  1. Thank you for that. Yes, I think Imperial World is the place for him. I'm pretty sure that those from the 3 neighbouring countries entering as migrant workers can't get service at CW.
  2. It isn't for me. A bunch of my staff are going to a wedding of another staff member in Savannakhet. One of them is from Myanmar and therefore requires the re-entry. His extension of stay isn't processed at Chaeng Wattana and he doesn't know where he can get a re-entry permit in Bangkok. Does anyone have experience on where Myanmar nationals can get a re-entry permit issued in Bangkok?
  3. Can Thai Immigration issue a re-entry permit at the bridge? Or is it necessary to go to Immigration in Mukdahan? Thanks in advance.
  4. The right of a foreigner with PR to buy a condo without bringing the funds in from abroad is written into the Condominium Act of 1979. Attached is an English translation. Chapter 2, Section 19 contains the relevant clause. Condominium_Act_BE_2522_(1979).pdf
  5. In case anyone else has this question I can answer it now. I just renewed 9 months early and it was no problem so now it is valid for 5 years, 9 months from today. I guess it can be renewed up to 12 months early which would explain the 1 + 5 years that you can get on first issue.
  6. Does anyone know how early the 5 yearly renewal of the red book can be done? Can it be done several months before expiry?
  7. Does anyone know whether the Autochannel gates at Suvarnabhumi are working for PR's again?
  8. Unfortunately you can't simply switch a cable modem with another one without the MAC address of the new modem being provisioned by the TRUE network centre. Without them doing that it won't work. It is quite a few years since I had cable internet from TRUE so my recollection is a little rusty. However what I do recall is that after sourcing a cable modem from overseas (because it wasn't possible to buy one in Thailand) I then learned that TRUE would not under any circumstances provision a modem not supplied by them. The only solution was to have the modem put into bridge mode. The standard modem that they provided wasn't capable of bridge mode but they were prepared to swap it for a Cisco modem that was. They sent an engineer to do the changeover and he then called the network centre to have the Cisco provisioned. After that it was up to me to connect whatever router I wanted. I'm pretty sure that after a cable modem is put into bridge mode there are virtually no configurable options since there are no firewall/Nat/ports/TCP-IP etc. to configure. All that is then handled by your own router.
  9. I believe that having SS coverage might well be a big advantage. I would outright refuse to pay for any private quarantine on the basis that I am already covered in exactly the same way as a Thai citizen likely would. It is the hospital doctors that make the decision whether or not to allow home isolation and once they realise there isn't a satang to be earned from detaining you the chances are very good they will allow you to go home. Of course that is assuming you had no or only mild symptoms.
  10. You don't need a physical card (which are no longer routinely issued) to apply for Thailand Pass. Go to: https://ssoconnect.mywallet.co/ and enter your SS number and mobile phone number. If you don't already have a wallet app on your phone then just follow the instructions on the above site to install. You should then see a screen like this; Take a screenshot of that and upload that as your proof of insurance for Thailand Pass. I know it works because I have done it and there were no issues.
  11. It is true that the labour laws do not distinguish between a PR and a non-immigrant however in 2018 violating those laws as an employee was largely decriminalised. Whereas previously the maximum penalty was 100K fine and 5 years imprisonment it is now a maximum of 50K fine and there is no imprisonment. https://home.kpmg/th/en/home/insights/2018/08/tax-news-flash-issue-44.html https://www.tilleke.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/IC-May-2018-Relaxation-of-Work-Permit-Requirements-in-Thailand.pdf On the other hand section 37 (1), Chapter 4 of the 1979 Immigration Act says the following; Section 37 : An alien having received a temporary entry permit into the Kingdom must comply with the following : 1. Shall not engage in the occupation or temporary or employment unless authorized by the Director General. or competent official deputized by the Director General . If , in any case , there is a law concerning alien employment provided hereafter , the granting of work privileges must comply with the law concerned. The maximum penalty listed in Section 75, Chapter 7 is; Section 75 : Any alien, who fails to comply with the provisions of Section 37(1) shall be punished with imprisonment not exceeding 1 year or a fine not exceeding 10,000Baht or both. Chapter 4 of the Immigration Act covers aliens granted temporary permission to remain (non-immigrants). Permanent residence is covered in Chapter 5 and makes no reference to employment at all. Therefore I believe that a non-immigrant caught working without a work permit violates both the labour and immigration laws so can potentially be fined and sent to jail whereas a PR can only be fined.
  12. Yes, it has peaked here now and started receding which is a bit earlier than I was expecting. I think tomorrow and Monday will see some flooding in parts of Bangkok. Then it will make the news.
