  1. TURP utilizing a laser is the treatment I had in Chiang Mai at Bangkok Hospital here a couple of years ago. Out of the hospital in four days….no catheter when I went home. My urologist is first rate. After care consisted of rest. pain was minimal to non existent after I went home. Even in hospital I didn’t require pain meds after the first day. No painkillers, no opioids, nada. Oddly, it was about two weeks or so before I was comfortable sitting in and traveling in a car for more than a few minutes. Reclining at home was fine. No follow on symptoms and no negative effects. Fully continent and functional. (your results may vary)
  2. Rule number 1…. Never send a copy of your passport to a stranger via email. Rule number 2…. See rule number 1.
  3. I wasn’t referring to firearms for “hunting” use by Americans…..the OP I responded to was referring to military armaments for government use.
  4. Ya, was there ever a time when the arms industry felt a recession?
  5. Chiang Mai Immigration requires a 12 month bank statement in addition to the bank letter. It’s easy enough to get. Bangkok Bank takes 5-7 days to get the statement from the main office in Bangkok so I always get that first then get the letter and update my book just before heading in to “the gauntlet.”
  6. So, the female prostitutes get a pass? Why are they not being “registered”?
  7. in your post you said you have a non o-a visa/extension. Presumably you have that as a retirement visa. You can apply for a Non-O retirement visa in Thailand after you enter visa exempt.
  8. So….why not comply with their request? Are they singling you out? Are you the only one they’re asking to don a mask? As others have said, they’re free to make their own rules…
  9. If your local IO won’t let you renew that early, you might consider re-entering visa exempt (if you’re eligible) then applying for a non-o after arrival. Then follow steps to get the annual extension, etc. If you already have the requisite funds in the bank it should be a fairly easy transition to a non-o visa and subsequent extensions that do not require insurance.
  10. Whatever happened to the plans for construction of a second airport in Chiang Mai? Site selection done….land purchases outlined…then “crickets.” In the meantime, CNX is jammed every day now and more international flights are scheduled….
  11. My HCI policy provides many multiples of coverage at less cost than Pacific Cross. I dropped Pacific Cross and went with HCI through an agent here in Chiang Mai.
  12. Well, I’ve been here for over a decade and I still read books. I spend time reading every day, usually for two to three hours. I gave up long ago on the idea of sitting in front of a roaring fire in a fireplace though. I can’t seem to find one…..anywhere!
  13. I understand your concern about sending in your passport and being without it for the two to three week period. I just renewed my U.S. Passport using the mail method to the embassy in Bangkok. Before I mailed it in I copied every page…the main info page and all pages that had any stamp on it and saved the copies until the new and old passports arrived back by EMS. It does take a leap of faith but it worked fine for me and as others have mentioned here they had no problems either. When you get the new passport be sure to bring it …and the letter the embassy gives you with the new passport….to your local Immigration office to get your visa or extension info and other pertinent permits, etc. transferred into the new passport. just be meticulous in following the instructions provided on the embassy website and you’ll be fine!
  14. Before I bit the bullet and started keeping 800k in a dedicated account, Chiang Mai Imm always required me to show FTT on my monthly deposits.
  15. Although I don’t have personal experience with the facility….This one has had some good reviews among expats here in CM. I believe they’re located in Mae Rim. https://bansabairesorts.com/senior-care-resort-chiang-mai/
  16. There is probably a fix to ease the transition from 8mm+ to the 5mm height. The “fitters” probably have experience with this. Think about stopping the planks a bit away from the slider rail and fitting an edge molding that will slope between the two edges. Just a thought!
  17. Most excellent! Now he’ll be off to the front line as fodder. Good place for him!
  18. What type of visa, O or O-A? If O-A…what insurance was required?
