I'd like to buy a condominium for my daughter.

She is Thai, has a Thai ID card and has a has a foreigner name (my surname).

There are plenty of foreign quota units available for a higher price, I am OK with paying extra for foreign quota.

I'd like her to buy with foreign quota, the sales people are saying she doesn't have to buy as foreigner or can't have the title in foreign quota.

Anyone know if this is true?

If she had a foreign passport maybe it's possible even though she's Thai? foreign quota is easier to sell for sure

only reason to want foreign quota is to sell later on, you'd have more opportunity and price if the condo is still in foreigner quota

but are there anyway for a Thai to hold on to foreign quota? I don't think so, short of using her foreign identity to but the condo with associated paperwork like FET

if the occupancy is not filled up it may be still possible to transfer to foreigner while the 49% is not met, but this can't be guaranteed won't be filled by the time you want to sell.

If she has double passports she can simply buy with the foreign passport under foreign quota, logical. I don't believe this with not being able to buy as a Thai from a condo with foreigner quota too, my friends here sold their condo's plenty of times to a Thai, while they had the foreigner quota.

I could believe you might 'lose the foreigner quota' once buying it as a Thai, but it should not be impossible to buy the unit itself in general.

So many people have a misunderstanding about the foreign quota....

The units are NOT marked as local\foreign units, and no number of units are kept for only Thai or only non Thai buyers.

It is so simple - no more than 49% of the units (or area) can be owned by foreigners. A foreigner can but a unit from a Thai person as long as at the time of purchase less than 49% of the building is registered to Thais.

Whenever a foreigner buys a unit, be it from a Thai or a foreigner, the juristic person must issue a letter to the land department saying that at that point in time less than 49% of the building is owned by non Thais. So if a Thai person buys a unit from another Thai - nothing changed. If a Thai person buys a unit from a foreigner - the share of Thai owners increases and that of non Thais decreases. That's it.

You married a grandmother? I'd say the answer you your question is in mine....

  3. I wonder how they're going to do that. I've been trying to book a domestic flight for the last 10 days without success. The flight showed as available, the price kept going up everyday, yet when trying to book it an error message popped up saying something went won't and that I should try again later. Tried on 3 different computers, 3 different browsers - all with same result.

Reluctantly I downloaded their app but couldn't log in.

I guess the need to Q is location and grade of petrol to use.  When using 91, occasionally had to Q, but usually not.   Using E85, never Q'd, I don't think, actually harder to find, than a CS station now, as only the newest, larger PTTs offered E85.

No matter what grade, it still took 5-10 minutes to get topped up & pay, unlike the less than 1 minute, to top up at home.  So, 5-10X to top up vs the 1/10 in the OP, when local, which people are during most of the year.

Comparing the time to plug in with time to refuel? Let's try this: 2 cars, one ev and the other ice, both have a 350 km range. Driving from Bangkok to Chiang mai, both starting with full tank\battery.

At the 350 km mark both have to refuel\recharge. Now go compare the time needed.

Bluestacks will install and run ANY apk.

Sorry I waved it off so fast. You are correct. I downloaded the emulator. As there are ads running, it was easy to see that I have internet connection and that it goes through the VPN. Checked my IP address using the built in Chrome - also works well. Couldn't install Brave for some reason, but installed the APP I have problems with on the WSA - same problem here. So I guess it has a geolocation barrier somewhere in it that bypasses the VPN. Before installing it on my phone while I was overseas I called their sales people (you have to subscribe for the services) and the rep told me it will work overseas through a VPN. I contacted support while here and they told me it's not gonna work even with VPN. So obviously they somehow blocked it.

And ChatGPT is of no help either........

I'm sorry, but I cannot assist you with any actions that involve modifying or tampering with applications, especially in ways that may violate their terms of service or legal agreements.

Removing geolocation blocks from an APK (Android application package) can potentially lead to unauthorized access or use of services, and it is important to respect the terms and conditions set by app developers and service providers. Geolocation restrictions are often implemented for valid reasons, including compliance with local laws and regulations, content licensing agreements, or ensuring the app functions correctly in specific regions.

If you have concerns or issues with geolocation restrictions in a particular app, I recommend reaching out to the app's developer or support team for assistance. They may be able to provide insights into the reasons behind the restrictions or offer alternative solutions if applicable.

It's crucial to use applications in accordance with their intended use and within the boundaries defined by their developers and service providers. Unauthorized modification of apps can lead to unintended consequences and may violate legal and ethical standards.

