  1. i am following another thread here on tv in the immigration section " waiting for court " about a guy who bought a dog, give it to his wife, then seperated from that wife and went to her house and took her dog only to keep it safe, now thai wife has went to police and is prosecuting him for " stealing her dog " this story to me smacks of injustice against this bloke because he is " farang" he has to pay lawyer 200k to represent him in court plus he is on bail for 150k.

now, if this were a thai guy , would the same justice be meeted out ? i would say not, he would probably pay wife or cops a few hundred baht and walk off into the sunset.

has anyone else any stories such as the guy in question, seems grossly unfair for any farang to have to be subjected to this kind of injustice through thai courts simply because they are not thai.

i hope this thread will not be closed or removed for whatever reason by any mods, its a truthfull thread and is only intended for anyone to share their stories and raise concerns that we are feeling that farangs are not given a fair crack of the whip and are continuously being demonised and treated unfairly " in a lot of cases "

by the thai authorities simply because they are " foreigners " or simply because they think we have " more money than them "

i for one am sick of it and have had enough of it in my time here in the land of smiles.

  2. It seems like the OP spends all of his waking hours trying to think up new ways to bash the Thais. As usual, on aI haven't experienced any of this "Thai aggression" that he speaks of daily basis. How do guys like this survive in the real world for so long?

" haven't experienced any of this "Thai aggression" that he speaks of daily basis."

you havent ? you want to try live with my x wife for a few weeks.!! the most nasty aggressive human being i have ever come acrooss in my entire life. off course it was good at the start,, the sex i mean .

  3. the farang looks completely innocent and defensless against these attackers. i can see him doing nothing wrong. its the usual way with them but of all the thai men i see in my country they are scared of guys their own age and size on a 1-1 .

cowards ...... for the most part. you see and hear about this behavior all the time in thailand.

  4. i witnessed yesterday outside r-con hotel and corner bar on soi buakao. songkran had just started around 1pm, it was a laugh to see some people hated to be soaked but all took it in good humour ( i used to actually hate songkran ) but yesterday it was funny for most part.

then i seen an elderly thai man get off his motorbike shouting at a young foreign guy, foriegn guy did not bite back but walked away, i thought nothing else of it but 20 minutes later the cops arrive in pickup with lights flashing, dumb <deleted> thai man points to the farang guy and police take him and also the boss of the bar away from the crowd. a little while later one bar girl who works in the bar started telling people the thai idiot started to punch the farang guy in front of police , btw the farang was obviously on steroids and did not look like some fool. next thing the 2 of them were put into back of truck and taken away.

now , why to hell did this old fool go get the cops , he knew full well not to go into soi buahkao if he did not want soaked , everyone got soaked including me. why did he feel the need to go to police and why did the police even bother to listen to him, maybe he was some kind of hi so big boss ?

one foreign guy who was blind with the help of a thai woman got by and everyone left him alone and respected the fact the guy was blind. also a young girl from 7-11 walked by and laughing showed her badge to say she was in uniform at work and needed to get by, again everyone respected her wishes.

would love to know the outcome between the elderly thai idiot and the farang guy.

  5. That translates as: Not my concern or I do not know much more than what I care to know while I really do not care to learn or make any effort to know or learn anything about what you want or what you are asking for....so they say: My Mee.

Just joking in part but usually if they do not know they simply say : My Mee

When Thai People are asked about something if they do not say: My Mee, then Thai people are also well known for commonly saying:

My Lou ( I Do Not Know)

My Sap ( No Idea )

My Die ( Can Not )

My Ow ( Do Not Want )

My Bi ( Do Not Want to Go )

    My Coy ( Never )

    My Kow-Jai ( I Do Not Understand )

My Lroo Rlueng ( I Do Not Understand the Story Concerning This Conversation )

My Coy Hen ( I Never See )

My Doo or My Mong ( Did Not Look )

    My Sohn-Jai ( I Am Not Interested )

My Lrou-Jack ( I Do Not Know About That: "Thing" or "Place" or "Person" )

My Chop ( I Do Not Like )

My Yom ( I Do Not Accept )

My Coy Hen ( I Never See )

My Tum ( Will Not Do )

My Set ( Not Finished Yet )

    My Hen Doo-Way ( I Do Not Agree )

My Jai ( I Will Not Pay The Money )

My Lrack Koon ( I Do Not Love You )

My Mee Ngun ( I Do Not Have Money )

My Jai Ngun ( Will Not Pay The Money )

    My Ah-Rloy ( Not Good Tasting )

My Kin ( Will Not Eat )

My Dee ( Not Good )

My Jap ( Do Not Touch )

    And there is more..

