  1. Surely this is a crime that falls under the computer crimes act if ever there was one. If they can charge that poor farmer for this then the guy who ripped the OP off has no chance. Now the OP just needs a connected lawyer and a bent copper and this guy is going away for at least 10 years. ????

Home Pro probably takes the cake!

It's like 10 employees per sub-section, doing basically nothing all day long!

Anyway, it used to be a bit like that in the West...just watch old movies from the 50s and see the numbers of guys attending a car at a gas station.

Those were the days when the CEOs didn't think that only them deserved to be paid, and that the wealth generated by business could be shared...

I have to say that Home Pro is the one for me. Far too many staff that don't have a clue about the products they sell. Every time I go there I dread the employees trying to help me. If I need help I will ask. Chances are the employee won't have the knowledge to help anyway. Case in point I went to Home Pro (Lampang) looking for a pressure washer. They only had one Karcher on display. It didn't have all of the attachments I wanted so I started looking at a Black & Decker that did. The guy trying to help kept going on about some Italian made washer that was on offer and of course my TGF bought into the whole thing telling me that this model was the only one that could be repaired with spare parts if it broke down (what about the warranty on the other brands?) The guy then proceeded to plug in the Black & Decker and the Italian washer without having a water supply connected and no one could understand my concern that running a pressure washer with no water supply may just be a little bit detrimental to the machine ?. After I dismissed the guy and my TGF we left and paid for the items we had bought, I noticed a whole bunch of Karcher pressure washers on display after the payment counters. They had at least 4 different other models to the one on display inside the shop!!! I looked at all of the models and chose the one I wanted. It seemed as if their guy had no clue that Home Pro were currently running a promotion on Karcher pressure washers or maybe there was a better commission on the Italian brand he kept pushing.

Up north in Tha Ton we have had more cuts this year than the past 6 years. Every storm or crash of thunder and we race to find candles, flashlights and fill a bucket with water before the electric goes and the pump goes silent. I have had more 8.30pm bedtimes since April than ever before in my life. If your business depended on electric you would have to provide your own. Thailand 1940's.

I've been experiencing the same thing in Phrae province. Been coming here every 3 months or so for 4 years for a couple of weeks at a time and only had one really big outage a few years back during a substantial thunder storm. Over the past couple of months I've been calling my GF and finding she is sat in the dark as the power has gone out after a little shower. I am here now and we have had 1 outage since last week for a minor rain shower yet ironically there was a pretty big storm the other night and the power stayed on. When we built her house I purposely didn't bother with a generator as the supply seemed so reliable. Looks like that may have been a mistake.

  4. If I remember correctly some time over a year ago Chang had a big rebranding drive and that was when the old 6.4% disappeared and was replaced by the 5%. I seem to remember a couple of Thai celebs getting in trouble for "advertising" it on Facebook. Al I know is that most of our village drank Leo until the rebrand and now they all drink Chang :shock1:. Just shows what a bit of rebranding and a couple of celebrities can do. I still drink Leo or if I feel flush I have a Heineken. Not a fan of Chang now but the old stuff was awful. It got the beer buzz on much quicker but that was followed very quickly by a headache. I don't know what chemicals were in it but I've never has a headache like that from any beer/lager and that wasn't a hangover headache. That was only after a few beers.

  5. It is safe to open. A lot of stats on deaths. No answers to questions 1 or 2. I have pasted the text below but not the tables with figures for deaths. Open the file to see.

Definitely Indians...haha ..filthy, disgusting and smelly and stingy.. I know How? In india men hold hands together while eve teasing women..weird country and weird people.

Sent from my SM-G935F using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

You will find men in many countries walk arm in arm or holding hands. Seen it in eastern Europe, middle east, central asia. The first time I saw it was in the Balkans and I was taken aback as you don't see that much in UK. The surprising thing is that most of the countries I see it in are more homophobic and of a certain religion that would be happy to stone gay men to death. Crazy world.

  7. I see it all the time but not in Thailand. I see it on military bases where soldiers will walk 5 or 6 abreast down a road and won't even bother moving when they realise there is a vehicle up their ass. Usually it is Brits and Yanks but others do it also. Guess they think they are invincible. I don't honk as they have guns and I don't

  8. I have 2 passports. One is my personal one and one is a business one with visas for a couple of countries. I enter and leave Thailand using my personal passport. After I get to Dubai I have a connecting flight and at check-in in BKK they always ask if I have a visa. I just produce the second passport and everything is sweet. Both my passports are British but I wouldn't expect the Thai/Canadian situation will create any problems for your wife.

  9. 3rd world was originally coined to represent countries that were neither NATO or Soviet alligned. Despite the Thais history of sitting on the fence I think the Vietnam war showed it was alligned to NATO/US.

A later use was related to more economic terms i.e. developed (industrial), developing and under developed (3rd world).

Anyone who has been to a real 3rd world (under developed) country will realise that Thailand as a whole does not come close. The poorest areas may slightly resemble 3rd world conditions but that is the case in most developed nations.

The OP talked about healthcare and Stoneyboy with some justification stated it was all about money. That is also the case in the world's richest country.

  10. I find this extremely racist and disturbing....

Watch out, your reference to Scottish, makes this post borderline racist.

    <deleted>

I'm writing from first hand experience.

