On a Quora forum I was giving advice recently to potential visitors to Thailand, and one thing I said was "Never tell anyone that they are wrong", and this story illustrates the issue. Even when it's true and appropriate and within one's rights or even job description (evaluating employees), it's best to figure out some way to be subtle when correcting or giving bad news to someone.

Of course, with this guy I hope Thailand has advanced far enough that he gets some real jail time.

Yes, I've read this too, many times. A superior must never raise his voice to an employee for fear of making him/her lose face, never correct them, just make suggestions. So I've often wondered what happens in the Thai military? Do they have drill sergeants like other armies around the world? Does an officer order the men, or does he make gentle suggestions so as not to cause a private to lose face in front of the other soldiers. For if he loses face then he'll sneak around at night and murder that officer for causing him to lose face....Is that how it works?

Well according to previous TV articles the Thai government says having the vaccine does not negate having 2 weeks in quarantine. Of interest perhaps is that the Australian government has also stated that having been vaccinated does not mean you avoid 2 weeks quarantine. So there are at least 2 countries stating that being vaccinated will not open their tourist industries, no doubt there are many others. So even if you get your jab don't be looking at visiting at least Thailand or Australia in the near future, probably not till next year.

Yes, Australia is certainly going to insist on 14-day quarantine, even for vaccinated travelers, for some time to come. What I'm hoping for is by end of this year, or early next year, I could quarantine at home, like an inter-state arrival, as I have an empty apartment in Perth, and don't want to go to a quarantine hotel where I'd have an excellent chance of contracting fkn covid.

But, as I said above, could well be impossible to get a seat on a plane to Australia without proof of vaccination. And I may well be sitting around here for ages waiting for my turn.

Thailand will have to dispense with quarantine for vaccinated travelers if they want to recover their tourism industry. No holiday makers will do 14 days Q. Returning Thais & expats with families, business people, people for work...yes, these are long term stayers and will do 14 days Q. But those zillions of Chinese we used to see lined up at Pattaya beach or outside Bangkok's Grand Palace only come for 1-2 week hols, so 2 weeks Q is out of the question. And they are the tourists that Thailand is talking about luring again. It's not Bob from Sydney or Fritz from Berlin that they're interested in...it's those zillions of Chinese obediently lined up behind their patrol leader with his flag.

They ought to try and bring more than one vaccine producing centres on line. 5 million a month not enough, 26 million just enough for about 20% of population and have to consider possibly that vaccinations are going to be an ongoing thing for years to come, same as for flu. Countries can only open up to the rest of world once their own population is protected. At this projected rate it will be a few years before Thailand can do this.

This concerns me because Australia is soon starting mass vaccinations (free for EVERYONE in the country BTW....regardless of nationality & visa status) and it may well be that towards the end of this year travel restrictions will loosen up considerably for vaccinated people. And I really need to get back to Australia soon, but come the end of this year I'll more than likely still not be vaccinated, just sitting around here waiting for the Thais to get it together so I can get on the move again. Without that vaccination may not get a seat on a plane.

These vaccines need to be stored at below -o temperatures, so what happens if it goes above the prescribed temperature and you get injected, or during transportation is it then ineffective?, can you test it's effectiveness before injection?, I mean once it's in you, cannot get it back out again, one way street only, it would be quite annoying to hear after you have been injected the word oops!

one certainly hopes they don't go defrosting their freezers like they do with the fridges in shops, just turn it off until everything inside melts and gets soft, then start it up again.

  5. Something I could never understand was working people who had counter lunches in pubs, with a few glasses of beer, then went back to work. In Australia back in the 60s/70s/80s I'd see "office johnnies" doing it all the time. I did try it myself a couple of times and it was always an unmitigated disaster. I'd end up staying in the pub for the rest of the afternoon playing pool and boozing and roll home drunk at 6pm.

BlueStacks is an Android emulator for your PC.

Try my link earlier for the fully functional Mobdro.

Thanks for that. I d/l from the link you provide and it's a totally different app. I tried casting to my android TV and couldn't get it working but I can watch so many different things just on my smart phone, which is good.

  7. I ask because I have some business to deal with in BKK early-mid April (2 trips to BKK will be required) I can bring my business forward and get it out the way in March, so I think I'll do that, as there will still be extra holidays and people moving around in April. Thanks for replies, everyone.

My concern is that we look at all these different vaccines as if we will have a choice in which one we have, but these will be nothing more than wish lists when we are offered a "take it or leave it " dilema as the one we would prefer is unavailable in this country or not available until October, what to do then?

It's still early days, the vaccines will be coming in over the coming months from various manufacturers, I guess we farang will be given choices at a pretty price from different hospitals.

if it does explode here and fill the hospitals it will be interesting to see just how many foreigners are really 'stuck' here - lol I predict an exodus never seen before..

Yes, good idea, I'll go onto the Air Asia website now and book a flight to Perth for next Friday.

Who the hell would want to go to either destinations...

That's what I was thinking. From a tourism perspective, both places are backwaters. But if lots of trucks are carrying goods from Eastern Thailand to Malaysia, then there could be some use for the ferry.

Pre covid we'd make a motoring trip down to the Deep South once a year, I really enjoyed the journey, taking 3-4 days from BKK - Songkhla, stopping a night in HH, Surat, Nakorn Sri Thammarat, stopping along the way to check out tourist attractions.

Dont want to stop it thanks.....it highly controls the Chronic Fibromylgia I mentioned before. Am on it for life. It has absolutely no effect on me other than the job it effectively does

I've commented before that I have never had the slightest side effect from them. The GP has said before that I seem to have an enormous tolerance to legal prescriptipn drugs. Vividly remember having an operation in 2002 and I dont know the actual med thats injected just outside the operating room where you get asked to count to 10.....well I'm counting and counting and counting. Overwhelming memory of the nurses looking at me in total confusion

When I came around after the short operation in the recovery area with the two nurses one said she'd never seen anything like it

One of the issues I had when I was on Tram, and immediately following the time I got off it, was I had built up a very high tolerance to pain killers. I'd go to a dentist and would get the normal dose shot of painkiller and it had minimal effect. In Thailand I used to tell the dentist that I required a higher than normal shot and they would give it to me. But a couple times I went to Aussie dentists they are restricted by gov' & medical regulations and limited in how much they can give you, so I had some damn painful sessions. All is OK now, been off it for a long time and my tolerances are now back to normal levels.
