  1. Thanks for replies, its seems that a compromise has been made after a few phone calls in which my wife will just cut her hair, as in a centimetre or so, not shave it to the scalp... I am far happier about this, and as long as she doesnt feel cheated out of tradition/belief then everyone is happy.

  2. Hi - My thai wife and I live in the UK and have 2 daughters, 1 is 2.5yrs the other 7wks. Yesterday she announced that next Tuesday she is going to shave our babys head, she had been speaking to her mother on the phone and her mother was very insistent that she should do this and that it has to be next Tuesday.

Now dont get me wrong if we were living in Thailand I wouldnt dream of standing in the way of beliefs and traditions unless it was something more extreme, but we arent, and despite knowing that her hair will grow back, I am having some issues with this and dont want it to go ahead on principle - we didnt do this with our first either.

Ive made my feelings known but there is no compromise on this, so bar staying home from work and physically taking our baby out, this looks as though its going to happen. Im not happy about this, but am I over reacting?

    Opinions appreciated.

  3. I'm a bit excited about Cataclysm with its new changes. Wow has been out for so many years and it's getting old now. So, I might switch to another mmo but I'm not sure yet.

I will try Cataclysm for sure. I paid for other crap to try. So, why not an expansion from blizzard? :D

I'm thinking about FFXIV right now. It looks awesome.

Oh and I can't wait to try Worgen even though female Worgen looks like shit. Might level my main first with friends since they are all coming back. Should be fun. The whole raiding idea, not so much. lol

Now I have no first hand experience of Final Fantasy, things ive read on other forums give me the idea that it is quite a grindfest along the lines of Aion, Lineage2 & EQ2... Would that be a fair comment?

  4. So, we know that the next expansion is on the way but we dont know exactly when.

2 new playable races, Alliance have the Worgen, Horde have the Goblins. New Quest Hubs in Azeroth Zones, I think most if not all zones have been remodelled to reflect Deathwings emergence from the depths of the world... and one of my favourites is that players will have the ability to use flying mounts in Azeroth.

With Bioware currently working towards SWTOR release, a lot of MMO players are starting to get excited about the shift from fantasy to sci-fi (Im not dismissing EVE or StarTrek just focussing on SWTOR).

As for me, Im quite happy to sit back and enjoy the forthcoming Blizzard offering... Im not in a great rush to pick up another new MMO, Ive tried this a few times and always end up coming back to WoW...

LoTRo, WAR, AoC, Aion... all tried for varying amounts of time, but all fell short of the mark either by way of content, grind fest, community.

So what are your thoughts on what you have read/seen/heard about Cataclysm so far? Will it be a huge sucess in recreating vanilla WoW continents or is it just a quick money spinner from the devs to cash in on the crowd before an exodus to Star Wars: The Old Republic?

  5. My wife is currently in Thailand, she has been resident in the UK for the past 5 years and has ILR status.

She travelled out on a ticket booked under her current passport (with the visa stamp in), this passport had been extended till 2010 but she has now applied and been given a new thai passport from wherever in bangkok.

Question: Obviously she can travel back to the UK on the new passport providing she still has the old passport - flights etc will be booked on an e-ticket under this passport, but when the new passport is issued by the thai authorities will the old one be automatically cancelled?

Also is it true that we neednt pay to have the ILR stamp transfered to the new passport - or are we likely to get a ball ache when she returns to the UK in 3 months time?

Which reminds me - how long can she stay out of the UK on ILR visa?

    Thanks in advance - confused

  6. I have been drinking about 8-10 cups of decaf green tea a day, for at least 2 years now - its an aquired taste, but couldnt be without it now, its the yin to my weekend beers of yang if you know what i mean :o

  7. ok have spent a while re-reading posts and have answered some of my own questions now - have i got this right?

    - how many trees are normally planted per 10rai = about 76 per rai at 3m x 7m rows

    - when they should be planted = ?

