Given the recent issues with refusals of multiple tourist visas, what's my best strategy?

You have been given excellent advice so far and I am just commenting because I frequently cross the Mae Sai/Tachilek border.  Your best strategy would be to get a VE entry at Mae Sai, extend and then do it again.  If you do go to Mae Sai, immigration will not allow you to leave if they have no intention of letting you back into Thailand.  That means it's important to be polite and calmly answer any questions they may ask on exit.

do you do a 90 day report if youre border running every 5 months with the visa extension? also is it true that if youre on a muli entry O visa, and you border run alot, that you wont have any trouble getting into the country, like how sometimes people who constantly border run on tourist visa might get denied entry? is there a website you can do the 90 day reports easily? Is savankhet the only place you can get the O-visa multi entry w/o financial proof of 400k?

I have never had a problem re-entering Thailand, but I always do it every 90 days, except when I leave Thailand for a holiday.  Savannakhet and Saigon (HCMC) are the two options for a Non O without financials.

    Ubonjoe,

You are just about to give me a panic attack.

I am back in LOS, ( after living in Pattaya and C.M. for a few years and then in the U.S.A.) , with a new U.S. p.p. that I got in Saigon this year. I have two (2) visa exempt entries, with extension on the last one, in this p.p. Flew in to C.M. every time.

Now I was convinced that I could go by bus to Mae Sai and Tachilek and walk back and get a new visa exempt. This is next week I am talking about.  I understood that there were unlimited visa exempt entries allowed if by land in one year.

You said above there is a 2 visa exempt rule in effect now? Is that right?

Why did I not get a T.V. in the first place. ? I thought it was to much trouble and was not sure if it was going to be here of Vietnam that I wanted to end up.

He is referring to 2 visa exempt entries BY LAND per calendar year.  If you haven't done 2 by land this year you can, in theory, do one next week.  I go over the border into Tachilek often and have noticed recently that almost every time I go a foreigner is held up at immigration on exit (unless you have a visa for Myanmar, Thai immigration will not let you exit if they intend on not allowing you back in).  Please let others know how the crossing went by posting on this thread next week.  Good luck.

as already mentioned has anyone here on Thai visa  had their son /daughter sponsor them ?

    plus what paperwork is required

    regards

A friend is in the process of getting an extension by having his child support him.  Talked to him early last week after they had gone to immigration (several times) to finish the paperwork.  He was waiting for immigration to visit his home and interview the neigbours.  His daughter definitely had to meet financial income requirements although I don't know the number, but I will ask him.  He was receiving extensions for many years based on having a Thai child, but the immigration office he deals with told him that after 20 he can no longer do it this way.  Ubon Joe, I realize they are incorrect and I told him that, but...

I was denied a tourist visa today at Savannakhet as was the guy from Singapore before me.  The individual from Singapore did admit to me he did not have a bank statement and has used Savannakhet several times.

I had all documents, flight out of Thailand and bank statement showing $2200 USD.  A younger lady told me too many tourist visas.  I currently have 3 tourist visas from Savannakhet issued starting back in early 2016.

At the end I showed her another statement on my phone showing my brokerage account with about 300,000 USD and asked her if I printed it out if that would change her mind, her expression at first seemed like it would, but she stuck to her guns and would not reverse her decision.

i was a little surprised as I spent May - October 12 back in the USA and this was my first visa attempt since returning to SE Asia, but that point did not get me anywhere if the Consul workers.

Surprising, especially since you were in the U.S for 5 months before returning.

That is valuable intel. Air Asia fare to Saigon is comparable to the fare to Mukdahan, and would require one or two nights in a hotel instead of three.

What about the letter?  Does she write it in Thai and notarize it in Bangkok, write it in English in Saigon, etc.?,

It depends where you live in Thailand; some may find it cheaper to travel to HCMC or Hanoi instead of Savannakhet.  Be aware that the NON O Multi visa is more expensive in Vietnam ($200 U.S) than Savannakhet (5000฿).  My wife accompanied me to HCMC earlier this year and wrote the invitation letter in Thai.

Ok.. left BKK at midnight and arrived in Tokyo the following day. They gave me my passport at the boarding gate in BKK but there was no stamp on it. It's as if I never arrived in Thailand.

Japanese immigration guy leafed through my passport and asked me where I flew from. Pointed at the disembarkation card where I wrote BKK and showed him the boarding pass stub. Fingerprinted and got the 90-days sticker.

Will getting a visa at the Thai embassy here boost my chances of entry to Thailand? Or should I fly to Vietnam and get one there, then use the land border in Cambodia?

I was at HCMC last month for a Non O visa.  As long as you satisfy the criteria, HCMC and Hanoi are ok.  Hong Kong would also be a good option, it is one of the friendliest and easiest Thai consulates in the region.

    So again my opinion...

Your other 2 children were born in the US with a Thai mother and thai rights. However, since turning 20 they did not renounce their US citizenship and...

If they wanted to apply for the second nationality of thai, they would need to follow normal procedures including living in Thailand for 5 years and applying for residency.

Your opinion is doesn't matter, children with a Thai parent, who btw already held Thai passports, do not need to do what you suggest.

  10. Acenase, If you don't already know, up until very recently it wasn't so difficult to live here permanently even if you weren't over 50, married or working.

One year visas were easily obtained at consulates abroad, ED visas were less restrictive, double entry tourist visas were available at many nearby consulates and you could even get a triple entry in Bali.  If you lived near the border with a neigbouring country you could could go in and out indefinitely every 15, 30 or 90 days depending on your nationality.  I know many guys who aren't retired, married or working that have been here for years, who up until recently didn't have visa issues, but gradually things have changed.

You need to understand that if someone has been here for 10 or 15 years not easy to pick up and leave when the immigration policy becomes more restrictive.  That said Cambodia and Vietnam are awash with former expats who used to live in Thailand.

Thats 2 gone already plus 1/2 for the re entry. Leaves 2 1/2. Hopefully IO are neat. My friend did the same lightly marking 8 boxes in the PP per page with a pencil. He was told off by IO.

I also have a Non O multiple and recently lightly marked boxes in my passport because I have many previous pages that are only 1/2 or 3/4 full.  Did a border run a few weeks ago on the day my visa expired to activate another 90 day entry and politely asked the border IO if he could please stamp within the box.  He was not happy with this request, quite rude in fact and to make a long story short things escalated from there.  Happily Myanmar immigration didn't have an issue with stamping in the boxes I had marked out and in fact stamped me in and out in one of the pages at the front of the passport that wasn't full.

Is there another consulate that you can get it without showing funds even if it's farther than Savanakhet.

Hotel Hua Nam is the cheap hotel in Mukdahan that I stayed in last time.

But yes,I guite like my trips to Savanakhet. It's so relaxed there

I fly in with Nok Air and do my usual routine, hire a bicycle and have an apsolutley stress free time.

I've never got a marriage visa any where else but meet people totally stressed out from reporting

    at immigration.

Krobert6-- I fly Chiang Rai/Bankok-Mukdahan with Nok Air in one day for about 2500bht one way.The last step of the journey is by Nok Air mini bus.

Mukdahan is on the Thai side, you can still get to Savanakhet the same day or sleep in Mukdahan.

I then go to Mae Saai every 3 months and walk in and out of Burma and get another 3 months.

As said if you work your dates right you will get 15 months free with the option to extend for another

    2 months in immigration.

My question now is is Savanakhet the only place in the world where you don't have to show funds for a marriage visa or is it just the nearest.

Can get a Non O based on marriage with no funds in Ho Chi Minh.  The price is $200 U.S and unless they have changed policy, they only accept payment in U.S dollars.
