You are putting all Thai's in one basket, and they are not all the same, and I am not saying give them all your money just help them if they need help in these bad times.
vandeventer, I support my wife up country and I think things will get worse for thai people if jobs start to wobble as they tighten their belts. Most thais in the villages are on a slim budget buying their small requirements each day.

Its quite clear that this man resorts to violence as retribution and not getting what he wants and we know what he wanted that night. Throw away the key. RIP that poor lady.

Not being nosy. If you can afford storage, go for it. Your vehicle should not sit for extended periods of time, however.
If storage price is an issue, you will likely regret selling everything.
Try LOS out for a year, then decide.
Just got back to my home in UK after seven months in Thailand with my wife.
Flat Battery, flat tyre and rear wheels siezed. ( chock the wheels) Handbrake off.
Thats how important it is to keep your options open.

Politicians love taking away freedoms and liberties. They hate returning them. Especially mobs like the Thai "government". Expect this to drag on for a good while yet.
Thankfully for them, Monkeypox is on the way and they can lock down again for that.

Once again, we see the "Blame the farang" and "Farang pay" mentality on the slightest justification.

Nice little advert. Sadly lacking on anything interesting or useful or journalistic skill. Come on guys, you can do better than this! I was expecting some useful tips on becoming an expat in Thailand and a "to do list" to learn from. Most of us here expect better. Please...
Agreed, maybe a 'what not to do' list would be more interesting.

67,000 driving around with no licence is a pretty terrifying statistic.
What's the deterrent? Points on the licence is a non-starter. A ban on driving clearly won't work. A slap on the wrist? A small fine? A now don't do it again, there's a good fella?
Impound the vehicle and irrespective of whether the driver is the owner or not, charge a very, very hefty fee for its return.
Up here in NE of Isaan the kids all go to school on motorbikes and never wear a helmet. Too young to get a licence. My partners two daughters among them. Of course the Police just let it go.

Was this guy sleeping on a sun-lounger or a towel on the Beach, or what? I struggle to believe it was unprovoked and random like that... just not the nature here.
He was a regular sleeper on the beach seating before it was all refurbished.

Mind you, she could'nt visit the toilet.

Some years ago I was sitting opposite Soi 8/9 near Police St'n.
When a bouncer walked over to the beach and proceeded to give a sleeping farang a kicking. It was totally unprovoked.

As the sun goes down in the village the dogs gather in packs running through the village here in Isaan. They fight and chase motorbikes etc. I have never seen someone walking a dog on a leash.

I've walked through to Bali hi a couple of time recently. As you say its a mess. Areas of the paved rd just patched with concrete. If they actually repaved the whole street it would only be dug up the week after.

Forgot to mention currency fluctuations. In a small economy with high foreign currency reserves, anything can happen. Baht usually inches down—then breaks your heart by vaulting upwards. This can make financial planning a challenge—especially if you’re on a fixed retirement income.
In the case of UK retirees thats really is a fixed income statevpension. It will not go up when they know you live in Thailand.

Guys if you had a business that was a ROARING success for the last 50 years solid......What would you want to change about your business?
My guess is about 99.9% of you would want to change absolutely nothing...
So why this fanatical focus on changing tourism?
Really why?
It seems since 2014 the goal has been to kill success stories, where ever they are found in Thailand...
Lets give a shout out for that female Minister of Tourism who who wishes to throw cold water on tourism and thwart the ambitions of many thai ladies who wish to escape the rice field and meet a farang.
Once more thankyou, Kobkarn Wattanavarankul.

Life on the roads is a crapshoot. Yesterday returning from Suvarnabhumi Airport, I watched as cars drove on the shoulders where they are not supposed to, and right by the RTP cops sitting at the gore points. Then after stopping for the Red light as I prepared to exit at Rama 4 Rd, I watched as over 100 motorbikes queued in the roadway in front of the red light they were supposed to be behind, again right in front of the RTP traffic box. As my light turned green to go right and as we all, the many cars behind me, proceeded to turn right, the motorbikes all took off going straight from our left and into an around all of the turning vehicles, who had the right of way. Just to my left I watched as one of the motorbikes hit the side of a Mercedes and as he went down was hit by more bikes and the pile up began. What a cluster. If the flicking police would do their jobs we would not have such kaos, and if the drivers and riders would obey the traffic laws we would not have the needles accidents and deaths.
The thai mentality never ceases to amaze me as I leave the peace and tranquility of a Temple complex here in Pattaya to try to cross the road on a zebra crossing where the red light means nothing to drivers or motorbike riders all wearing masks but no crash helmets.

Perhaps doing the opposite, and letting it into the country may be be the right thing to do to get the world back on track.
We will know soon either way. It is coming.
When will the world get back on track ? We are led by politicians everywhere who revel in the fear and control they have over us. The UK is sliding into into lockdown for no legitimate reasons.

Fortunately, I'm getting s booster jab now before flying back next week. It really is the thin end of the wedge and says everything about what they think of us.

Check on what Kobkarn Wattanvrangkul has said about Pattaya. She is a Sports and tourism minister.

I would not be surprised if they canned this reopening until next year, It certainly cannot be 1st November, nothing will be prepared in time, egg on his face again instead of the Pad Thai.
That'll be another flight, insurance and visa application down the toilet.

I get it that Thailand doesn't want to give free health care to long term visa holders. What I think they should do is add fee to visas or visa extensions and and put visa holders on the government heath insurance scheme. You get treated like everyone else, and that's what happens if you have an accident or you don't have money. Most farang, if given a choice, would pay at the private hospitals anyway.
My daughter did a study on Thailand's heath care for her Masters in Canada. The Thai health system has a focus on stopping problems before they happen, and is surprisingly cheap and effective. Patient outcomes are similar to the private and military health system at a fraction of the cost.
As allways with all these requirements the thai government would'nt spit on you if you were on fire.

He just announced the death of Tourism in Thailand. It's over.
He's far too dumb to realise it just yet but that realisation will come, probably some time in January 2022 once everyone who's conned into coming here realises that it's one of the worst places to go for their winter trip.
RIP, final nail, etc, etc.
You need to go back and look at what Kobkarn Wattanavarangkul the Sports and tourism minister has said. She has wanted to do away with the party scene in Pattaya. A puritanical zealot.
Suspended PM insists his term in office has not yet expired

Why won't this man step back as he promised with dignity and get the thanks for his part in the history of Thailand.
