking myself for not buying a Bitcoin at 13,xxx .  A total loss wouldn't hurt but  if it really pops someday I would be a part of it.

My concern is it takes to much energy to maintain, to few transactions available, plus it has zero intrinsic value.  Good luck for those in it.  Musical chairs

too much energy to maintain....with all due respect, did you actually kind of look into this or just hear it from all different angles of "how much energy it uses". Yes, it uses a lot of energy ( relatively ), but A LOT is solar energy. Also, compare the energy use of Bitcoin to the energy use of Fiat money. You'll be surprised and also realized you've been lied to.

You're kidding me! I literally was floating this exact idea around with friends last week.

I'm half Thai-American, so you can imagine how I'm always the go-to guy among my expat friends. But like you said, making it possible is a bit overwhelming.

    - It would require an app that can charge you by the minute when you call in

    - It would need a team of operators on stand-by at all times

Not sure if there is going to be enough demand to pay for building the app and managing the team.

I also was thinking of a virtual assistant service, where the client just submit various tasks and we bill by the hour. Less costly business to maintain.

    Would welcome any feedback. Thanks

I dont think ( and as of now ) wouldnt recommend an app. Developing a good and functional app itself is a lot of work. Then you need 2 sorry 3 different versions ( iOS, Android, Huawei ). Where as Huawei is basically the same as Android, but requires another account and just an extra platform to monitor.

I would first look what you need the app to do, and then see if there is an app with a whitelabel option and just pay a monthly or yearly fee to use it ( with research though...you don't want to base your business model on another business...if they go broke or increase the fee's, you would be "screwed" ).

Do you really need to charge by the minute? Maybe a monthly subscription with x free translations. and after that a "per request" fee. Similar with ATMs. You have x free withdrawels per month. After that limit is reached, you have x $ fee per transaction / withdrawel

The problem will probably lie within Live customer support reps. While their are many that speak good english, what will happen when a scottsman calls for service? ( with all due respect to Scotsman and their language, but I even have difficulty understanding them ). There are just so many different englisch accents. Then the foreigner becomes angry that the support doesnt understand them and starts yelling / getting angry.

Maybe focus on "instant" document and / or chat translations. A "per word" translation fee possibly.

Don't hire staff. Do it similar to the online English teaching teachers. They signup on a platform. Their documents are verified ( ability to translate should be verified ) and they get a schedule or choose a schedule. PAy them a percent of the per word translation.

These are just ideas and not thoroughly thought through, but maybe something to work with.

Google has an option to search for pictures.

an example...does it really need to be bullet proof that nobody else will come with "haha, have you not heard of google? have you been living behind a rock?" I can can up with cases where google translate, google pictures, the gf/wife are just not sufficient for translating. that is why I wish for a service that could handle this better...but I also understand the difficulty of doing this kind of service.

anyone's wife / girlfriend using these services to sell her own food from their own restaurant?

if so - are you allowed to list the food items at a higher price than they are sold for in the restaurant, so as to somewhat cover the delivery fees?

my girlfriend wants to join up, but her profit margins are so small at the minute, that she would lose money if food panda / grab etc took in the region of 30%

From experience in Ubon, it may be different in Huahin or may be different from sales rep to sales rep:

Grab starts in cities with 20%. Once they have a good selection they bump it up to 30% and recently increased to 35%. However, a couple days announced they will lower to 30% until the end of the year....wow, thank you so so much...

They do allow markup on your menu. With Grab you will need an Android phone with wifi or data to install the merchant app and receive orders.

Foodpanda is at 30% and allow markup too, but it needs to be on the "down low". You dont tell them that you marked up, they wont ask. They do want to see a picture of your menu though. Just print a new one with the delivery prices and send it to them. Foodpanda will provide you with a device to receive the orders and print them out if you want. From initial meeting / contract signing to being live was about 2-3 weeks. However, this was shortly before the Covid crisis.

  6. I wonder if it is even if it just a simple border run?

Reason I ask, I am on a Marriage Visa ( german passport ) and will need to do a quick border run ( out and back in within an hour )....probably at the ChongMek border. My border run isn't due until ~April 20th....by then I am pretty sure the borders will be all "closed". Question is how extreme are they closed? Do they not issue visa on arrivals anymore? Do they not stamp ANYBODY? IF that is the case, would the immigration in Ubon make an exception and stamp a "border run" or extend it another 90 days?

Why not do the same thing but use LG top loading washing machines with a coin box on the side? In Bangkok, a new LG 10kg machine costs 12,500 baht delivered and installed including the coinbox (you need to supply the water supply and waste supply).

You get a warranty for the motor and parts are readily available. No franchise costs, no expensive parts to replace and no huge investment. These machines can also be sold on the second hand market when you want to dispose of them due to upgrades, etc.

That would be my preferred choice.

In theory, I would agree with you, but in praxis that is a setup for failure...or at least high risk of failure.

"simple" example. Coffee shops. Could you honestly name me 1 or 2 family owned, 1-store coffee shops that has been around for more than 1 or 2 years?....and preferably successful.

I could name a few seemingly successful and semi successful coffee franchises....Amazon, Starbucks, Doi Chaang, Dao Coffee. Why is a franchise obviously so much more successful than single fmily owned shops? The most simple reason(s) is a good marketing DEPARTMENT and professionally designed outlets. Just the marketing alone, mom and pop shops generally cannot compete with.

So I think a laundry franchise would do better than non-franchise laundry franchise. Even if your service is slightly better and a few baht cheaper. The marketing department will take that advantage away in no time.

  8. Option 2 and 3 are almost the same. And option 1 is not reeeeally feasable like you said if you want to keep family relations intact.

Instead of starting up a business for her, which will eventually be run into ground and everybody else blamed except herself, go with option 3 and buy a small business. Dont go with a random "no-name" business, but look into a franchise. Franchises generally are successful, they do lot of the marketing for you and hold you by the hand to a certain extend. She could do well with that and everybody is happy. She may fail, but she cant blame you or the franchise for it.

Question is what kind of franchise that also meets the budget. Reading your post and me thinking of franchise, reminded me of this thread last month:
    https://forum.thaivisa.com/topic/1141531-laundromat-automatic-washing-machines-coins-operated-laundry-in-thailand-just-a-trend-or-profitable-business/

I know of 1 franchise that does this ( otteri wash & dry ). As mentioned in that thread, I think it can work. However, I dont know what the intial buy-in and setup fees are.

Another idea would be a small franchise coffee shop, an up and coming one that has potential to do well. Those may be within the budget.

    Hope that helped. Good luck

  9. It has been a hit or miss for me at times connecting my iphone ( 6s ) to my macbook pro. Lately it has been working ok ( maybe since Catalina? ). What has helped when I couldnt connect ( transferring photos ), was killing the photo app on my iphone and opening the app again and then it would find my macbook. ( obviously I am assuming you made sure Bluetooth is turned on on your mac and a connection has been established ).