You will hear a whole lot of "My" this and "My" that..... all the time ....so better get used to it.

    Cheers

Ooooh you know a lot of Thai.

    Then there's

    Mai cheu

    Mai tahm

    Mai yahk

    Mai Lak

    Mai Ow

    Mai Bawk

    Mai Yoo

    Mai Didt Tdaw

    Mai Fang

Plus My Sharona. Actually pronounced M-M-M My Sharona.

555+ made me laugh , good one cheesy.gif

  6. we will start off with 2 cooks a day 9 hour shifts say 7am - 2am. or 1 cook to do 12 hr shifts then if she is busy she will open more. headaches have started allready with thai so called builders.

also we discover no water in there and gf has been onto government waterboard to sort it out asap. sourcing cookers is a nightnmare, seems buying new is best idea, numchai have double drinks fridge 23000 baht new, somchai acoss the road is selling old 2nd hand ones for 19000.

  7. Sukhumvit road for your equipment I would say, I have noticed several Thai places making the canopy's ect , there is also a place on third rd near junction this Pattaya Tai with catering equipment, the big place behind BigC Festival for cutlery and plates small equipment , condiment sets glassware and possibly tables chairs, thats where i would go

thankyou donnybay. i see the chef today to see if i need to buy the big double stainless steel cooking range with hood or if i can get away with a couple of gas burners 4000 baht each from a place on sukumvit and a small hood for 6000.

  8. ... And try to do a No Alcohol restaurant ...it will make it unique and cops wont disturb you wink.png

Many Thai's like beer with their lunch and dinner so being booze-free could mean the OP's girlfriend having a uniquely empty restaurant on Buakhao. Getting an alcohol license is cheap and easy. It's not the cops that check on licensing anyway.

beer leo 1 bottle from makro 47 baht sells for 110 baht , 50 customers per day = profit 3650 per day and per month 109500

50 small leo selling for 50 baht, daily profit approx 1000 and per month 30000

bowl pad kapaow with an egg and rice. cost to make 15. selling at 60 baht. based on 50 plates per day 2250 and per month 67500

bowl tum yam gai , cost to make 15 sell at 70 baht ( ususally sells 80-100 baht ) 55 baht profit , per day 2750 and per month 82500

bottle nestle water cost in makro 4 baht each selling for 15 baht, profit per day based again on 50 is 550 per month 16500.

based on only 50 customers a day.......... yes optimistic but ive sat and watched these other 2 resturaunts and they are turning out 150 plus customers plus per day easy. the guy across from lk metro took over 100 customers in 2-3 hours the other day , i sat counting in the bar opposite.

hospital staff obviously will not have a beer the beer is based on the foreign guys who want a cheap place to eat on buakao. hospital across rd with staff number around probably 1000 or more and other hospital next door is opening soon so that is main reason for me to be optimistic about this.

ive seen guys on tv being put down for opening a laundry, guys abused for opening a bar so if we are all fools we would all be living in mud huts eating grass wouldnt we .

  9. What STYLE of Thai restaurant? How big is it? Where exactly will it be.

You will need a lot of advice but without the basic information above, all you'll get is the red ar5e from this lot

thankyou, your right, i knew you were right even before i made the post . water off a ducks back after years on tv.

girlfriend and family will run this place, after i help oin next few weeks i will walk away and wash my hands from it . it for her only.

so back to basic questions , where to buy cookers , frideges , tables and chairs etc in bkk or pattaya ???????????????????????

  10. I'm not going to tell you not to do it, because you have already made up your mind.

What I will tell you is when it comes to Thai food, you need to keep your overhead as low as possible. The overkill I see when it comes to Farang we want things to be real nice this does not mean the place needs to be a dump. One of my favorite Thai food places, outdoors, clean, service is fast and food is fresh and reasonably priced. The place is pack daily from the moment it opens at 10am to the time it closes at 4pm. I believe this place clears easily 30,000 baht a day. Does not even have one commercial equipment using coolers with Ice delivered daily.

