It would be highly unusual for a group of Thai people to attack a foreigner. Extremely unusual. Might there be something else going on here? Some bad blood?

It does help to be courteous and respectful to the locals. And a smile and good cheer goes a long ways here.

Agree, IMHO Unlikely to be a spontaneous decision.
Surely there have been earlier misunderstandings.

Reminds me of an occasion where I was waiting for food to be cooked. There were four orders ahead of me, and one order after mine. After a few minutes number 6 in line started screaming <Where is my Food> <I come here all the time> <Why is my food not ready>.

Yes you can do commercial flights

many years ago I was flown to Europe, as I was bedridden, for treatment, c.q. operation.
flew on commercial flight, was carried on and off by airport staff, including at a stopover and change of planes. (only time I entered the plane on the lift of a catering truck 555) One accompanying person sat somewhere nearby.
Stretcher occupied 6 or 8 seats, do not remember.
That was at the time charged as 7 (or 9) seats plus ground transport-ambulance , not hundreds of thousands.

Having said that, I did not need a drip or other medical care during the flight.
Just a double vodka and a sleeping pill .

The insurer would have to prove that alcohol was the root cause of the accident .

Just the fact the insured has been drinking is not enough for the insurer to deny the claim .

Some companies use wording meaning :
alcohol level above the level allowed for driving. car,
moreover, self inflicted injuries and negligence would be excluded.

  4. Financials of WRLife LLP,  that holds the Insurance Licences, are Public Information.

    https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/OC401682/filing-history

that is better than some much larger Companies that register with Non-public registrars off-shore.

in 2021 there was reported revenue of 990.000 GBP.
also, some interesting movements 300.000 in/out (looks like balance sheet extension to me.)

The Company seems to have gotten some traction in revenue  in 2021. The business model is good, but to create credibility is a challenge when fighting for your place in a market dominated by companies with very large customer bases, known brands, deep pockets, and large reserves)

( WRLIFE PARTICIPATIVE LTD seems to be holder of agent/broker licenses only)

5 years ago or more the question itself was more valid.

These days its somewhat of a no-brainer.

The Xiaomi 70mai a800s dash cam came on the market.....

    - Forward and rear facing (4500 baht)

    - Easy purchase from Lazada

    - Incredibly easy to self install (plugs straight into a 12v port), wires can easily be self run under the - upholstery (or can self wire with a fuse tap).

    - Small enough not to be obtrusive under the rear-view mirror.

    - Front Cam: 4k (140 degree)

    - Rear Cam: 1920x1080 (130 degree)

    - Clear night vision / recording

The cam handles the heat (no no issues).

Sticks to the windscreen (with 3M tape) and stays there.

I know people have different views... but if in the market for a reliable and quality dash-cam there really is no need to get anything else other than than The Xiaomi 70mai a800s unless price is a major concern in which case compromises will have to be made on quality and reliability etc.

Moreover, the Xiaomi does not have the annoying and distracting live-screen.
We fixed them behind the mirror to the windscreen, and almost invisible.
    Read from mobile phone.

Hmmm.... I was always under the impression that only a judge could grant bail, but not individual police stations. One learns something new every day.

    From an earlier report:

"Relatives of the tourist policeman turned up with 200,000 baht money to bail him out but this was denied."

Looks like the earlier offered bail amount of 200,000 wasn't enough for Bang Yai police, so it had to be "re-negotiated" to a cool million per suspect. As always, money talks.

I wonder how much of these 2 million will actually go into state coffers.

When I bailed out a friend, I had to hurry because the office processing the cash payment and related documents closes at 5.00 p.m., but then again, that was not in the Capital.

  7. ... Run ...
bit cynical but this could happen:
    a) no title deed: no rights.
    b) 5 % shareholding in a company that likely will make a loss in year 2 : no value as the real estate is squatter occupied apartment units. (liquidation value say 60 % of construction cost of say 10.000 / sqm.)
    c) if company incurs debt, the 5% will be holding a share in the debt, but it is a limited company so no regress on the shareholder, hence you would not have to repay the company's debts, but will be expelled once the company bankrupts.
However, you can then bid at auction on the development, as there are no separate title deeds and, thus, the property will be offered as one lot.
    ... faster ....

Soon it's cheaper to use rouble notes for toilet paper based on exchange rate / toilet paper price.

8 rolls of toilet paper 4,29€ or 0,536€ per roll. One roll has 153 sheets = 0,0035€ per sheet. At the moment one rouble is 0,0066€. Not yet but maybe next week? Shame that it does not have Putin's pic on it.

But hey, who cares, Unionpay to the rescue!

    Not funny,
during a previous Rouble collapse, I have seen cleaners washing such bank notes so they could afford to buy food.

I just wonder how he had residence here and moreover had control of a not inexpensive MC. Is refugee really the right word in this case?

whereas wealth is not usually assumed in a refugee, as demonstrated by the people bombed out of their apartment blocks in Ukraine, some people flee a country for reasons of personal safety related to religion, political activities, conflicting economic interests, and so on.
So, yes, whereas probably 99 % of displaced people that we see as refugees literally only have the clothes on their back and the will to survive, there are also people with more financial assets.
The person referred to in the article is not further described, so the refugee-statement could be an assumption by an overzealous journalist not involved in fact checking.

If we had decent follow up reporting news services, they would investigate and report back (drunk, money problems, mental issues, relationship troubles, etc), instead we get half a story which leads to many board member's favorite pastime; speculations, conspiracy theories, innuendos, baseless assumptions, etc.

also, one would expect a comparison to statistics in home countries, thus relaying an informed opinion rather that a click bait with no journalistic value.

I will say that we've not actually bought any masks for x years, well ever to be honest.

The local village office just keep delivering them for free, along with gallons of hand sanitiser (and rice + other "covid supplies"). OK the rate of supply has diminished recently but we are likely good for 2022.

Our village head is a good man and spends his budget wisely, hence the solar street lighting (zero running costs) and some CCTV. I'm not going to begrudge the fee of 300 Baht a year for garbage collection (twice a week) and other village fees.

we don't get free face masks, but instead a free wake-up call at 6:30 on non-working days ????????

Thais go in state quarantine too.

Up North, have seen a break-through case of a triple vaccinated guy who was required to stay at home.
He stayed a-sympthomatic, and after two weeks and a few tests was relieved of the obligation to stay isolated.
Family was staying in other place during those two weeks.

It seems the strain on the health system got too large to require all infected to stay in Hospital.
Therefore the rather rational and reasonable approach of home isolation was chosen.
Inconvenient, but understandable and thus adhered to.

  14. if the owner does let his authority be challenged by a puppy,

then he should probably think really hard whether he should own a dog.
And if he chooses to own a dog, try really hard to think like a dog, or at least understand how a dog thinks.

There is a huge difference between a play-bite accident while playing with a pup, and a deliberate bite as described here.

some good stuff on the internet, DoggyDan comes to mind, has great introductory level material that I found to be rather well clarifying how to treat a dog, and how to establish your authority, whenever challenged.

The logic behind it is clear, and starts with the behaviour of the human like a human, as opposed to like a dog pack leader, when interacting with the puppy.
