  1. What is it with Thai girls having their photos taken and holding up two fingers in a kind of victory salute?

Seen it here in China too so it appears to be an Asian quirk but do they do it with the same intention as Winston Churchill?  ..Or do they not know why they do it but have seen other young people doing it, holding their spread index and second finger next to their head whilst displaying a toothy Walace & Gromitt grin, and think to give it a go as well as it can surely only make a photo more entertaining to look at.  :o

I think it is copied from The Japanese girls, they all do it - means peace etc. unless behind your head, then it's bunny ears!! :D

  2. I am interested to know how you met your Thai wife (or husband)

The most common way (from a poll I held in London) was in a bar. The second was agency, the third internet.

I met my husband on the internet, just started emailing each other and etc. When he came to Bkk we arranged to meet up and....the rest is history.

    how about you!! :o

  3. I wish it would rain here!! Kuala Lumpur

the pollution is terrible, all hazey from burning forests etc, smells really bad and makes you cough a lot

just like any bar in Chiang Mai really, but you cant walk outside to get away from it :o:D:D

  4. Smoking is well known to cause and exacerbate various types of illness in our bodies. The tobacco companies are slowly being forced to stop advertising their products in the west. In Thailand and other eastern countries, the adverts are exactly the type that have been banned for years - namely connecting smoking with sport, sexual adventure and glamour.

When will our government ban these terrible adverts. The young people in Thailand are addicted and will become sick. So many smoke, it is a disgrace.

    Can anybody help??

  5. Yes, I agree Paul

It annoyed me when they were talking about the Baby elephant in Pattaya where "Hundreds of Thai prostitutes ply their trade"

Maybe not the exact words, but why do they have to bring it up in a story about animal welfare.

Apart from that, the report was pretty spot on. The way Animals are treated in the name of entertainment is pretty disgusting

Of course slaughtering millions of animals daily to eat is considered OK but when it comes to Zoo conditions people get excited about animal welfare, weird-peter

the program was about animal welfare, not vegetarianism

I also suppose that girl welfare could be considered relevant in that program, but was not reported on :o

  6. This is a very interesting post.  You ladies have my sympathy indeed and there are some really weird pervs out there!!!  But you know at the same time I'm trying to work myself out - will I be classed as a pervert if I appreciate Thai ladies more than Western?  - appearances-wise and not necessarily having been with one.  Would you (farang girls) not agree that Thai girls (and also other girls of Far Eastern origin) are very striking in their looks?

Anyway sorry for digressing from the original topic...

blimey, what nonsense that is!! I can understand some men preferring Thai women to Farang versions (being married to Farang myself), but the rest is a bit rascist really. Some Thai women are very striking, as are some Farangs. Some are ugly too, from each population, so stop the generalisation.

so you are not a pervert, but maybe a bit narrow minded :o

  7. Hi

I have had this(white dog) dog for a few years and always wondered what breed he is any idea. He is and was a natural swimmer and retreiver also very smart. Also in the Picture is a 3 month old golden retreiver which acording to the US golden retreiver web site and forum who I have explained the weather conditions in Thailand to have said that the dog should be put in A/C if it,s hotter than 30 deg ???. The dog was breed in Khon Kaen so to my way of thinking he should be acclimatize to the warmer weather. As for the people that want to complain about non thai breeds in thailand please dont bother

    Rigger

looks like he has a white lab coat on him

  8. :o G'day folks, I must say that this is a very interesting topic/thread.  When my wife and I visit the family in the Kingdom we try to stick to a budget.  IMHO I don't think there is anything wrong with being a bit fugal with ones money when on holiday, or even taking the family out to dinner or even living there, after all, money doesn't grow on trees, and the quicker the Thai people realize this the better Thailand will be.  Just because I am a Farang and can afford (because I've worked hard and saved), it doesn't mean I have to splurge it around.  Unless ofcourse one is employed by an American company and has an allowance as long as ones arm.  I also hate tipping (just another legacy from the US of A ) and like some one said " it's not compulsory. :D

I think Thai people do realise that money does not grow on trees!! You sound very patronising, and maybe a cheap charlie too.

As a Farang, you get a massive salary compared to most Thais, and any savings mean so much more in Thailand. Don't be mean, tip a little, make someones day happier.

  9. I'm a 43 year old American from Seattle currently married to a 24 year old lady from Philippines.

Although my wife is certainly no prude, she would prefer that I don't hang out in the bars to socialize.  But that is ok, she is absolutely stunning so no chasing girls for me!

I doubt CM is overflowing with married ex-pats, but I'm curious what percentage are married?  We'd love to socialize with other married folk.

    I am 100% married

and my wife is 100% married too

  10. I've tried the new location for the Pasta Cafe (Soi 5, Nimanhemin) a couple of times and have to revise my previously unfavourable opinion based on the old location on Nimanhemin itself.

I've enjoyed meals at the new one, which is much more spacious and inviting than the original 'hobby' resto. Good pastas and salads. Not as good a Da Giorgio (best in town for my tastes) but considerably cheaper and more relaxed, not as cheap as Italian Lang Mo but a tad better quality-wise and a step up atmosphere-wise - tho I quite like the casual atmosphere at Lang Mo for everyday dining.

Also there's a newish place selling pizza by the slice late nights, near the Rasta Cafe/Heaven Beach, etc. Not the best pizza around by a long shot (I haven't found any Chiang Mai pizzas to be all that special), but edible and convenient for that area.

    Please add your suggestions.

The Riverside. get there early before 8pm or you will wait a very long time. Fantasitic local food over looking the river. They also have a barge that goes out on the river to have your diner..live music also .very inexpensive....enjoy!!!

The riverside is nice enough, the Thai food good. But inexpensive?? not really
