  1. Disgraceful. These vaccines were supposed to be for front line staff not hiso governors and their wives

The move is hoped to boost confidence among local people to be willing to take the vaccine

I think local people would have more confidence if local front-line doctors and nurses were shown being given the shot!

The first 35,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine were distributed to 13 provinces

This is a mere drop in the ocean when the population is 69 million!  Come on Thailand, get a grip.  Has production under licence of the AZ vaccine started here yet or do they think that somehow it will magically materialise in June?

PHUKET: Dr Thanit Sermkaew, who has long served as the Chief of the Phuket Public Health Office (PPHO),

After serving as the PPHO Chief for two years, including all throughout the COVID-19 pandemic so far,

I don't consider a mere 2 years to be long service!  I worked for the government for 36 years and received a book token for my long service not a gold Buddha statue! ????

Thailand will then begin domestic production of  61 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine. Officials have indicated that production of the vaccine will begin around May or June.

Why have they not started already? They have been talking about this for months and should have been in a position to start production once the vaccine was approved for use!  What should also be remembered is that two injections 3 months apart are required for the most efficacious results. So all in all, about 130 million doses should be available.  Good news about it being free to expats too. ????

The hospital has 10 restrooms, six shower rooms, a cafeteria, a conference room and separate staff station. It also provides Wi-Fi signal throughout the area to allow patients to communicate with staff.

Not ideal facilities for 500+ patients! Presumably, those patients without smart phones will be left to rot, unable to communicate with staff ????

  6. Yes, all very well, but I see no reference anywhere to the R number.  R refers to the effective reproduction number, which is a way of measuring an infectious diseases capacity to spread.  For example, an R number of 1.5 would mean that 100 people would infect 150 others and they in turn would infect 225 who would infect 338 etc.  An R number greater than one sees the virus increase, an R number less than 1 means that the virus would eventually peter out.

Currently in the UK the R number is 1.2 to 1.3 with a daily infection growth rate range of +2% to +5% as of 15 January 2021.

Thailand’s Tourism Minister said on Monday he had proposed a plan to allow foreigners to quarantine in some of the country’s many golf resorts to boost the ailing tourism sector during the coronavirus pandemic.

Has he just woken up!  This was proposed and accepted months ago!  In fact it is already in situ according to yesterday's article on ASQs!  https://forum.thaivisa.com/topic/1201171-what-to-expect-at-asq-hotels-in-thailand/

"Golfers looking to tee up golf quarantine in Thailand, and who have all their advance arrangements in good order, will be allowed to undergo quarantine at an ASQ golf course hotel. During the mandatory quarantine period, foreign golfers are allowed to enjoy a round of golf and other health-related activities at the course on their personal expense account."

Of the 30,000 people targeted by the case-search operation, more than 9,000 in 109 factories have already been tested, while the remaining 20,000 will be tested within two weeks.

20,000 tested in 2 weeks!  They should be testing double that amount per day!  Yesterday in UK they conducted 536,947, tests and in the last 7 days, 3,946,344 tests!  No wonder the number of positive cases is so low!
