From what I hear the going rate for what you do is around 13Kthb, so seems you are well set up.

Us on the other hand, even though the cars and house are paid for, on average get through more than 1.2Mthb a year,,,Golf/holidays/ medical etc etc. and that doesn’t include if we change a car. So bringing money in through WISE for us is the best way.

We have never been back to the UK since we left in 2007. Often thought it would be nice to visit May-June or June-July but guess never will now.

Maybe others would be interested to know who these no-fee credit cards are with… I read a lot of complaints about card charges……

Yes 12,900 baht I renewed my extension yesterday. We go back to the UK in 3 weeks until October 5th.

You have to have a UK bank account, a decent credit rating and obviously a UK address. I have 2 cards. The Halifax Clarity Mastercard and The Barclaycard Platinum Visa card. Both use either the Mastercard or Visa exchange rates which are excellent. I manage the accounts via their apps and pay monthly by direct debit. No foreign transaction fees whatsoever. Easy if you can get.

Frankly surprised posters have been so understanding.

If you have researched for couple of hours you would be well aware of non O retirement or marriage.

Non O-A is not best option currently and also moving forward.

    You state this .....

"I am about 4 months out from making my retirement move from the US to Thailand."

A non O-A would be foolish idea.

    Suggest you do more research..

    Wow a sensible response

Early every month I bring into this country a sum of 65,100thb from the UK using WISE.

Every year Nonthaburi Immigration asks me to prove that my pension is at least that amount.

How stupid of them,  do they think MrsJ can survive on that….

Its such a flawed system. Because I go back to the UK for 4 months or so every year I choose to keep my money in my UK bank account. I pay all my shopping bills and most restaurant bills on my no fee credit cards where I get the mastercard exchange rate which is close to the Wise rate. This means I need nowhere near 65k a month cash. I therefore use an agent for my retirement extension.

    That is not correct.

Come on then clever clogs. Explain. If its classed as an international transfer the bank book will show International Funds Transfer, FTT. If its just a local transaction it doesnt, it just shows transfer from a/c at another bank. These are not accepted. Unless you go through a complicated process to get it changed. Now give your explaination like you do on every topic.

^^ As I mentioned, it's not a concern right now, (because I have a WP, not a retirement extension).  I'll continue bringing in 65k+ each month and see whether I need to apply for a retirement extension in the future ????

It can come from any source transferred internationally. A pension is one example. If you are using an app like WISE to transfer the money, which is the cheapest method, the transaction has to specifically show it comes from abroad. WISE uses local banks to complete the transaction in many cases. Although the transaction originated abroad it doesnt count if its completed locally. Just be aware.

The STV was defined by london.thaiembassy.org on response to a query about Single entry Tourist Visa -  [email protected]

"If you wish to apply for a Tourist visa (60 days, extendable in Thailand) & see the documents required, please follow the steps below.

For the STV visa, please choose  “Purpose of Visit - Tourism - Duration of Stay No Longer than 90 Days - STV” (90 days extendable in Thailand). Please note that you will need to stay at a private accommodation for the whole period of your stay (paid for). We will need to see booking confirmation in order to issue you an STV."

Yes the first paragraph refers to the SETV and the second paragraph the STV. Simple. What is the confusion. I understood the embassy response immediately

There might be some confusion in the term STV - I am referring to Single Tourist Visa and I think you are referring to the Special Tourist Visa (STV) is available from 2 October 2020 to 30 September 2022, those who are permitted to stay in Thailand for not longer than until 30 September 2022 and wish to extend the length of stay with STV, must submit an application for visa extension before 30 September 2022.

Get your terminology right. Its SETV not STV, you confused everyone, including the embassy.

    Even better, stop the debate.

A handful of pearl clutchers want to be outraged by something which has no effect on their lives, and causes no harm to anyone.

They are ignoring the info presented to them.

Why waste anymore time on them?

An endless public discussion like this is not needed.

Yes they really are pathetic. I disagree that its outside the scope of the topic. The OP said its outside but only because he didnt qualify what he meant in the OP

It's supposed to be your money in that bank account/statement. I get why many don't want to have their own money sitting in a Thai bank account, and rather have it somewhere else making them more money. But to say that this "technique" of bank statements provided by an agent, of money that doesn't belong to you, is 100% clean, normal and legal, ethical, and so on... is entirely false. C'mon.

