  1. And Jazz, Rock, Blues, television, the internet, the airplane, vaccinations for most major diseases, windows, unix, apple macs, and many more things that people don't complain about.

    cv

well, some say that the first flight was by a Brasilian

some say TV was invented by a Scot

some say that most music comes from African roots

and the internet was English made

and there are lots more things people do complain about, whilst we are off topic :o

  2. Some people are intereted in how many posts members have made....I'm interested in how many smileys members have used...for instance....if you subtracted the number of smileys used by dr pat pong from his number of posts would he end up in the negative?......sorry...I'm not trying to pick on you personally........or am I....... :o .......thats my first one!!!!

I know Dr PP likes his boys in blue boots too much!!!

I also find it funny that people say the cruellest things, then attach a smiley, as if it makes it all fine again

like you are really crap :D

  3. Would someone please give a sitrep on the status of flooding now in Chiang Mai.

I am hoping to take the Mrs' there for a 4 day trip at the end of the month. Are the rains likely to have abated by then also? Cheers.

yes, all will be wonderful. No floods now. And no more rain, almost

    as forecasts go :o

    have a nice trip!!

  4. that reminds me of when I was in a group learning English, everyone had to say what they were wearing

    shirt, trousers, skirt whatever

not one person was wearing underpants/knickers!! :o:D

  5. Quote from Limbo:

"It takes generally about four or five years to understand that you don't understand anything about Thai culture".

This is very close to the way it is. To understand Thai culture you have to have been born and raised here. The farangs who think they understand are sadly mistaken. The longer I stay the more I realize how little I DO know.

Don't worry, the misunderstanding is mutual :o

  6. From his website www.idontgiveahoot.net

"Like him or Hate him, Trink is as much a part of Bangkok as the Temple of Dawn. When Trink first started writing for the Bangkok Post, the best way up Sathorn was by Row-boat. Since then, this column published exclusively in the Bangkok Post has been his prime source of income. Since he was, well, dropped, by the Post, many thought the column would be gone. But with 30,000 readers each week, Trink thought otherwise. We ask you to help support this column with a token fee, amounting to less than 25 cents per week, to help keep Trink off the streets and in the Bars"

He was dropped because he became very repetitious (?) and half the column was filled with old jokes and Burma ads

it is thought that he actually never went to the bars any more, just asked other people to let him know what was happening

he still had the occasional burst of magic, but not very often :o

  7. I just read through this post and there is somethings I don't understand

    1. why would anyone ask total strangers to help him make his mind up about something so personal.

there are so many unknown factors (as can be seen in the subsequent posts) that it is impossible to make any judgement

    2. why would anyone bother to respond - for the same reasons

The posts suggesting he grow up and make his own decision are the only ones making any sense. Oh, except for Bambina's flirting :o

  8. Its not me with the problem, its the newcomer scaredy cat guests. I like my big guy (hes the one in the photo). Whats a bit of toukay poop to bother me when he eats rodents and cockroaches???

Never seen that can of foam sealer, do they have it in Thailand?

My husband is quite good at catching the toukays, somehow pins them down and grabs them by the back of the neck. We have tried relocating them but obviously not far enough away as they keep coming back!

I remember staying in a beach hut; when we moved in there was a big hermit crab in the corner, still alive.

my hubbie took it out and threw it into the sea.

the next morning it was back in the corner :o

  9. I like this topic, so easy!!

my hubbie worked in BKk for 6 months, and the taxi drivers never understood the name of his hotel - Chao Phrya Park. He always had to get them to Ratchada then direct more. When they arrived, the taxi driver would exclaim "oh Chao Phraya".

He never worked it out, until I told him about Harry Potter

    Hareee Poterrrr

  10. If everybody in our world was an atheist, we would not be having holy wars.  No, we would be having wars albeit with a different reason

I'm not knocking religion. To each their own however, when fanatical religious groups try to shove their brand of religion down everyone throats and become violent in so doing,  then problems arise.

Today, these fanatics are blowing up families, ruining peoples lives for what? All in the name of "peace?" Give me a break !!!

Your "tolerance, awareness and understanding" is not going to deter suicide bombers from their killing spree.

They are not doing it in the name of peace!! they are doing it for the glory of Allah and their entrance to paradise. Mistaken and brainwashed maybe, but they believe it.

Tolerance etc should be practised anyway, despite the myriad fools who are extremist. There is no excuse to follow them just because they shout the loudest

  11. Don't hurt them, they are wonderful animals!! yes, they can be annoying, but so can humans who are invading their space. I bet they were there before you, so leave them alone.

and they do good for you too, eating bugs.

Usually though they are quite shy and dont like to be too near humans; try playing loud music, singing karaoke or vaccuuming the house.

you will then be exhausted and won't notice them. :o

  12. they keep coming back! Got the husband to remove them several times from bungalows but they come back. And it does appear to be the same ones. My husband doesn't like to kill them but short of screening the vented windows in the bathrooms (which is what I want to do) there doesn't seem to be another solution. What about mothballs? Do you think placing mothballs in the areas they like to inhabit would encourage them to leave?

Personally, after I saw a toukay eat a mouse, I am a big fan of the critters. They eat all sorts of nasty vermin, only problem is, of course, they poop everywhere.

oh never ever kill them, their ghosts will come back to haunt you

screen them out, should do the trick

they are so nice, it would be a shame to kill them just because they have no toilet training :o
