  1. ok...just an update.   My 30 day visa exemption expires 29 August.

Went to the local Thai immigration office in Udon Thani this morning.  Very helpful - the main man.....He immediately extended my visa until 28 Septemer (2k baht).

He suggested a 90 day extension and then apply for marriage visa.  ALL can be done at the Immigration office in udon Thani - no need to go to Laos and once marriage visa issued he stated valid for one year and no need to leave every 90 days.

    Requirements for 90 day extension:

    1. Confirmation of Income by British Embassy in Bangkok - can be done by post
    2. Wife's blue book and ID card
    3. Plan of rented house
    4. Agreement rental
    5. Owner's blue book copy and ID copy
    6. Photos of me and my wife at/around the rented property
    7. Two passport Photos
    8. Marriage certificate - our original was  Type 3 - we had to go to local Amphur to get Type 2 (20 baht - about ten minutes)

  2. Sorry to test your patience agaian....but what about a Non-Immigrant Visa O-A by virtue of "retirement" ????  Anyone know what requirements are needed, as I believe with that visa I do not need to go in and out of the country every 90 days.

Also, when I enter Thailand on 30-day Visa-exempt, (or checkin at Paris), do I have to show proof that I have a ticket OUT of Thailand ?

  3. Sorry.......I actually meant to refer to teh LAos optio from JEAB1980

" non o multy entry is your best bet Savanakhet stay overnight hassle free 5k fee."

Presumably once I get the non o multy entry I can stay put in Thailand for one year and not have to leave/reenter.

Also, when I enter Thailand on 30-day Visa-exempt, (or checkin at Paris), do I have to show proof that I have a ticket OUT of Thailand ?

  4. Thanks - I have been to Laos before when I fell foul of new laws limiting re-entry!!

Presumably, once I get the Marriage Visa there I do not have to leave every 90 days.

PS:  Also, if I enter on 30 day visa exempt, do I have to show a return ticket out of Thailand?

  5. Thanks for the quick reply.  I don't want to open a Thai bank account - money will get transferred to my wife's Thai bank account (income is np....although statements /pension details etc in English....).

.....so probably looking at second option......when you say unlimted 90 day entries for a year..presumably I have to cross into Laos every 90 days and back across into Thailand (via Friendship bridge...)  Presumably all they will need to see (apart from passports) is proof of our marriage?

Yes, my wife will accompany me from France and will use her Thai passport.   We also have a 4 ear old son who has both Uk and Thai passports.

  6. Unexpectedly plan to go to Thailand on 29 July.  Am retired, UK National/British Passport  but living in France.

We plan to build a house for my wife's parents (please...no warnings about doing this....been married 4 years....) and so we plan to stay/rent in Udon Thani until probably AUg/Sept/2018 while this is being done..

No time to sort out Visas before we go.  I realise I get a 30 day visa on arrival, but how / where do I extend that for the time I plan to be there (and what type of visa)?

    thanks

  7. I have read the topic here with interest.  I stayed in Thailand for around 18 months a few years ago before returning to the UK.

Now of course rules and requirements have changed, so can I just try and get a summary?

My Thai wife and I plan to go back to Thailand next September for one year, during which time we will build a small house for her parents - we will rent a house whilst this is being built.

Now.....what is the best / easiest way to stay for one year?

    1) to get a 90day visa before I arrive(?) and:

    a) extend at local immigration (with all their varying requirements) or

    B) is it really possible to  exit /re-enter the country (via Nong Khai Friendship bridge?) every three months? How long do they allow you back in for?  How many times can that be done?    (I ask this because last time, after the regime change I went across the bridge but was refused entry back into Thailand as it was the second time I had done it - after much pleading I was given a two week entry and had to go back to the Thai Embassy in Laos to get a 'proper' visa.....)

I would add that I am in my sixties, reasonable income and savings.

    2) any other solution?btw what is "an updated Kor Ror 2 marriage registry"

  8. The financial guidance in Immigration Directorate Instruction Family Migration: Part 8: Annex F only applies if meeting the requirement through what is called "adequate maintenance."

