  1. If you "help them out" by giving them something to cover their travel expenses to your house for their visit, perhaps you are being overly generous, and they are interpreting your generosity as an invitation to visit you every year? Just a thought.
  2. The law hasn't been changed yet has it? Until it's changed it remains illegal to make your own alcohol in Thailand. Surely he isn't telling people it's ok to break the law?
  3. It's a decent enough return THB180K per year (almost 2% per annum at the start, with 15 rooms, and rental income would increase over time) and he has the property assets to keep which ought to increase in value over time too. (Additional income can also be generated from the re-sale of electricity to tennants). It keeps his assets safe which is what he wanted too. Dude It's a really good idea.
  4. If you're leaving your money in Thailand and want to invest it in Thailand, but are also lookin for a low risk investment, then you might consider the property purchase & then rental route that someone else suggested. Someone suggested buying a condo and looking for a rental income - possibly of more interest might be buying or building a few "hongtel" type rooms near where you live and renting the rooms out to Thais. Your personal situation will be relevant - living in the city or countryside, married or not? In the countryside it's cheaper & easer to buy a small plot of land near a school or local factory and build a hongtel. With a Thai wife she can probably also help with stuff like finding a good plot to build on and getting you a good price for it. In the city it would be more expensive to do and maybe not as easy to find the land. (If you're single and land owning is an issue for you as a foreigner, you might consider setting up a Thai company to buy the land and then you could rent the land from that company on a long lease for a pittance). Anyway if you build a small hongtel you could easily have 10 - 15 rooms for rental to Thais. They might bring in an income of THB1,000 per month per room. Plus you have the property to protect your capital. Maybe an outlay of about THB10,000,000 to build 10 - 15 rooms & buy the land. Very occasionally you come across a ready made hong-tel property up for sale - maybe that's something also to consider if the price is right.
  5. They always knew I lived abroad! It's never been an issue for the UK bank. I told them before I moved here 12 years ago that I was moving here. I asked them 12 years ago if I should use a UK address for my UK bank account, if I should transfer my UK bank account to the bank's branch in Bangkok, or if I should use my Thai address. It was the bank who suggested I use a forwarding address in the UK. It's worked fine for me for all these years. So if my bank ever decided I could no longer hold an account with them in the UK because I live abroad it would always have been easy for them to shut my account down - having my contact number in Thailand doesn't alter the situation.
  6. They cancelled that appointment. Gave me a new appointment for last Friday (23rd July) and they gave me my first dose of Astra Zeneca vaccine last Friday. They also made a follow up appointment for me in October to get a 2nd dose of Astra Zeneca then. It all went ok although I suffered some side effects for about 24 hours - fever and aches and pains. Treated myself with rest, paracetamol and water - which is the advice they gave on the day of the jab when they warned about possible side effects. I'm fine again now.
  7. No - Srinagarind Hoospital gave me the Astra Zeneca vaccine. On Friday 23 July. They also made me an appointment for my 2nd dose in October.
  8. Or just phone your UK bank & tell them your situation. I had the same problem/issue last week for the first time. I called my bank's call center spoke to them and they set up my UK bank account records with my Thai mobile phone number. I was then able to carry out the transaction I wanted to carry out and the One Time Verification code for my internet purchase was sent to my mobile phone in Thailand.
