  1. For what it is worth to you, I am not a british citize, but swedish!!! I just got my new passport lastweek ,and my

embassy ALWAYS enclose a letter addressed to the immigration, where they kindly ask the immigration to transfer

    the stamps involved..

Maybe this is a polite thing to do, and you lack that polite document.... I dont know just wanted to be helpful,

and tell you about my situation.....

The UK authorities do not enclose such a document when they send new passports. The Swedish government would seem to take its responsibilities towards its citizens seriously. The solution you cite is one of a number that I had determined to include in my letter. Thanks for your helpful comment.

Hi, I am a UK citizen and although i have never had the need to do this, i havre always found UK Thai consulate to be helpful. I think an email to them requesting a letter meeting your requirements might help before alienating the Thai authorities by kicking up a fuss. You know the score here (or maybe you don't) but generally the harder you play, the harder they play back. Just try and keep it simple mate and try not to cause yourself any trouble. Last thing you want is somebody deciding to put a black mark on your immigration file for Thailand and it could very easily happen if you alienate them......or it could cost you a lot of money.

Think wisely my friend and contact the place in UK where you got the passport from.

    Good luck.

  2. I was able to get a 1year multi in Penang Malaysia a year and a half ago with the proper papers. But if you have all the required documents better to do it in the US. Consulates in neighboring countries tend to be hit or miss. You will have a better chance of getting a MULTI in the US.

I agree totally with this - it's like they want to be difficult wherever you go and there is always the fear that if it goes wrong, then there is an issue of getting back in.

Play it safe, get it from your own country where at least you have the time on your side and can deal with mostly rational people. KL people are difficult and miserable, SG i just had a nightmare because i did not have my return flight booked......i was staying with a friend and we had decided to do some project work together so not knowing how long it would take i didn't book the flight. Does it not stand to reason that if i am applying for a 1 year business visa in SG, i have a company of 7 years in Thailand and i have just spent 1000's getting all my paperwork, tax and social security up to date with lawyers and accountants that i would be going back to Thailand (where i live) and carry on my business.

Like i said, play it safe and do it in your own country because it can drive you insane doing it in neighbouring countries.

    Cheers,

  3. How do I get rid of gecko's,???? There are supposed to bring good luck but I only get gecko poop all over everything in the house! Just too many of those creatures. Thanks

you have to seal all of the entrances to your house.......but draft excluders on bottoms of doors, silicone/filler holes in walls etc, basically anywhere where they can get in.

Other than that, a rolled up newspaper - they are not good luck at all, they are just <deleted> monsters. There are many things you can believe in if you want to be spiritual and bring yourself good look and something that poops all over your walls wouldn't be my first choice ;-)

  4. I have lots of these things too and the only method i have discovered to kill them is by using my foot! It may not be the humane way of doing it but it certainly works.

Maybe a better way would be to try those fly catcher type things with the glue on (that never dries) but they are not that big and may prove to be expensive if you have 100's!

I'll ask around the Thai's in the village - maybe they got an old ancient way of dealing with them,

  5. don't have to go through but do it cus the chili sauce in McDonalds in KL airport is far superior to that offered in Thailand so grrab yourself a horrible McDs and make it nice with hot chili sauce.....that way you can have done things the right way and treated yourself to a bit of rough food.............ignore the taxi drivers mind.......they're a disgrace to humanity there. In fact the whole place is awful, it's the armpit of SE Asia and i never wanna sniff it again :-)

    Good luck!!!!

  6. sounds like you're dealing with unreasonable people and of course the way generally the system works (i have seen it so much in Thailand) the more you p**s them off the more they will be difficult with you.

It seems like an impossible situation for you i'm sorry to say - somebody suggested selling the place. I'd do that as if you can't get phone or internet line you won't be able to live comfortable and you sure as hell won't be able to rent the place out as EVERYBODY wants internet.

    Sorry man and good luck!!

  7. It's very simple - word should be put out there that NOBODY should rent these jet ski's. Come on holiday to enjoy yourself - would you really have had a poor holiday had you gone home having not rented out a jet ski? doubt it.

How's the Phuket taste in your mouth now that this has happened tot eh kid? And what's he gonna do first thing he does when he goes home? Tell everyone his story and damage Phuket even more.

These toe rags need to be put out of business and it's only by stopping renting them that it will happen!

Good luck to mr Cunningham though - he's being very brave here doing his duty but i worry for him because these guys can be dangerous!!

  8. I just go about my business and every day life the way i would in my own country. That just means being polite, doing whatever you have to do to make your life as easy and happy as possible but i always remember that of course i am in a foreign country so the cultural values and people must be respected.

Having been here 7 years, i've found it works ok. It's an interesting post and some great comments. Thanks for sharing!!

  9. My friend, all i am trying to say is that Ron clearly needs advice on a difficult situation. He doesn't need people tarnishing him with a brush that many get tarnished with.

Apologies if i have caused offence but i tend to consider other peoples feelings and if i were to receive those comments i would for sure be offended.

It doesn't matter whether i am a new member or not, that should not come into it. Everybody is entitled to their opinion i totally agree with that but some things are uncalled for. I'm not going to get into a slanging match on who is right or who is wrong on this because ultimately the subject title is to do with a visa problem and not an opinion on whether 'newbies' are placed in a hierarchy to be able to comment or not on something.

Cheers and if there was an emotion for a handshake, i'd offer it!