The section I referred to comes from Appendix FM Section 1.7 Appendix Armed Forces Financial Requirement, previously linked to by RichardW above

I am still confused!!! I am not in the Armed Forces so those rules...and section 3.6 .... should not apply!

WHY cannot I use the requirements under 'adequate maintenance'?

  9. Good about the English test...was used in original visa.

In the guide I linked there is no section 4.2 or 4.2.1 it is all just section 4.....

Part 8: Annex F Adequate Maintenance & Accommodation
    August 2015
    4.Income
All legal income for the family unit can be included, such as
    :
Income from salaried or non-salaried employment
    .
Income from self-employment or as a director of a specified limited company in the UK.
Non-employment income, e.g. income from property rental or dividends from shares.
 Income from Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Child Benefit, income-relatedbenefits, contributory benefits
and benefits/pensions payable to Armed Forces veterans and their partner.
 State (UK or foreign) or private pension.
Cash savingsheld for at least 6 months prior to the date of application
  10. We are getting ahead of ourselves and away from the question.

I am solely concerned with FLTR.

Is the income requirement £18,600 or £18,000?

Longer term I will have no problem as I will have savings £30,000+ (I am selling a second property in France) plus income of £17,300+.

What I want to know....for FLT ...I have around £17,300 pa income.PLUS child benefit and CTC of arounf £3,500.

    a) is CB & CTC allowed towards income?

    B) if not, are they really so strict that if my income is £17,300 they would refuse/deport my wife? even though we have a British son?

  11. Along same lines.....my Thai wife is here with me in UK on UK Settlement Visa, due to be renewed in August 2017.

I have had to use my £50,000 savings to repay house mortgage at end of term.

    On renewal.....

    a) does child benefit/Tax credits count towards income?

    B) failing that my income is £17,370.....are they really that strict if just £1000 approx short?

As I am retired, I also do some ad hoc consultancy for a website design company....say £1500 a year....what would I need to show to prove that as it's pretty informal.

  12. My wife, our son and I are in the UK.

We are planning to go back to Thailand for six weeks in January.

    I have a British passport

My wife has Thai Passport with valid UK Settlement Visa

Our son has both Thai and British passports.

I will be getting a 60-day Visa for myself. My question is...does my son need one or can he:

    do the following:

    UK to Thailand:
Show British passport to airline at check in.
Show British passport, if required, to UK border control.
Show Thai passport to Thai immigration on arrival in Thailand.

    Thailand to UK
Show Thai passport to airline at check in..
Show Thai passport to Thai immigration so they know he hasn't overstayed.
Show British passport to UK immigration.

If yes, what passport number does he put on the arrival card? Does he need to complete one anyway?

  13. Well, I looked there before my posting - it does not tell me.

I know all about the Schengen Visa process - I obgtained two for my wife (before we were mnarried).

It is the legal documents required specifically for my wife's 10 year old niece that I need to clarify.

    TLS themselves are unhelpful.

    Also...three separate applications?

  14. My Thai wife and I reside in France.

Next year we are hoping that her parents can join us for two weeks holiday here
before doing the same with her sister in Germany. We will apply in the normal way
for a Schengen Visa for them.

However, they look after, as their own, their other daughter's child, who is 10, and
naturally they will want her to visit with them.

What additional documents are needed for the 10-year old to accompany them?

    thanks

  15. Can I ask another question?

    My travel plans now are:

France - mid March to mid June

Thailand - mid June to mid September (will apply for UK Visitor Visa wef end of November)

France - mid september to end November (spouse schengen visa or indeed I will also apply for a Carte de Sejour for my wife whilst in France).

UK - end of November on Visitor Visa

As the Trinity A1 Level test in London is so short (6 minutes), will take the test there in December.

Assuming a pass from that test, am I right in understanding that an application can then be made to extend the stay (as a partner of Person Present and Settled in the UK) beyond six months

via the FLR(M) application whilst we are both in the UK? The form seems to indicate that we can.

I meet residential and financial requiremensts.

    thanks
