Ban all future Test cricket in England ! The chances of completing a series of 5 day games in the middle of the English summer is remote. A waste of time and effort for the visiting players and supporters. The constant rains mean the series are based on luck. Once the games are played in a neutral environment with decent weather and without 'pitch fixing' we will all see how bad English cricket really is .

Generally pretty good however the bigger issue is the poor state of the roads. Worse during rainy season.

It MAY be possible to exchange Kip to Baht /Dollars prior to leaving but (if you can) the Exchange rate will be very bad. Try to budget to have minimum amounts of Kip towards your departure. Easy to exchange $s or Baht on a daily basis to Kip.

Laos Kip cannot be changed to another currency outside of Laos

I went a couple of weeks ago. I paid with a new $US100 bill and received $US60 change. My friend who was a few minutes behind me passed over a not so new $US50 note which was rejected. I then handed my friend $40 (from the change I'd just received) and they rejected that also . When I explained that the $40 was the change they had just given me they reluctantly accepted it.

I think it's free for Thai's entering Laos. Visa on arrival (for you) is easy and cheaper than e-visa. Change some Baht to Kip at a Money Changer but make sure you don't end up with an excess when you leave.

Visa on arrival available for both land and air. E-visa available but more expensive. $U.S. 40 fee. Passport photo. No consistency regarding Covid requirements. Travel by land and they want to see vaccination proof. Travel by Air and no one asks for anything. Likely to be no Covid checks by the time you go.

You are a bit early. Lots of Hotels and Restaurants providing Christmas Dinners/Lunches but they usually start advertising around the start of December.

Easy to do... Visa on arrival .Bring $US40, passport photo and proof of vaccination. Takes 10 minutes at Wattay Airport. Entry paperwork will ask where you are staying in Vientiane,. Visa good for 30 days. Don't think your Thai wife has to pay the $40.

I went to Laos (via Udon Thani) 2 weeks ago and came back last week. Here i the travel info..... Udon Thani to Nong Khai- Mini-van from Airport to Friendship Bridge Nong Khai- 200 Baht ..leaves every hour. Book at kiosk inside terminal just before the Exit. Taxi available at call 900 Baht. Thai Immigration- Outbound- Passport check & stamp. Bus over the Friendship Bridge- 35 baht. Lao Immigration- Inbound- Go to window 2-acquire blank paperwork. Complete paperwork including passport,1 passport photo, Vaccination details and $U.S. 40 .Note- The new charges are $US 40 for all except 2 countries (China & Vietnam I think).Baht can be used but a worse exchange rate applies. Wait at Window 5 for your completed passport stamp/visa . Laos Immigration-Outbound- Present passport and exit form-Get stamped out. Pay 10,000 Kip for bus over Friendship Bridge. Thai Immigration- Inbound- Go to Ist Booth and provide Thaipass with Insurance & Vaccination Documents. Receive a printout from 1st booth. Proceed to Immigration for passport stamp and STRICT (scanner & Sniffer dogs) baggage check. Easy.

I am travelling to Laos next Tuesday and just realized I did not get a multiple-entry permit on my 'O' Visa this year. Immigration is shut until Tuesday and my flight to Udon Thani and subsequent bus to Nong Khai is too early to visit Immigration before I leave. Can I acquire a Multiple Entry Permit at the Immigration Checkpoint in Nong Khai before I go into Laos ? I don't want to arrive In Nong Khai to be told they can't do it . Any help is appreciated. A friend applied for Test & Go on Tuesday. He booked his 1st day on the 5th and second day on the 10th (thinking that this was 5 days).His application was rejected because his 2nd day should have been the 9th. He had to re-book his second day and wait for a new receipt before re-applying.
