  1. I think the technically you can own land .... the foreign cemetery in chiang mai where you can buy your burial plot!
  2. Will be interesting what immigration will make of his ideas .. as he will not be contributing to the English economy and presumably not paying national insurance and tax I suspect he will not be expecting any of the benefits from the NHS housing benefits credits etc .... A bout of dengue and a hospital stay will soon see the GP fund me pages starting ..... Such is life
  3. The 45 days visa waiver made the country more attractive to me to travel . But was withdrawn . Maybe a reconsideration would be advantageous ?
  4. In Chiang Mai it is PEA who supply the electricity. If you do not pay them they can disconnect. HOWEVER you need to check if you have meter for PEA or the condo . If the condo and unpaid they can turn the electricity off. I previously owned 3 units in CM and had the meters changed to PEA as it was cheaper per unit than what the condo charged. Hope that helps .
  5. Actually I am travelling on insurance that has a maximum stay away which expires on 27th of this month when I leave Thailand for another sldestination . I then have a Thai travel insurance that kicks in for the next 120 days. ... I even if you have insurance you can get caught out. There are companies that insure under 65 even though the journey has commenced. I am over that age.
  6. Funnily enough I sold a condo earlier this year and went to CIMB to repatriate the funds to the UK . All paper trails from how I got the money, moved it to Thailand bought the condo sold it paid the tax and wanted to send money back . About 18 years between bringing and returning .Interesting the original documents mentioned issuing a Tor tor 3. It raised an eyebrow as it was an ORIGINAL transfer document rather than a bank book that nowadays says FET. When they finally understood funds were sent yesterday late afternoon and was in my UK bank at 11pm the same night . Full marks to CIMB and the rate was not bad .( Yes it was more than baht 1 m )
  7. Yes visa free or waivers are great . I used to have a retirement visa but thought spending the money travelling was a better idea after COVID and reduced my property portfolio to just a small condo now . I only visit thailand on a visa waiver. The change back from 45 days with 30 day extension to 30 +30 was a bad move. Perhaps I could be spending the cost of my return flights to Penang,3 nights hotel ,can fares food and general expenses boosting Thailand by a small amount ... but for that simple change .... Oh well back in a few days until Christmas then onwards ....... Bring back 45 or even to 60 + extension. ( I get 90 days without an eyebrow raised in Malaysia ....)
  8. Hello sorry for the delay in replying . I thought the op wife was not Thai ? . My wife was Malaysian but got a British passport 45 years and did her NHS service. To get a visa without complications we opted for baht 800000 each yep baht 1.6 m . However now we don't bother and spend less time in Thailand and due the visa waiver .. .. Good choice after many years ...
  9. So I went on the white or his last night 4 people . Buffet . It was a cheap cruise at £15 a head .. boat a bit date entertainment . Seen better . Unlimited beer in small glasses. Next time I will pay a bit more and get a better cruise . But note I said next time .. I enjoyed it .. had my value in prawns alone!
  10. One should be aware of difficulties if the partner holding the visa dies. There have been incidents of problems with immigration. a few years ago that I know genuinely happened that the dependents visa became void and the spouse had to leave the country and return on a tourist visa waiver immediately. ( It was in chiang Mai )
  11. Take a look at what Vivo bene offers in Chiang Mai .. certainly an option v UK care homes... Good luck with sorting this out ...
  12. Only the first £12570 lower tax threshold is tax free . If your income including your pension exceeds that you will pay tax . I have been paying tax on my investments and with the pension HMRC quickly increased my tax payment and gave me an X code grrr.
  13. Depends where you are in sannameng and wonderful maps system. Grab and lineman usually works fine especially from local restaurants.. like Baan suan panwa or KiatJust near the municipality. KFC MC Donald's and pizza hut also seem to deliver .. at least to local residents in siriporn . Many of the maps are out dated and if for example you live in siriporn garden homes (9) Google will often take the driver into palm gardens so that is very frustrating . Or through the back gate that does not exist any longer. Try visiting some of the local places and telling them you address and they can help direct the delivery guys .. hope that helps a little
  14. In the USA eggs are washed and the cuticle is removed replacing with oil or shellac type sealant is used in Europe to sell fresh eggs you cannot wash them as class a for resale the egg has a natural cuticle seal keep points dow as you say and if you refrigerate that will extend the shelf life considerably. Do not try breaking the eggs and freezing them as liquid . Eggs are a natural item you should easily obtain another 2 to 3 weeks . ( In industrial conditions you can get more) yes I am an eggspert LOL
  15. Standard Chartered one of the big international banks had a subsidiary company here .. and they sold their retail business to Tisco ( yes who!) they did not even have a swift code. So from a big international bank who really dumped me . You think the International banks are any better.. try returning money for condos sold etc. now. Real pain . CIMB Thai works quite well for me. Good luck.
  16. Yet another great incentive not to encourage tourists to come to Thailand.. billionaire needs to donate more perhaps .. ..
  17. Yes it is possible .I have done it to my tenants band it proved useful when one left and the other struggled with the rent. It was settled amicably. I ensure the deposit was kept as a single one and not split therefore when one left they did not receive a refund of half . But it is all down to the landlord.
  18. You may want to find a friend coming to the UK to take them before 30th. September..or follow the advice from the Bank of England : What to do with paper notes after 30 September Once the 30 September 2022 deadline has passed, you will no longer be able to use Bank of England paper notes in shops, or use them to pay businesses. After this date, many UK banks will accept withdrawn notes as deposits from customers. Some Post Offices may also accept withdrawn notes as a deposit into any bank account you can access with them. The Bank of England will always exchange any withdrawn notes, including paper notes we have withdrawn in the past.
  19. Thanks ubonjoe. I will be arriving from the UK on waiver with a confirmed return ticket just after 3 months and a pre booked Air Asia confirmed flight to Malaysia to see family on day 29. Stay 11 days then return. I will have 59 days before my main uk return ticket. if I enter on a waiver I do have a return ticket but not within the lifetime of that waiver . I intend to get an extension to cover. But will the airline / immigration accept this ?.. that is why I am looking to cover me .. or will that be acceptable ? To be honest I have never been asked in my many years of travel to produce proof of exit or funds .But new passport no stamps so no records and until covid was a visa based on retirement.. for several years after Multientry stopped from Hull. Thanks as always ..
  20. Precovid I was on a visa " based on retirement" . Now expired I will be coming back on visa waiver and looking at 30 day + extension. I checked LON Royal Thai Embassy and got this : Proof of onward travel (confirmed air, train, bus or boat tickets) to leave Thailand within 30 days of the arrival date (**otherwise a tourist visa must be obtained). My intention is to have a ticket from the Pedang Besar immigration at the railway station to Ipoh . Cost c.£9 just incase I am asked. ( I may actually leave by car but that is another can of worms) DrJack54 please can you help in providing a link where it states flights only please . Thanks
