Yikes! makes me nervous as I'm arriving in 10 days--always buy One way tix and clear the hurdles...get my 30 day stamp and extend that--then head to laos for the actual double visa and extend those for a 6 month stay > or <..
Anyone see any issues with my approach as I dont want to come with visa and lose those free 30+ days..... ??
I do realize its a gamble as leaving the states without a visa has raised a few questions at the airport one way tix
Purchase cheap airline ticket Phuket to Kl for about $55 before arrival. Throw away if not used.

Only if he does not have a ticket out of the country within 30 days.
Before leaving your country, book an online special low cost flight from Phuket to KL (about $USD75 - more or less) and throw away if not needed or change of plans.

If you follow your #12 rule you won't be in a crash..
Personally I wouldn't go so far to claim that but I would hold that "expect the unexpected" would minimise the chances of a crash.
Just IMHO after riding (and racing motorbikes in my younger years, of course) for 50+ years.
As watso63, post #57 said "experience, awareness and anticipation" is a definite survival technique.

"Drive"? A couple of comments about that. I always thought that you ride two wheelers.
I've done that for 50+ years, have I got or done something wrong?

Motorbike is indeed something for men with balls...
"Motorbike is indeed something for men with(out) balls..." - in the event of an accident.
11) NEVER assert your legal rights when riding. In a crash, you lose.
12) Always expect the unexpected.

Day 20. 04 May. 196 km
I rode south from Hoi An today before a right onto QL14E. This leads up to the HCM road, here I turned right and enjoyed a wonderful ride through the jungle on mainly very good roads.
When I got to QL14b I left the HCM road and headed back towards Da Nang and then Hoi An.
From this junction there was not one sign for Hoi An all the way back, it’s incredible how bad the lack of correct sign posting is. It seems to me the people in charge of the signage need some educating.

Should not be too much of a problem if you have photocopied, beforehand, all relevant pages from your "lost" passport. An 'emergency" passport issued from your embassy?

In the past I always traveled from the USA on the simple visa exempt method. Several times I was pretty sure I was going to extend and had either an open return flight or a flight 60 days after my arrival. Never had a question or issue. Of course unless they asked they would not know what my air ticket reservations were. The "system" didn't seem to do any automatic checking of arrival/departing reservation checks.
Just buy a cheap throwaway flight from Phuket to KL. That way you can satisfy Immigration and still retain some flexibility with your travel arrangements. Has worked for me in the past.

What price range for accomodation? What interests you about Thailand/Bangkok in particular?
Try typing in Google Search "Bangkok to see or do" - it will give you some choices. When you have a list perhaps come back here and ask other readers opinions.
While you are doing a Google search, also type in Bangkok Resort Hotels.

I don’t think it’s the guns, I think it is a fundamental breakdown in respect for authority and personal responsibility.
I agree wholeheartedly.

Cut with the 'karma' crap - not everyone believes in that. It is for the individual to choose - not for someone else to give/label with.

"QUOTE: the government of Thailand has intentionally bolstered the presence of Thai cuisine outside of Thailand"
Another pronouncement out of cloud cuckoo land?
Many Thai restaurants, (in western countries) are operated by Filipinos. Speak a little Thai to them or look for photos of King and Queen - that will be a clue.

The same thing happened to me and more.
I stay here on METV's.
On leaving Suwannaphum and flying back to the UK, the IO is going back and forth in my passport tutting and shaking her head. This display goes on for so long (about 3 minutes) I am forced to ask in Thai politely, "Is anything the problem?"
The reply was, "Where you visa?" in poor English.
I replied in polite Thai that I had a visa and I had not overstayed.
The reply in poor English, "Why you no visa?" "Why you go Laos?"
I replied in polite Thai that I had a visa.
"Next time you visa," was the next shot.
I replied in polite Thai that I had a visa.
She finally stamped me out and I left.
There were no repercussions.
Well done!
She picked on the wrong person.

The basics remain the same WITHOUT the mouth to mouth.
Apparently recent research has shown that mouth to mouth is not of much help and just to continue with chest compressions until patient recovers, or is defibrillated or para medics have taken control.

OK, thank you everyone, and yes I carry some guilt over this. How do I recognize the good ones from the bad ones though? I appreciate your education.

You could be right. Apparently there are still many replacement brake pads containing asbestos on warehouse shelves, even though asbestos has been banned in brake pads since the mid-1980's.
Advice given to me by a friend who is a long time motor mechanic/service technician.

If you are the proud owner of a flagship Mercedes AMG C63, you will be told by the dealer brake squeal is normal. Funny about that - I've never had it on my 1989 Merc.
Change of brake pad materials from asbestos, I would suggest. Happened with my Toyota Camry.

OK, long story short: I've bought a Honda and I must pay for it 5 years. The company is Honda Leasing and the period of payment 5 years.
Question is (for those familiar with Honda Leasing): during these 5 years, who pays for maintenance, me or Honda? ie oil change, parts replaces etc.
Ummmm......................you didn't check the Contract terms before you signed?

My (British) GP here in Thailand recommended Aldara 3% cream, but said it was unavailable at that strength in Thailand.
Can I ask whether you got your Aldara in Thailand and, if you did, where you bought it?
Aldara source from outside Thailand.
