  1. I see a rise in cancer even within my own thai family who primarily eat seafood. I have a pause of concern of whether these issues are also related to the fukoshima nuclear power plant consistently releasing their radioactive contaminated water into the oceans....not to mention the smog of all the cars belching their oil (hydrocarbons are a known carcinogen) contaminated smoke into the air because of lax controls.....
  2. For my Retirement Extension in Phuket, I nearly fell over. Luckily I picked a date just after Xmas, there were hardly any people there. With the correct paperwork, I was out within 20min, the same the next day, handed my ticket to the guys outside, and got my passport back inside 10min, then another 15min to get my re-entry. Kudos to the Phuket Immigration, an entirely different experience I've had for years :) Well done!!
  3. You gotta be kidding me, the pot calling the kettle black. They're all the same and paid handsomely for it too...
  4. I for one, have never used an agent, most of the time, it's at the very most a few hours of messing around. Yes, have to endure the IO's bad temper, but most of the time, I feel it's the people always showing up not prepared that causes this. I certainly wouldn't want a job of facing people showing up in singlets and see through swim attire where it's clearly stated to dress appropriately, then have someone messing around with lack of paperwork. They do a tough job facing person after person, day after day. I'm not condoning the bad tempers, but being Thailand as it is, they probably have the worst job going to be honest.
  5. Thankyou all for your comments, at least it gives me a starting point and a few ideas to think about.
  6. Not sure, usually AAC blocks are a mixture of components with air bubbles creating the insulation
  7. This is just an initial fact finding mission
  8. Would using a double brick (standard and cheap) with a foam fill work just as effective?
  9. Or, has anyone built with the idea of using a double brick idea and filling the gap with foam for the outside walls?
  10. I could go the way of double bricking with a cavity, but want to find out if there's anything better. The house designs around here are crap for what we need, simple is enough, but insulating is a priority
  11. Not at all, I'm looking for best insulation, and from what I've been reading, the AAC blocks are pretty much the same construct, but prices vary between the manufacturers and their comes with the complication of local builders not understanding how to deal with these particular blocks. I have zero expertise in this type of construction and looking for advise that's all. All I know is, if I go ahead and build something like this, has got to be better than using the usually useless local bricks which just makes a house so uncomfortable, it's a dread to live there. All these local designs / building materials seem to be just a look fancy, living hell, so looking into other possibilities really...
  12. I'm looking to build using the cheapest AAC block I can find in Phuket. Has anyone done this? If so, can you list suppliers, also I'd need a builder/company/house designer experienced with dealing with this type of material
  13. I would like to endorse WRLife as they have come through with a claim. They are indeed fair and trustworthy and adhere to their ethical approach to insurance for everyone, many thanks to Patrick and his team for the help.
  14. Luckily, the thai government will step in with their new insurance scheme for charging 300baht for every foreigner coming into the country.
  15. The most pleasant way via land is go to the Andaman Club for a day trip https://www.kbv-visarunphuket.com/phuket-visa-run-andaman-club/
  16. Load the page up on Microsoft Edge, it'll detect the thai language and translate to english for you.
  17. I presume that's a new one again? I already had the google app for that, but trying to put in my login details into the one posted doesn't work? So there's two databases running around??
  18. Why worry, just sell it on an exchange outside thailand??
  19. Can anyone advise, my passport is in Bangkok (for work purposes), but I need to fly up there very soon. Can I use my driver license as ID at check-in?
  20. Not sure whether all the immigration offices are doing the same across the board, but my "under consideration stamp" is now pushed to 8 weeks rather than the usual 4 (Phuket). If yours is due to expire just after you leave, then just go and do the renewal a week before as normal, then you get a single re-entry permit valid up til the "under consideration" report date. You only get one 60day extension, so advisable to keep that in your pocket for a real emergency, also consider that pushing your renewal dates further out by 60days brings you into the horrible holiday periods for annual renewals where everything slows down...
  21. Haha, I remember those dang awful ding dong sounds when they went past 60mph, used to drive me nuts...
  22. I am in the same situation as you. No, you cannot get a WP on a retirement extension. The only two ways are 1. If you're also married, then change the extension back to 1yr permit to stay with spouse (marriage extension), or 2. Get a Non-B. Since you mention it would be for different companies, then this option isn't the best as a specific company has to sponsor the visa.
  23. To stop the taxi ripoffs is pretty simple really. Like they do in Singapore, integrate them into very apps they so hate, so even though they don't get to rip off everyone, they can still benefit from the service, just cuts out the higher up payment schemes...the digital age is almost on them and they'd better change their views or go do something else...
  24. I checked and your correct for sure, I'll see about that avenue first if it comes to that. Thanks for the tip.