I said it is an official bank document supplied by the bank. Which it is, its not FAKE

You think bribing an immigration official to break national rules is not illegal?

Who is bribing an immigration official? They all welcome it they even let the agents in the side door. My photo was taken in full view of view of everyone, outside immigration, not underhand, just normal. The main retirement desk welcomes the agent, the high official welcomes it. Its business as usual. Even in the bank its just normal process. Whats your problem. Immigration doesnt appear to have one.

This is of course purely theoretical, has never happened, I don't want to scaremonger, just as information:

The extension (money supplied by agent) is based on forged banking documents, if there should ever be a crackdown and they check these documents, people might have their extension revoked and might be prosecuted.

Lol so naive its an official bank document, nothing forged about it. Where do you get that idea from

I don't think this is necessarily true.  Both Hubby and I each have 800,000 baht in a Thai bank and in the big picture of our finances, we'd rather just leave it there earning 0.5% interest and not be bothered playing games with a "dodgy" agent.  (We've learned that the word "dodgy" is Brit-speak for lying, cheating, etc")  or worrying about transferring money over each month, but rather when we need it.

Our agent in Chiang Mai charges 5500 baht above the gov't fees and for that they complete the forms, take our photos, know what color is suppose to be used this month for the photo background and document signatures, what pages of the passport have to be copied, get the bank documents, take us to Immigration (we're on different schedules for our extensions) and we go to a special VIP window where we peer thru the window at the IO and don't have to say a word.  In-and-out, little exposure to Covid.  Yes, I've heard that in CM, the agents have to pay 3000 baht for each customer to use the VIP queue, so the 2500 baht above the "fee" they pay immigration is well worth it not to be jerked around by immigration because we signed our names using the wrong color ink or forgot to take off our glasses for the photos we submitted.

Yes and we can only quote from our own experiences. What you have described I am sure happens a lot in Chaing Mai with immigration there. In Pattaya ie Jomtien its mainly as I described. It suits me and 100's of others to get an extension of stay via an agent. For circa 12,500 its all done. Nothing dodgy, its accepted practice at immigration, its an official stamp and eveyone is happy.

Doesn't quite pass the sniff test, if Thai authorities really were trying to put in place the requirement that farang long term stayers were financially solvent. But, if there are no losers with this wink wink, who cares.

I agree with you it doesnt pass the "sniff test", but the extension you end up with is perfectly legit. I only use this method as I dont wish to deposit 800k in a Thai bank or transfer 65k monthly. I use no fee credit cards when I am here for 7 or 8 months and only send cash over when I need it. Not a case of being financially solvent, its a choice.

Presumably, that's their 800k, not yours......? So, we're not talking about overriding length of time requirements, but overrriding the requirement that you have 800k available to you in Thailand. I seriously doubt an IO has the authority to wink wink this requirement, as it was put into effect to preclude too many indigent farangs wandering the sois.

Its 100% their money, thats the whole point of it and yes the head honcho signs it off.

We had the exact same problem. After changing out the pressure switch, check valve we had same problem. Son in law dug up and replaced about 2-3 meters of PVC coming out of water pump. The PVC was clogged with mud and since he replaced PVC 6 months ago the pimp has been working fine.

The water in our village can be really muddy when they have to replace pipes or other repairs. I have filter for the large storage tank but not when water comes direct from village.

    Ok thank you

  16. I know there have been topics on this before but I think mine is slightly different. My water pump turns on and off intermittently. I have checked everywhere no leaks and even shut off valves along the route. It seems to happen when the water pressure into my property from the water supply is low. When the water pressure is normal or high it doesnt happen. When its low it cycles every 15 seconds or so. Any ideas?

They definitely do it in Bangkok, because I applied there for an extension myself last year which has this note.

And thanks to Google I know that they also do it in Chonburi, here from two months ago, stating 2.4 (and the ผ30 lets us know that the person entered visa exempt), which means this was a tourist extension:

    1.jpg.c6bb6122bb08bc7269af6a7c39054434.jpg

But I also found this picture:

    2.jpg.ccb75ecdbb9dde6a7d2d0b9bf0904dc0.jpg

No handwritten number, but they stamped "RETIREMENT" in addition to the extension stamp, this should be equal to a handwritten 2.22.

No you are starting to believe your own nonsense. Yes on a Covid extension they will probably write something manually to let them know how many extensions the person has. The retirement stamp hss been done everytime I have had a retirement extension, nothing to do with this mystical 2.22.