    - is there a particular variety that is better suited for issan soil = ? RIM 251 has approx 40% higher yeild

    - rough cost of saplings (i realise this is largely dependant on size) = 20bt each ish

    - should fertilisers be rotivated in prior to planting or is it done at the same time = both ideally

    - are rubber trees particularly thirsty, the land seems to be fairly lush but i dont know what relation to the water table it is = ?

  8. The in-laws have ploughed/rotivated some 20+ rai in preparation for planting young rubber saplings (im guessing about a foot tall or something like that), neither my wife or I are having much more than financial input in this - and as we are not there i am interested to know a couple of things.. I was wondering if someone could give me some rough ideas of

    - how many trees are normally planted per 10rai

  9. No postal applications are accepted for Thai passports both overseas or in Thailand.

See also Extension of Thai Passport (Non-Electronic Passport): Application Instructions for Thai Citizens over 20 years of age

cheers guys - ill get an extension to her current passport by post, and then we can worry about a replacement on our next trip to thailand....

    i would think there's a possibility that we'll be back before 2010 :o

  10. Hi - My wifes passport will expire Feb 2008, so I should start looking into getting her a replacement...

Has anyone here had any experience with the whole process - and if so please advise, how much, how fast, how, how, how etc

is it true that my wife will be able to carry her old passport to show her ILR status, as I have heard that to have this stamp transfered to a new passport would incure some ridiculous financial punishment.

the other option would be to make a postal application for an extension of her existing passport and get a new one next time we're in Thailand...

    your thoughts please

  13. intrestingly from my work PC here in the UK my trace was complete in 9 hops - with nothing higher than 6ms

    this is not a virus

this is unlikely to be your modem / router

your first hop address will always be to your ISP

i would call your ISP explain the problem, have them test, but more importantly ask them if they can give you an alternative default gateway address.

i would guess that the problem is most likely to be that a bit of hardware at their end has gone tits up - you will efectively be given an address via your ISPs dhcp servers which will also assign you to its default gateway for that block of addresses.. you'll almost certainly not be the only one having trouble

please update if this gets resolved

  14. you could set up a local admin account, and set the password to "never expire"

if you cant run the scheduled task without a password then you will need to set passwords, is there some reason why you dont want any passwords on this machine?

the alternative i guess i to add the script that i posted earlier to the startup folder in you or your sons profile, better still add-it to

    "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup"

the only problem with this of course is that your machine will go through this drag each time someone logs on... if you leave your PC on all the time no probs... if not it could get a little boring and create you more hassle than its worth.

  15. TP sorry to hear your news.

I work in a Hospital, and would advise you to first speak with your fathers GP - or whoever refered him for the biopsy. Secondly I would wish to speak with the Doctor that had been dealing with your father at the hospital. All hospitals will have some form of complaints department, ours here is called Patient Affairs, and this is the first place to lodge a complaint. At this stage when the facts are clear to yourself and youve got both sides of the coin, as it were, i would pursue getting some legal advice on where to go next.

In the meantime, your fathers GP should have been able to make an urgent referal for you father to have further tests on the NHS... i wouldnt go private straight away unless you feel that the NHS really cant offer you the service they are supposed to provide. As you say - same doctors, different office - in some cases its same doctors same office but there you go.

  16. best of luck for the op and wishing you a speedy recovery - ive got 2 discs gone in my back - happened when i was about 25, 31 now and still getting trouble from time to time, so can understand what youve been through.

    all the best

  17. as long as the meat is thoroughly cooked - it shouldnt make too much differenc, as long as its not weeks old etc

ive eaten raw meat (pork and beef) in some issan dishes but wouldnt make a habit of it... this can lead to worms in the gut - particulalry from uncooked pork - but cooking through will remove even these

its a tough one - as you say, theres no guarantees how fussy your average restaurant is about sourcing its food

when im staying back in the village i tend to eat fish that ive seen pulled out of netted areas around the banks of a lake - not the half-dead ones you see flapping around in an inch of water at the market
