  1. I agree..Dunno what Uber will charge you also they take cash.Taxi mafia is the worst outfit ever..Soi Nana and Sukumvit..One reason why I never go there..Don't even think about it.I rather get on the BTS and get off at some station where they are not around..There's to many legit taxis anyway that always hits the meter.Good luck to Uber in Thailand..They seem to be having problems like the US dept of Justice on grey ball app.Liken to that old Allen Parson's tune...Eye in the Sky'....

  2. Bernard Trink...   akas 'The Stickman' years ago complied a massive  true confession on line report   of Farang /Thai marriages .Horror stories from Farangs whom brought back spouses to home countries..Very pain full accounts of what went wrong..Very few were lucky to last...Miy own experience was a absolute failure.

Took me years to pull out of tail spin of  failed relationship that ended in divorce.I suffered years after..Life is suffering they say so true.. Good luck to all.

  3. Thank you ima_farang.... for insight into visa info ..its super helpfull.

I see  on the old  Thai E  consulate form  box TR is not  valid..Going for the 90 day looks like my path..I hope the 90 day is just as easy to get as the old TR with many stamps in my passport which I have to renew  no pages left.

  4. Thank you elviajero    I will get the  setv first then with the money in 5000 in bank go for the metv next trip after the setv is up.

Or Siam Legal way.I have been in/out Bangkok for over 20 years  on TR's and 30 days..had enough of home country pulling the plug ..down the line marriage or 0 visa.or retirement visa when funds are available.

This life is a adventure..Looking forward to all these  jumping through visa hoops.I am from USA.God Bless

  5. Grab Taxi ..I want to try them from the down load  Grab app. when I hailed from street ..cars were newer clean..driver knew where I was going.A bit more in thb but worth it.Only thing there is a 10 to 20 meter taxi 's coming down the street every 5 minutes that are so easy to get into.

  6. I have a cheap Samsung Big C' 800 thb on AiS cell phone.Works great..AIS cheap .Battery last about 6 days..

Unless its raining or odd hours.. holidays ..always see herds of metered taxi with red lights on cruising in traffic.Bangkok taxi fleet around 120000 +?Most meter taxi rides for me from 60 to 120 thb.I do modern art and have to get around ..printers..photo labs..shopping..etc lunch.

Made a good  taxi friend whom lives about 1 block from my place whom likes regular dial up customers. All I have to do is make a appointment.Someday I may upgrade phone . I spend about 300 thb a day on meter taxis  3 or 4 rides a day.No problem..I have yet to see a Uber logo  ..just GrabTaxi.ps   ..The sec .guy will do back flips getting me a taxi at my bldg. for 20 thb tip..Not bad..

  7. Strange over 160000 meter taxi's in Bangkok rolling down the streets and these new tech app. cabs sprout up like Macdonald's KFC' 7-11..etc..

Whats the point? I mean look at the taxi cue at Chat-tu-chuk or Central Lad Pharo on weekends tells a story.Good luck to the TNC's ..No brainer.

I think I will try Grab Taxi just to see how it works. TNC's are very popular in Californiacoffee1.gif

  8. Bangkok taxi's are some of the best in the world..very inexpensive...

Fleet of appox.180000 cabs 24/7 looking for fares...Yes in certain area's of the city it is a problem these guy can be very cruel...I think if you rub the driver in Thai the right way he will convey and turn on the meter..Its a big city with non forgiving hard traffic...Be polite say thank you and please plus try to give the driver the address and cross streets in Thai ..helps big time..Take care....a retired farang cabbie.clap2.gif

  9. It's a big call..Some friends of mine have done well and are depressed just thinking about going back. Yet its not a perfect world anywhere. Some friends of mine here or outside

of Thailand are in to deep and cannot pull the plug. Some of the reasons of not burning your bridges are family homes jobs health problems fear of living in Thailand and going broke etc. Also after you made the move its impossible to move back because its so expensive back where your roots are.Cost of living is a huge issue.Where I am from its scary...We are talking about 2000 usd's a month for rent .In Thailand my rent is about 350 usd's a month. That is one reason for me to burn my bridge. Its something I will have to face one day.I wish anyone that makes the move best of luck..
