  1. Ex PM Abhisit comes from a very wealthy family based in England. He was educated at Eton and Oxford ? He wouldn't be the slighest bit concerned about court trials and jail time.

    Its all Asian mind games.

Yingluck was "educated" in the States. What's your point? At least Abhisit learned something when he was abroad! His English is impeccable.

Actually Abhisit has a first class honours degree in politics and economics from Oxford.... you don't buy them. wink.png

Followed by a Masters in economics from St. John's Oxford. You don't buy them either.

And btw he wasn't technically 'abroad', he was born in England and was educated in Eton.

Terrible people skills though, you can't buy them either.coffee1.gif

Probably more to do with the people. :whistling:

As for people skills, maybe he could study er, umm, Yingluck who tryeth to ah, speaketh, to the, er other people of the other, er country not from Thailand, who we, er invite for very good business, um, in to Thailand.

  2. when take my car for service at the official dealer, they always ask me what needs to be done? i just answer ckeck everything and replace what is neede. dont they have a ckecklist for every 10k km? like the time belt, will they chqnge that too or will i have to tell them ? will have 100k soon

    A pet peeve of mine.

Take a vehicle into any dealer for an official service as indicated in the manual. Tell them you want the 20k km service or whatever, and they ask you what you want them to check and do.

Instead of saying, okay the 20k km service, the service manual here suggests we inspect these parts, and replace these parts. We will do that (or at least pretend to) and let you know of anything else we see.

I have learned that for every service here I research it all, type up an exact list of what I want inspected, replaced, and done (lubing cables etc. on my motorcycle), and hand it over to the manager while going through it verbally.

I still wouldn't trust/believe them to actually inspect anything though.

  4. You cannot own land as a foreigner.

Actually you can legally own one rai, if you invest 40m baht. A semi-loophole set up for foreign embassies here.

OP, in your situation you cannot. You can buy it for the child under the name of a Thai adult until the child is 18 (or 20?). The Thai adult cannot sell it without court approval.

In some cases there are forged documents, purposefully incorrect ownership documents originally submitted, dodgy court approvals etc etc.

If you want to buy your child some property simply for security maybe put the money in to a new condo fully in your name, then rent it out. When they are 18 transfer it to their name. The rental income would likely cover the rental of a house for you and your family.

There is also the adage of rent don't buy in Thailand. You could buy a house and 3 months later have an illegal pig farm, all-night karaoke, illegal motorcycle gang workshop, or perhaps all three open up right next to you and you will be utterly powerless to do anything about it.

Thread carefully, act slowly and wisely.

    Good luck.

  5. geeezus, every 3rd thaivisa email i get it delivers the news of a bus crash. Makes one start to question traveling in them.

    I know, I know.

Time to get the train to Chiang Mai instead.

Oh right, they've all been cancelled due 15,746 derailments in the past 6 months.

Perhaps the people of Thailand just aren't ready to be in control of such concepts of Western technology as trains and motor vehicles.

  9. Labels such who is a biker and who isn't are really only used by the insecure.

Surely what they class as a biker is someone who buys a bike for fun, and not just a mode of transport to get from A-B.

Distances, usage and everything else that's used to discredit someone is just a bit sad on the part of the person trying to put them down so they can feel an inch longer.
