  1. Waited patiently for my TV to arrive. Nothing came.

I logged on and NOW see a print out E appointment or collection on a print out asking me to supply more documents by post or in person ???

Does this mean I should have sent this print out back to the Thai embassy?

I never got any confirmation e-mail / phone call or anything. Much less asking me to log back on and do a print out and post it with more copies of the same documents.

    Advice please.

If I've lost the chance of my tourist visa ( I am NOT going to London for it) what are my best options to stay a full 90 days?

    Thanks

This thread is about extending a tourist visa in Jomtien.

I extended my tourist visa in Jomtien in December.

I was given along with the photocopies and documents I prepared 2 further forms to complete, a TM30 and a Facebook form.

Therefore I can safely say, from personal observation, the Facebook form is not a fallacy, neither does it hail from the distant past. It was being enforced by Jomtien less than 2 months ago. As for today, who knows?

    Okay.

i have to admit, I saw no-one today having to fill in forms like the one you mentioned and there were plenty of us filling in forms.

Yes, I do recall hearing about this initially in what does seem a long time ago.

But no mention of filling in anything like that today, for me at least.

    A completed TM7 form with a 4 X 6 cm photo attached.

Copies of your passport photo page, visa, entry stamp and TM6 departure card.

The will more than likely want a completed TM30 form also.

Thanks, Ubon. Your speedy reply was appreciated..

All done and dusted now. There was another form that I did not see but was filled in by the lovely girl behind the desk. I think that was the TM30.

  4. Congratulations to Naam for winning POTY. A worthy win.

Commiserations to Trans and VF who also deserve congratulations for their worthy contributions.

A second place again for Trans. That in itself is worthy of note.

A great shame so may votes were discounted because of the idiots attempting to skew the result.

Well done to the mods for their hard work and due diligence in this years POTY.

Good job all round, especially Ron who put forth a sterling effort and kept his sense of humour throughout.

And if nobody else is going to commit to doing it next year, I'll be happy to kick off/lead an effort to define the parameters and rules for next years POTY.

Better you than the last agitator poster to offer to do the job.

I think - as I said above - that ron has done a fine job.

Please make it shorter next year though, whoever does the job!!

  6. just some observations on POTY 2016 . . . . .

I think that thanks are in order for some.

Ron has done a sterling job as a Mod in this years POTY with a little help from other Mods in the background. With the odd growl and a few barks, Ron has generally kept us in line and done a great guard dog job of keeping the undesirables at bay.
I feel there has also been good work done in the background by others to try and keep the voting as fair as possible.

Guesthouse has been notable by his absence, though I believe there are reasons for that which were mentioned in the distant past of posts.

VillageFarang has been here with quiet aplomb and been able to keep his head above the water without creating too much of a fuss. He deserves our applause for this IMHO.

Naam and Trans have both had their detractors rearing their ugly heads with one particularly nasty incident being swiftly dealt with by the Mods.
Both have run their campaigns quietly without feeling the need for aggression and back biting. Well done to the pair of them for being able to do so.

Generally a much quieter and more peaceful POTY in many ways.

Whoever wins at the end of the day - Congratulations to him.

And there was I, about to inform the BBC and CNN that the POTY contest has quietened down on the run in ........

    Good job I waited!

Wishful thinking for this to die down.

The knives are out in some quarters hoping for a final deathly thrust into the nether regions of some.

Why not! There's no end to things we don't know about the past of well known posters, some were choir boys, many are ex-special forces, others were axe murderers, apparently large numbers are escapees from the funny farm, we could have polls for each category, imagine the excitement.  :sleepy:

The rampaging lunatics, mad axemen, cherubs floating about singing heavenly songs with the ex special forces trying to blast everyone....... and the Baht bus queen driving round like a headless chickien bipping his horn at  everyone

Sounds great, just like 'The Pub' forum section.

As was I I, with my ruffle and cassock and two pennies per service.

That was then and this is now.

Oh boy...... will we be having Choir Boy of the Year poll next?

    :shock1:

you bet your sweet butt. Klingons are like wine. if you don't believe me ask my wife.

A bit like vinegar then? Great on fish n chips but not on much else? Unless you are a Klingon and mix it with those wonderful dishes you eat. :post-4641-1156694572:

    Only joking, Lord Naam.

You might guess I am not  a wine drinker. A bottle of Nuclear Brown Ale does me as well as cider. Wine and champers... yuk!!

But then I am maybe more primitive than a Klingon

No, not at all, but cockney is a spoken dialect is it not? I was just curious. I didn't know it was cockney, because I've known many people with cockney accents but they usually make an effort to speak proper English when interacting with other English speakers.

Fings ain't wot they used t'be. ( part of the lyrics from Max Bygraves)

Generally, I use my own dialect when speaking to my native countrymen. When speaking to those from other countries I tend to make more of an effort to speak so they can understand me better.

One of my best friends here comes from Dorset and sometimes his rolling R's are great to hear as is his version of 'English'.

Then there is the Brummie with his strong accent too and many others from all over the U.K. with their accents.

    What is proper English?

Our history shows we have a language made up from many others be they Scandinavian, Norman,  French, Scots and many others.

I'm not talking about Th'nglish. It is a word you use regularly. Why? You come from the country of the mother tongue do you not?

Fink being more of a London word, I see nothing wrong with it.

There are many idiosycracies in the English language depending on what part of England you are from. Makes it part of our rich linguistic heritage.

I make a generalized comment about the contest based on my own observations and private comments made to me and you turn around and attack me personally.  Nothing passive about that and it speaks volumes about you in my opinion.

I am saying this year will not end with all the negative feelings which have tarnished past events.

As many of us know, there has often been a lot of negativity in past POTY and posts aimed to degrade others or trying to be negative about them.

this was starting to happen here too until certain posters dropped out of the posting.

VF's comments are quite correct as far as I can see.

I like Filipino people, but if they are working here on the cheap, that means folks from Issan and elsewhere cannot work those jobs for a decent-wage.  And where do the foreigners' wages go when paid?  How much is sent out of the Thai economy in remittances to foreign countries?

This country is the only place on Earth where Thai people have the right to live and work - and they should be able to find work without someone sneaking in and undercutting them at the jobsite, then siphoning their paycheck-money out of the Thai economy, undermining local businesses.

The right of people to have their own country should be respected.  I wish I had a country to call my homeland, but anyone can come in to the place listed on my passport and take citizens' careers away from them - so I don't.

And how many of these Issan women and other Thai are going to be able to teach English?
Granted some Filipino English teachers might not be brilliant at their jobs but they are a better option than an Issan woman with a spattering of English and no qualifications at all.

How many of these Issan women will work as maids / nannies, living in 24 hours a day 6 days a week under the conditions many Filipino maids work under? How reliable do you think they will be and how many weeks would they last before leaving?

If there were so many reliable Thai to fill these jobs don't you think the employers would employ them?
