  1. In his shoes I would not hang my expectations too high as the EU is already taking measures just in case Thailand is fooling around again:

The European Union on Tuesday cleared the way for Philippine fish exports to the 28-member bloc after it took stock of the country's achievements in curbing illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

  2. I hope this is not classified as a troll post…

The number of guns held by civilians in Thailand is estimated to be 10,000,000, which puts the country at eleventh in world rankings for number of guns held. Out of these 10,000,000 guns, only 3,870,000 of them are registered, leaving over 6,000,000 under illegal possession. In 2000, it was reported that there were 20,032 of firearms homicide cases, one of the highest in the world.

Sorry these stats are already 15 years old. However, now take a wild guess what today’s figures would show…

  3. They missed a unique opportunity to get some credit and respect from the rest of the world, and become "Thailand No.1" for a good reason, instead of being seen as a country ruled by greed and ignorance.

They should have used their worthless aircraft carrier to bring rice (before it was rotten) to the needy in the refugee camps of the Middle East. But they prefer to bring “happiness” to their own farming population by dumping it.

Losing face over a stupid vote buying rice scam is one thing this country can get over with.

Losing face for dumping millions of tons of rice, while others starve, would not be that easy and brings nothing but shame to the country.

If this is part of your high moral standards behind the curtain of Thainess- dump that instead!

  4. Sometimes I do have a laugh with some of the Nation's articles.

What has to do the Thais income with elections this year?

I do understand that they are in trouble as they have no sense of financial responsibilities and they borrow money as there is no tomorrow,

but elections or not elections will not help them.

Some education could help them, but this is also too late.

Hard to manage finances on less than 15k a month.

And that's the Thais with educations.

    Without education less than 300bht/day,

I think I would give up too.

  5. A doctor from the hospital stated the the woman had probably been at the bottom of the pool for a long time

When she was recovered from the pool the woman was still conscious but was having difficulty breathing.

Well “doctor”, your definition of long time could need a little explanation, considering the time an average person can live without breathing.

  6. Finally we get there: no matter what color - one helmet(law) fits all.

Do as I say NOT as I do whistling.gif

Applies all over the world, not just in Thailand coffee1.gif

Big difference: There was no helmet law during the Thaksin era.

Maybe there was no helmet law under Thaksin. However, I was fined 1.500 Thb for it during his reign by the police on Phuket's Rat u Thit Road in Patong

Thanks for the lecture, any attempt to propose to Costa's daughter yet? Even if this appears a little boring to you, these comments " it happens elsewhere too" are not relevant in any case.

  8. One of the most positive threads I have ever read on TV (with only an absolute minimum of bashing).

I once had a Thai gf, a teacher with a Masters degree, and she would sometimes ask me for ideas about what to say in the little morning homily she and other teachers in turn had to give to the amassed students at flag-respecting time.

I just told her to try and get across the idea that you should keep asking questions, questions questions. Tell them that not all questions have answers. Or at least, not just ONE answer.

What IS the meaning of life? Ok, you are not going to produce little Bertrand Russells overnight, but what an amazing concept it is, here in LoS, to be introduced to the notion that there is MORE THAN ONE answer to any question outside mathematics (and perhaps even inside mathematics, I dunno).

MORE THAN ONE answer to any question?

As sad as it is in a country where the PM is already pissed off with one question by the media and constantly threatens to shut down inconvenient publications, no matter if their reporting is based on facts - then there is only one answer to all questions. Accordingly this mindset goes down from top to universities, schools and even Kindergarten..
