@Sheryl Is away until about the 15th. I've tagged this post, so she will be notified about your question when she returns.

Thanks,  I think I will consider opening another post in a while to see if others can comment on their experiences.  Sometimes I think I can learn a lot more from the members here than from asking doctors and getting in touch with hospitals.

  2. Hi Sheryl,  do you have any recommendations for a hospital to go to for a face lift?  Would appreciate your advice as you seem to have a very good knowledge of medical matters in Thailand.  Also have you heard of Thermage laser?  I had one of those treatments a year ago on skin and upper eyelids.  Didn't really see much difference between before and after.

with only US$260k income you can't obtain permission to live in Singapore. in Greece and Italy the taxman would claw nearly 50% of your income! back to reality please.

Very true.  Unfortunately I many posters here seem unaware of how difficult it is to live in countries that have strict visa policies.  Money might buy a lot of things but it doesn't always buy people permission to retire in a country forever.

    actually that's not true.

there is Thailand Elite and some investment visas give the right to purchase 1 rai of land, etc. Thailand does not tax foreign income that stays abroad for at least 12 months.

Can you claify what you mean by

"Thailand does not tax foreign income that stays abroad for at least 12 months."

Hopefully some of the posters here will learn from this link.  Also a map of Asia might be a useful thing for those who are not quite sure what countries are in Asia ?

  6. Asking for a client who has a yearly income that's around £200K ($260K) coming in from the UK and who has no need to work in Thailand other than work out in the gym.   The guy has a wife but no kids is over 50 and is looking for ideas on where to live. He initially focused on Thailand but asked me to try and come up with some suggestions where else in Asia might be a better place to live.

If you had that income, no need to work then would you live in Thailand or some other place in Asia (must be Asia) and if so where?  When answering please also consider that it would need to be a place where he and wife could legally stay for an extended period of time.

  7. I am considering getting a retirement visa and I understand I can do this based on UK income. I'm already over 50, on a visa exempt in Bangkok now, have just extended that and will be leaving Thailand to go to Philippines in 6 weeks for a one week visit before returning to Thailand.

Has anyone been through this process recently and do they have any tips that they could pass on.

    Thank you.

  8. I hope this isn't too annoyingly off topic, but have considered Medellin, Colombia? It's becoming quite the popular expat destination and the WEATHER is much more pleasant than Bangkok and especially Panama City.

Thank you for your suggestion. I'm interested to hear about the weather in those three places. Can you tell me your experiences. I've been to Bangkok many times but not the other two destinations.

  9. I'm at the age of retirement and looking for a country to live in. I have been to most parts of Thailand and the kind of place I like is to live outside of a big city close to a modern shopping mall with easy access to an airport and hopefully clean air. I don't really need access to a beach.

Are there any members here who have been or lived in Panama City, who could give me some ideas about how BKK and Panama City compare.

    Thank you

  10. Hello, I'm trying to decide my options. At this point I would like to try and get a tourist visa before heading to Bangkok. From what I understand this would give me a 2 month stay plus an additional renewal. I will try to get the visa in the Philippines.

Can anyone tell me what would be my options after that. Where could I head that's nearby and that would allow me to get another tourist visa so I could stay another three months?

  11. I'd just like to be very sure before heading out to the consulate as I have a long way to travel.

Can someone please tell me what are the latest requirements for the single-entry tourist visa?

Also if anyone happens to have tried in Cebu then I'd really appreciate some advice about that particular office. If not then just the requirements alone would be a great help.

    Thanks

  12. The embassy in Manila will do a single entry tourist visa. They may ask for a ticket out of the country to get it.

There is a honorary consulate in Cebu where you may also be able to get one.

Thanks, I will actually want to stay for 2 1/2 months. Would it be okay to show them that ticket or would they expect to see something that showed I was only staying for less than 2 months?

  13. My formal education is irrelevant as i never proceeded what i once at young ages chose to study as time went by and our world and my view on life and mindset strongly changed,

I believe that along the way i have gathered some great knowledge skills interacting with many great minds whom all showed me one way or another coin sides of business world. Of course, there is tons more on that..But i don't feel it is the place to do so unless you can give me a good reason. By at the end of the day it does not matter. I have a healthy mind and i so far in life I been able do anything depending on the task I've tend to be on blast more often than not. smile.png

It sounds like you would be very qualified to start a successful business in Thailand.

  14. I am hearing from some people here that when I go to extend my 60 day tourist visa the office in Chiang Mai extends the visa by 30 days basing it on the day when I go to the office. In BKK they added 30 days to the date when the stamp expired.

So in Chiang Mai is it any different or is it just that friends told me wrong?

Will they add 30 days based on the date I turn up at the office or 30 days to the expiration date on the stamp in my passport ?

  15. Anything is better than Acer's crap

    Are you sure?

I went into the Lenovo service center a week ago asking if they could order me a new battery for my thinkpad. They said it would take 3-4 weeks to get. I said okay and then a few minutes later they came back with the answer:

    "Cannot order no stock"

I went in 2 days later to order a new power supply, they said it would take 3-4 weeks to order. This time they came back after five minutes and said:

    "Minimum order 50 !"

I have used Lenovo for 15 years but will never buy one again. The after sales service in Asia is the worst.

Apple Mac Book Pro will be fine for me from now on.