I did think about that but we Scots take enormous pride in the fact that copper wire was invented when two Aberdonians fought over a penny, ho, ho, ho.

Seriously. Germans use the expression "Scottish prices" routinely. We just to take great pride in our Calvinist dourness. There's actually a "Little book of Calvin", full of joys such as, "Aye, we'll be deid soon".

how we English are looking forward to that day.

You need to get a sense of humour zurgos.

I'm a Scot and I can see the humour in these post. You take offence too easily.

  11. I'm amazed so many expats are apparently either worried about the cost of water or still lugging heavy bottles home from the shops.

Surely this is one of the absolute basics to life here?

Well, there are a number of threads on "Living on hee haw", and I thought it was worth asking. The number of people who i) look as if they have nothing, but ii) pay 15 baht for a bottle of water is amazing. I'll fill a bottle in a food court but loads of people seem happy to pay a third or a half of the cost of their lunch for water.

You do realise that some people will now think you are talking about donkeys (hee haw)? There is probably someone out there thinking not only are you tight when buying water but you are living off donkey flesh.biggrin.png

  12. Nothing "NEW" !

Phuket have had these signs since at least last February.

I think it's unreasonable to ban sandals and short pants in beach resort areas like Phuket and Pattaya.
I think it is unreasonable anywhere in a country with a tropical climate. More so considering the vast majority of the locals wear shorts and flip flops every day.

Perhaps but I understand a stricter code in Bangkok especially around short pants. Not so much about sandals if they're decent and not flip flops.

You are probably right. In the city more people may be expected to wear smart clothes for work or appointments. I'm in the sticks where dressing smart for most of the locals means putting on your best polo shirt.

  13. I think you over estimate how much publicity things like this get overseas.

I always tried to keep abreast of current afairs and I can't say that I ever heard of the jet ski scam before coming to Thailand.

Back home the most you will get in the media is big ticket items like military coups, flooding or natural disasters, maybe a business story but that is about it. You would really have to be digging deep to come across a jet ski scam story.

The other day you asked why people fall for bar girls. What's tomorrow's hot topic? Why do people get ripped off by tuk tuk and taxi drivers?

  14. Credible? I find it incredible you need to ask.

If any of these alternative therapies work then scientists test them, prove them, make medicines out of them and make money out of them. They are then known as medicines. Until they have been tested and scientifically proven to work then who knows. The ones that have been scientifically tested and proven not to work are superstitious nonsense, old wives tales, mumbo jumbo etc.

  15. I see plenty of small geckos about the house but when I started hearing this loud noise at night I assumed it was a large frog or toad. The GF kept saying it was a toktaw. Didn't have a clue what she was on about until I saw one in daylight hours. Never heard the myth before but an amusing story all the same. I'll be sure not to try and pick one up unless I have previously administered a good dose of alcohol anesthetic.

  16. good luck with that

Hey, sometimes governments do good things. I voted for the full legalization of marijuana in Colorado and it actually passed. I am still shocked.

It's funny how peoples views can differ. I totaly agree with you on the pot thing but totaly disagree with you on the marriage thing. I am a single hetrosexual man (have a gf). I have no issues at all with gay marriage. If two guys or girls want to marry why should it bother me. Giving tax breaks to parents is something I could agree with but not based on sexuality or ethnicity.

Tax breaks aren't going to stop gay people getting married.

The way some are so disgusted by gay people is quite funny. You would almost think they were scared they might catch "gay"

  17. I usually come down on the side of gun control in these debates but here is an interesting statistic. (lies, damn lies and statistics, I know)

Just read "Freakonomics" by the economist Steven Levitt. In the US if you have a child, own a gun and have a swimming pool, your child is 100 times more likely to die in a drowning incident than from a gunshot wound. Kinda puts it in perspective. He has no ulterior motive in this finding. His kid died from meningitis and whilst attending a support group for parents who had lost children he couldn't help but notice how many people had lost kids through drowning accidents and decided to study it a bit more.

I wonder how many kids died in the US today of easily preventable causes but we only hear about the gun deaths?

    Totally interesting point!

    a) think it through! With no pool and NO FORKING GUN in the house, your child would be even safer!

b )I guess, you heard this one a 1.000 times...because it IS FORKING TRUE: a swimming pool (fill in a car/ a hammer/ a loose cable ob the TV...if you like) are not DESIGNED to kill anyone! A guns sole purpose is to kill! There is an slight difference between having an accident in your home, because sad things happen or having a murderous device, that -by definition- does, waht it is supposed to do, when it puts a hole in someones head!

And here is WHY, you don't here a bout as much about swimmingpool accidents: because they are JUST THAT!

    Accidents and accidents happen!

I totally get your point. I think you may be missing mine. A gun is designed to kill. I think we can all agree on that. A pool is not designed to kill but it does. It kills 100 times more US kids than guns do. Given the lack of resources nowadays I would rather spend some taxpayers money trying to educate folks on the dangers of swimming pools rather than trying to ban guns. If it was possible then tackle both issues but start with the ones that can save most lives.

Like I said in my post I am usually on the side of gun control but banning anything that can harm is not the way forward. And by the way I loved the You Tube clip of the Aussie comedian. Coming from my culture it was spot on but I don't come from the same culture as the US.

At the end of the day, up to them.wai.gif
