According to what I’ve read thus far, no. But you may have to file a rax return here. But what if you don’t? How would they find out and track you down? That’s what I wonder. Are they motivated to become the FBI/IRS of Thailand? Do they have the resources to wage tax war against non complying low income expats? Or will it be a matter of so long as you don’t attract attention you stay under the radar?

It is too easy to find out who is likely to be included by asking for the information from the Immigration Dept. What they might find more difficult is checking how much you have transferred and when. The Thai authorities are notorious for not thinking things through before introducing a new policy so I would bet they are still busy trying to write the form. Of course, they will delay any announcement until 180+ days are up so the net is cast before we can find a way round it. From what I have seen so far what you will have to pay will depend on the allowances you are entitled to.

  2. It is interesting that being the most promiscuous also seems to earn you the title of "best shaggers". Considering the birth rate has dropped this title seems a bit unwarranted but there is a logical reason: Given the number of casual encounters that go on, plus the visit to the massage parlour, seeing the latest "Kik" (girlfriend), and a night out with the Mia Noi, not forgetting the 19th hole at the golf course in the afternoon before going home to the current wife could leave one a little tired.

If I had that schedule I'd be looking for an inactive post at work so I could get some rest.

Yes they are, but the rules are still antiquated...

For UK citizens... Our foreign Wife's could move to the UK with us, apply for ILR and as soon as that application is in process they can start work - they also pay the national healthcare surcharge and secure national healthcare.

There is no such situation where I can work in Thailand, just because I have moved here with my Wife...  I have to be sponsored by a company that employs at least 4 Thai's....  I can't just go out and get any job as my Thai Wife could in the UK.

Each country has its pro's and con's...  But it seems each time one of Thai's flaws is highlighted you stretch to certain lengths to justify those flaws which highlights a certain degree of 'Stockholm syndrome' where Thailand has taken your mind, you become blinkered and only see the issue from the a myopic perspective void of balance.

That is one of the reasons the UK is now being overwhelmed by economic migrants and bogus refugees and asylum seekers.

  4. Just got off the plane? It is clean, as clean as facial tissue but not as soft usually. There are decorative containers for it so it just looks like a tissue dispenser, just open the roll from the middle not the outside. What gets me though is how much they use, half a roll it would seem for some minor table spillage.

  5. The afternoon restrictions were introduced in the 70s but revived under the Thaksin dictatorship.

It really is nonsense to think abolishing this old law will create even more death and injury on the roads.

It will however allow restaurants and bars to legally do what many now pay the police to ignore. Hotels all used to say they were "exempt" and give you what you wanted, even on Buddhist days.

Better for business and good for tourism.

Don't these fools ever go to Malaysia or Indonesia which are Muslim countries and see beer and alcohol are available between 2 and 5pm?? Then of course same in Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam , Cambodia etc..It's completely silly for a loss of better words. How many times in Paragon or at 7/11 I've had to explain this to people and they are completely baffled!

You shouldn't take it out on the staff, they just do what they are told. If you want a beer or whatever find a store without an electronic till, or keep some spare in the cupboard.

Not all of them. One could have gone to 6th Form college (Labour Party reform in the mid-70s); 2 years NI credited. Then 3 years undergrad, on a full grant (zero NI, unless you got a summer job), then postgrad (zero NI, no summers off), paid by the state. Then a job in the US, followed by middle east. Come back elderly, sick and impoverished because you've blown the lot on a wild life. Straight away get full NHS cover. You won't have much of a state pension, because you never paid in, but you will be entitled to pensioner's credit. NHS cover is nothing to do with how much you pay in, otherwise you are denying treatment for the chronically sick.

You need 25 years for a full pension. Higher education does not take 20 years. Working overseas is a life choice. The NHS is free for British citizens (and just about anyone these days). Benefits are the same, but it isn't much if you have blown everything else on self indulgence.

No you haven't - they just tell you have made contributions. You still have dual citizenship too, something that should also be stopped. So you have that security of returning back home.

If a Thai leaves the country they don't get a pension from the state.

I don't have duel citizenship I have a retirement visa extension. Also, the "contributions" are compulsory and you need to have 25 years worth to qualify. If you go to live outside the UK the payments can be frozen depending on where you live.

The Thai pension system has nothing to do with this.

  9. Does anyone remember the Lonely Planet Guides from the days before Tictok and other SM.

Tuk tuks - tailors and jewellery shops, taxis - hotels and bars etc etc.

Is this guy trying to advise people how to find trouble or just get into it for his amateur travel video? Tictok must be the most moronic thing on the internet.

He's the scammer on this occasion.

  10. This statement really is as clear as mud:

"A key upshot of this agreement is that active talks will now focus on granting visa-free access to Thai passport holders in the United Kingdom."

These are tourist and business visas for short stays (for how long it doesn't say). I do not see how this is an advantage for Thais already living in the UK.

Cameron is an idiot so I would guess this is another meaningless excuse for diplomats (civil servants) to spend time flying back and forth for a chat.

I can only hope it leads to getting rid of 90 day reports for UK expats in Thailand.

  11. At least 5 out of every 6 days, some home made but mostly from the market or food stalls. My favourite is Larb Moo with Chinese lettuce and sticky rice but I like many of the soups (moo deng for one), various rice dishes like Massaman or Penang (with sauces) and barbecue etc. I am allergic to shell fish and don't like smelly fish but enjoy Tom Yam Gai. I love veg but not "veggie" specific food. Thai Fried Chicken with sticky rice I usually eat when watching football games. On the odd day I'll have pizza, burger or stew.

Do I miss western food?: English bangers, soft bacon, beans and black pudding with breakfast (not cocktail sausages, rock hard crispy bacon and cake). Campbell's Minestrone and Pea and Ham soup, good mashed potato with gravy and "English blend" teabags like Waitrose own brand.