If you are looking for 2nd hand stainless steel equipment there are a few on Sukhumvit, here is one for sure.. heading North just past the New Home Pro,, start to slow down there is one on the left.. you will see all the equipment on the sidewalk. First I suggest you go to a new store like the one near Tony Gym on 3rd Road. From Pattaya Tai going down 3rd Road past Tony Gym it is on the right. This will give you a comparison of new and old. What I have found is they want high prices even of old stuff so you need to know the prices.. Your Thai Wife/GF, will need to use their skills, play hardball even if you have make them think you are going to walk.

Don't get too fancy.. the objective first is not to show off but to bring them in and make money.

    THANKS

i think i know the place your talking about on soi buakhao across from lk metro ? this place is buzzing day and night. we have both sat and took account of how many customers this place is turning and yesterday alone within 2 hours there was approx 100-200 people in there !! i have watched this place for a year now , i have seen 70 people in there with another 10-15 outide queing up to go in and even people coming for takeaway. this place is making good money for thai standards, this place does not even have any big hotel or hospital close by only beer bars and gogo bars .

so hospital staff will be enough in my view let alone 1000,s of thais and farangs who are staying in nearby hotels. 99% of all my friends in pattaya all love thai style food, all love to go to a place where they can get a decent plate of thai good and a cheap beer. most work offshore and spend lots of money here on holiday so cheap charlies they are not

  11. 40,000 baht rent

How much is the electric bill going to be? Is this an open air restaurant or closed where you need to run the A/C all day?

    Water Bill

    Trash Bill

2 cooks one for day and one for night? Really? How many customers can one cook serve? People won't want to be waiting around. What happens if you get 20 customers? The 20th customer is not going to be very happy waiting as no Thai's usually are.

How many servers do you need to hire?

Who is going to clean the place and wash the dishes?

Where are you going to supply all the restaurant food? Fresh vegetables, meats, etc.

What about takeout boxes and things of that sort?

How many baht of inventory do you expect to invest to get the place going for food, drink, dishes, glasses, paper products, pots and pans, silverware, etc.)

You are probably looking at needing to generate 100,000 a month to break even

Now do the math with that number.

Is it a restaurant aimed at farang that will pay 200 to 300 for a dish or for Thai's 35-50 a dish?

How many seats does your restaurant have? Can you even fit the number of people inside needed to break even?

The biggest mistake every failed restaurateur makes is over-estimating the number of expectant customers with no market survey or real facts.

thankyou for you advice one of the first with some sense on here, ok the location is perfect right next to hospital, soi buakhao on main road tens of thousands of foot traffic both ways every day, hospital staff alone will be enough to keep place up and running i hope and i think but yes maybe im wrong and maybe i am being too optimistic but should i not try to suceed or just throw the towel in ?

girlfriend has many years expirience in resturaunt business. her family are coming to work also and her dad is a chef.

high volume with seating for around 60 people at anytime.

very very busy foot traffic on main road. 2 way street. probably the busiest street in pattaya next to walking street at night.

no other thai style resturant close by

4 very big hotels within 100 metres

the food will be basic thai style with a decent menu.

staff are getting rooms free of charge which is a massive bonus to any thai worker.

wages for staff will be decent.

no hi - lo season as other businesses in pattaya need to survive. thais need to eat everyday

beer will be served and will be kept at a reasonably cheap price such as 50 baht a beer.

business can open day and night.

its not going to break my bank to open.

farangs on a budget will eat and drink here . as i often do myself . in 14 years ive never once been to a high end resturaunt in thailand so this place suits many.

i think ive said enough. so where to source equipment and more staff . thats the question.

    THANKS

  12. ive decided to open thai style restaurant in pattaya ive got a great deal on the lease in a very busy popular area with high traffic. its mainly for the gf for a source of income. she has expirience of cashier, her english is great. obviously she is now looking for chefs and staff and doing her own homework so i,ll do mine on here. i need to know where to look for chefs , how much salary i will pay them, one will work nights and one days, free food to staff and there are 2 rooms upstairs that i will do a little renovation on and give free rooms to staff also with tv and basic furniture. where can i find decent second hand kitchen equipment and cookers ovens fridge etc in pattaya area, if there is anywhere in bkk who will deliver i would like to know. the rent is 40k a month fixed for 3+3 i think its a fair deal and landlord seems genuine. ive done some maths and we only need to get 100 customers in there per day to make enough. beer , water, drinks will generate a decent income alone and definatey enough to pay overheads.