I haven't had a chance to look at it yet. Is there a virtual wifi created anywhere in Windows? If so, I would check if that is set as public or guest or whatever network. Also check firewall is allowing through virtual wifi or whatever Windows applet the Android VM is using. Although if some Store apps are working, that may not be the case. Unless sideloaded apps are somehow assigned a different IP?

Maybe, if that is not working - and this is just a guess without much thought - could you find the virtual IP and forward that through your router?

I recall some time ago that i set up a bunch of VMs for a customer using virtual box and something similar happened. I think I solved it in Windows with the firewall.

I don't know where to look for the virtual WiFi, however, the Amazon app store and whatever I download from it can connect to the net, so obviously it is not a system connection problem. APK's I downloaded from other sources and sideloaded into the VM such as Brave browser cannot connect for some reason. There are very limited options to set and tweak the apps as well as the subsystem and I can't seem to find anything that will show (let alone change) the DNS or IP the app looks for.

Using Basic Web Browser (downloaded from Amazon app store, so it is working fine) I can check my IP address with/without VPN and it shows the correct location.

So I guess I am looking for a way to tweak the problematic apps and not the subsystem.

  7. Set up my laptop for the VM and downloaded relevant files. Downloaded the Amazon App Store and it works fine. Apps I downloaded through the Amazon Store work fine as well (a simple browser). However, as there are not many interesting apps in that store, I also installed both WSA Tools and ADB so I can sideload APK's from other sources. The apps were installed fine, but for some reason they cannot connect to the internet so useless. Anyone here ever came across this problem? Any ideas for a fix?

    Thanks.

But maybe just something like: there is a club in soi x which opens up to 5 - or something like that.

I guess there must be more than one open place considering the amount of people.

Why don't you ask one of them in person?

Yes the airport itself belongs to the airline, but it is then managed by a subsidiary company of Bangkok Airways Public Co Ltd. The airport and airline have different responsibilities at Koh Samui.

Many airport functions are also run by subsidiaries.

https://investor.bangkokair.com/en/corporate-info/subsidiaries#:~:text=Our Subsidiary and Associated companies&text=BAC Gourmet House Co.%2C Ltd.&text=Bangkok Air Catering Phuket Co.%2C Ltd.&text=Bangkok Air Catering Samui Co.%2C Ltd.&text=Bangkok Air Catering Chiang Mai Co.%2C Ltd.

That doesn't change the fact that they own it and decide how much to charge. I know that over 25 years ago they charged USD400 landing fee for small airplanes (ie Cessna 150\170) while government owned airports (including DMK which at the time was the only airport in Bangkok) charged 400 THB. they own a couple of other airports in Thailand and it's the same story there.

the Crown Prince (now HM King Rama X) asked for permission to practice take-offs and landings at the airport. He had recently received his commercial pilots licence.

    BA said 'of course'.

Strange. HM practiced and got his licence on B747. Those cannot land at Samui airport due to length of the runway... HM used to practice landings at Utapao airport.

As for TG flying to Samui, I already mentioned in another reply that this was a condition set by the government in order to approve the extension of the runway to accommodate PG's (not BA) small jets (they started with B717 back then, but the runway could only accommodate their propellor airplanes).

As for building a 2nd airport - makes no sense at all. Someone mentioned JFK and EWR and the 2 airports in SFO as an example for nearby airports. While that is true, the actual point is that those airports serve a much bigger area and a much bigger load of passengers whereas Samui airport serves mainly Samui Island and maybe a little bit of Koh Tao and panghgan

I believe part of the problem is that one airline holds the monopoly for flights.

https://kohplanner.com/koh-samui-prices/#:~:text=The reason behind the higher, beautiful airports in the World.

They actually own the airport and charge hefty landing fees from anyone who wants to fly into Samui.

Many years ago when they had to extend the runway so their jets can land there the government conditioned the approval by them allowing Thai airways to fly to Samui and for a while TG actually had 2 daily flights but prices were higher than Bangkok airways.

To the OP: BA is the signcall for British airways. Bangkok airways is PG

we were told that a bankers draft or bank transfer was OK, but would take an extra day to process, meaning we would have gone through the whole process of waiting for a number to come up the following day

Paid about 1m with a bank's draft at the land office few years ago, tax was paid on cash. Chanot was amended and given back with my name on it on the spot.

BTW, the money was in my bank account in BKK and I was in CM at the time. I transferred the money to my account in CM

through internet banking with no costs at all. Only sum above the 1m limit was charged some commission.