  13. We're gonna have a new high today. Now at 7.45am it has already passed previous levels and here there is still another 2 hours of incoming tide. Today the sea tide is 3.8M and tomorrow it will be 4M so. Not a peep from any Govt agencies of course. Lol
  14. So today the river level has reached a new high for this year though where I am it is only about 3-4cm higher than the 10th Oct when I posted these photos: However the high tide this morning is about 20cm lower than it was on the 10th Oct so obviously there is more water being released upstream. Of course a 1cm increase in the tide doesn't necessarily equate to a 1cm increase in the river level but where I am it seems to be pretty close to that. 2 weeks from now, on the 7th Nov the tide will be 40cm higher than it is today so if the downstream flow remains constant (or increases) we will be getting pretty close to 2011 river levels. As usual there is little reliable information coming from the government about what we can expect. Obviously they cant accurately predict future rainfall but they do know the volume being released from the Chao Phraya dam. There used to be a (Thai language) webpage which showed the current release from the dam but I can't find that anymore. Does anyone know if it still exists?
  15. Today, Sunday 10th Oct the river has reached it's highest level so far this year. The level is very similar to the peak in 2010 but still well below 2011. I am a couple of km north of Nonthaburi Pier where the river is approx. 250M wide. For reference to the level compared to 2011, the water then peaked at about the neck of that lion like creature in the last photo which I estimate is about another 70-80cm higher than now The water is on the way down now (11am) and the high sea tides start going down starting tomorrow so maybe we have passed the worst of it though, as I recall, in 2011 the peak level was reached on about the 25th October. Obviously it will depend on the amount of water being released upstream. As I understand, the water released from the Chainat dam takes about 3 days to reach Nonthaburi/Bangkok.
  16. As you can see, it is actually called "Covid-19 Certificate of Vaccination" but there is some confusion in the terminology because one of the documents required for issuance of this booklet, which is issued by the whichever organisation administers your vaccine, is called "Thailand Certificate of Covid-19 Vaccination". But anyway it seems to be commonly referred to as a "Vaccine Passport". The book is primarily intended for travel so can be used e.g. as proof of vaccination to enter Thailand under the sandbox program or for entering some other countries although it remains unclear exactly what document may eventually have worldwide acceptance as proof of vaccination. There is some confusing information out there about how and where to have the certificate issued in BKK and it is almost impossible to reach the MoPH by phone these days so having just completed the process I thought it may be helpful to others if I recount my experience here. I had it issued at the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute nearby the Ministry of Public Health in Nonthaburi. If coming from downtown BKK it is pretty easy to get there. Take the first Namwongwan Rd exit from the expressway then turn left into Tiwanon Rd and left again into Tiwanon Soi 14. The institute is then on the right hand side of Soi 14. I found a car park quite easily but that was at 6.15am and it would likely be more difficult later on so a taxi might be a better option. Here is a photo of the required documents list. They have a queue limit of 160 spots/day and start issuing the queue numbers at 0630am though they don't start processing documents until 0800am. My wife had hers issued a couple of months ago and warned me that by 0800am the place was full so I was there early though it seemed less busy the day I was there. However going later in the day there is a risk that you won't get a queue number. One of the required documents is what they call an "electronic boarding pass" when what they really mean is a flight booking confirmation for less than 3 months in the future. If you don't have that you can use your imagination as to how you might get one. I think they would accept almost any format. It is probably on the list just as a way to limit the number of applicants at any one time. Upon arrival at the Institute go to the main entrance of the main (front) building. The information counter is immediately on the left side after entering which is where the first document check/collection is made and queue number issued (starting 0630am). Then proceed further inside to the seating area in front of the main counters where they will call your queue number (starting 0800am) and return your documents to you with instructions to go to the 5th floor waiting area. There your queue number will be called again, documents rechecked and you will be sent to another counter to submit the documents to a clerk that will hand you an invoice with instructions to go to the 4th floor cashier to pay your THB50, get a receipt and return to the 5th floor. Soon after that you will swap the receipt for your new vaccine passport and you will be asked to check the that all the details (name, passport number, vaccine batch/dates etc.) are correct. In my case they had spelt my name incorrectly so you do need to check. Make sure you have all your documents returned to you and you are done. I was finished by 0845. The above is a list of other places also issuing the Vaccine Passport. However I understand that the one at Suvarnabhumi Airport has now closed indefinitely. As for the other two, sorry I don't know the current status. Finally, there is also an online option for submitting your documents. However you will still need to go (or send a messenger) there with original passport etc. and the soonest available appointment for that is a couple of weeks away. If you're not in a hurry that may be a better option. http://vpassport.ddc.moph.go.th/index.php
