They missed Colombia !

Saw one on Ninnemanheiman Rd about a month ago. In between Soi 4 & 6. Same side as Kaseam store. Looked to have 3-4 machines. Couple of young backpackers (ladies) doing their wash. Haven't been on that side of the street lately so not sure if it is still there

Pardon my ignorance But where are the UFO lanes ?

Try "Perfect Blend". Worth the cuppa. Nice ppl. Good tasting Joe. Chan Klang rd. Past the Night Bazaar and Si Donchai Rd. On the small soi near the Bank of Attahtaya. (Yellow sign). I am a good friend of the owner but have no interest in the place

Stayed at Town Lodge 3-4 X's in the last 5 years. But not in the last year though. Decent price. Rooms clean and well appointed. No elevator though. I used to get in on the late flight into BKK and trying to get a couple of bags up 3-4 flights of stairs (although the front desk girl-all 45kilos) tried to help it wasn't much fun.
Some guys like having the nightclub dowstairs (Toxic it was named) I never used it much. Nowadays I think there are just better choices for the bhat IMHO

You may be liable for custom duties if you have them shipped to you in LOS. Could be very expensive ! Easier to buy them in the US and bring them over with you

As a card carrying "Chiang Mai ex-pat" you are hearby forewarned. Be scared, be very scared of us !

Pretty simple. does your friend have a phone line ? TOT ? If he does go to Central Airport Plaza and sign up for their MaxNet service. 550Bht p/month

I have purchased the regular Thai language computer courses……… But as you guys know they are not city specific. I live in northern Wisconsin USA and do not have anyone locally that speaks Thai.
Prior to my arrival in Chaing Mai this winter I would like to learn how to pronounce some local street names and common destinations. Would someone be willing to help me out? Obviously my goal is to not become fluent in the Thai language….. But be able to at least get to the night market on my own. My guess is that if I know 40 or 50 streets and destinations I will be just fine this trip.
Stewart
Got to agree with pj clarke on this one. Giving a Thai a map or naming street names is mostly useless. Major destinations. Wats, other tourist spots, petrol stations (yes, I know that sounds strange) they know.
Have you been here be4 ?
Computer language courses ? Hope you didn't spend a lot of money on one. This language is tone specific and I found unless you can actually listen to a Thai, or a dam_n good teacher, they weren't very helpful.

who carrys a weapon in thailand?
what do you carry ?
ever had to use it?
why? ( do you feel safer?)
what are the legal ramifications?
any advise on perosnal protection type self defence weapons?
any postive/negitive storys ?
I always ,(after age of 16 and when coming to the opinion that one has to have something to even the odds against criminals )carry a concealed folding blade in my life i have never pulled it in anger
there are a few times perhaps I pulled it too quick
there are a few situations where I have been able to stop trouble from starting ( here a taxi driving grabbed a metal rod intent on beating some guys butt, but decided not to when he saw the steel)
and others where i can thank having a weapon for good outcome for the good guys
SD
first you say you have never pulled it in anger then you state you pulled it to quick !!??
I moved to CM to avoid the danger of big cities and the lack of weapons carried by the everyman. And the peaceful nature in general. Let me know where you hang out so I can avoid those places

Hi , Anybody played at the Chiang mai Highlands and hired the golf clubs and shoes.
Just wondered what make the clubs are and the condition in which they are in.
Thanks
Had a friend come up last month and rented clubs. Nice set of Callaways if I remember correctly. Shoes not so sure. He played in sneakers. Cost was 6-700bhat

If anyone is living here or has lived here in the past, can anyone tell me anything good or bad about Doi Ping Mansion near the river. I am a 50 year old American male, and I guess I want to know if it is quiet, safe, and a good place to stay long term.
Thank you kindly
Joe
Joe
I rented there from 2002 to 2005
A nice 2 bedroom on the 6th floor
Haven't been back since though
Good side IMHO: Location excellent-close to everything
clean, decent maintenence, fair prices
Bad side IMHO: Location (One way street-mostly school hrs-)
When schools let out it is crazy with traffic
Mgr (don't know if she is still there) was a Bi**h
had a hard time getting my deposit back
No security whatsoever
GF had her motorcy stolen 2X
Had one friend rent a studio there for 5 years and she liked it

Had a drink at Bar 360 the other night. Pretty small place and service was iffy. Hopefully it will improve
Ninamanheiman Rd Soi 5-7, I believe. The small soi that runs parallel to Ninamn..
Nice views

Thanks to the OP for an informative post. We need more of those here and less personal opinions of the world as you see it

I second the advice on Jas. Have know her for a long time. Very patient lady
Sorry to hear about Gr Valley. Here in CM, new owners-Summit Group-they are trying . Had planned to come to Pats to play GV there this month. Guess I will avoid it.

KH--All I can say is
Well done !

The Royal League played our usual at Highlands yesterday. One member got a call with the same info. 5 caddies killed or seriously injured. I looked today at some Thai publications and the GF looked last nights news and there was no further info.
Sad news indeed

Some very good suggestions here:
http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Parents-Comi...it-t299429.html
I think within this forum there is a wealth of ideas for you and the spouse.
btw... This Houston boy has been to Dallas and "Old Warsaw". Excellent place :-)

As many ppl already said said rest is the answer
I just went through 2 months of it. Anti-inflammatories certainly help. Ice, then Tiger Balm, then ice, then... You get the idea
I play golf 3-4 days a week and squash thrown in also. Took me longer to heal :-(

Thanks orang ! I had one of those moments today. Looked at the smiles of the 2 youngsters I was hanging with today doing simple things. Especially when they were talking to their Mom. Priceless.
Here in CM I see those smiles more than anywhere else I have ever been

I second that link. I have no interest except he is a good friend. Excellent reputation

In Houston, Tx. there is a rest/bar names Naam Khao. West side of town. Owner is a lady who also owns a bar in Washington Sq--BKK. After dinner hr stops the tables go away and Thai music gets turned up and the dancing begins. On the weekday nights the usual card playing and gambling can go on till all hours of the night
