They are laying large drainage pipes and seem to to have waited for the rainy season to do it. Once that is finished, the road surfacing may start but at the present time there is just a lot of mud in front of the few businesses, and one village, that exist there. Guesstimates vary from months to a year, but who knows ?

I had good service at Kerry office along Soi Siam Country club. Coming from Sukhumvit it's on the right before the big market.

Interesting idea given that a test I wanted ( a simple urine flowmeter test ) was not available in Pattaya other than at arguably the most expensive hospital in the country. Bangkok is surely a better bet given world-class facilities in most hospitals there and , frankly, better prices.

I was once in a situation where disputes with a bank issued credit card led to debt collectors. I was advised by lawyers that a) it is illegal for banks to pass on or "sell" debts to such debt collectors and b) there was a 5 year limitation on debt. I am not certain if all that still applies but at the time, once debt collectors were told of my lawyer advice, they backed off.

That nickname is pronounced more like "Bam" than "Bum" by Thais .....

On very good authority, it seems they were taken to court and paid 100k fine and retrieved passport from Police station. They had multiple warnings over a few days but kept returning once police left.

To anyone who thinks it's ok to break the curfew I ask, "Do you ?". The answer is probably no and the reason is the heavy penalty or jail time under the current and temporary laws. If nothing else, the curfew and alcohol bans have saved many, many lives compared to the normal Songkran road carnage every normal year. Thai authorities know their populace well and young guys who just want to drink and party are a known part of the populace. They are not above the law.

If the card was bank issued, and in reply to a comment about a debt collection agency, my understanding is that it is illegal for a bank to sell debt to a debt collection agency. I had this once and after I quoted that legal opinion, I never heard again from the debt collector. I settled it all eventually direct with bank who were embarrassed that they had broken that law and gave me favourable repayment terms.

It is a straight forward police report but the first thing asked is "where did you lose it ?". If you say you lost it somewhere outside the jurisdiction of the police station you are in then you may be sent to a more relevant station. If you do go to Soi 9 it is is worthwhile checking their lost and found basket where many lost passports end up.

In 1966 Pattaya was there alright. Nipa Lodge had a nice little bar inside with live music where a couple of friends played. Barbos was there and on the corner of what is now Walking Street was a nice Swiss (?) restaurant I recall. That street was mainly shops, antiques etc. I also recall that Pattaya Klang has some nice little restaurants selling duck noodles ... ah, so long ago. Memory is going but I think beer bars were on and just off the old Sukhumvit Road but I don't recall any in town. In those days, I would come down from Bangkok with wife and later with kids.

I can relate to some of what I read above but in Bangkok I have met Thai ladies who spoke French or German or Italian as well as English and not because they had a previous foreign boyfriend but because they studied abroad. (My own half Thai daughters have 5 or 6 languages between them.) I'm not saying it is easy to meet respectable girls but working in an office or large company helps as does having a few educated Thai male friends who know you well enough to introduce you to a wider circle of people. Years ago the stigma of being thought a prostitute was there but it is more pronounced perhaps these days but having said that there are a lot more Westernised Thai ladies around too. So much depends in which circles you find yourself in and which places you frequent. What I do object to is the cliché remarks from those who have never had the same experiences as those who did find a respectable wife.

It's always the same old story, 60-year-old foreigner (speaking no Thai) claiming 40 (or under) year old Thai loving him for himself.
Who believes these guys? and why have I never met any of these wives?
The only Thai women I see (with foreigners) are hookers or gold diggers.
Well how about the fact that my story related to Bangkok (not Pattaya) more than 40 years ago when I did speak Thai (and still do) but my wife had spoke perfect English anyway. Your opinion says more about your life story and hang outs than it does about the stories you scorn.

It is good to see that despite the naysayers there are many cases of a meeting a normal Thai lady who is not from where the bar stool crowd seemingly sit all day

You can make a police report with any and all supporting evidence simply to have something as a first step for a lawyer to act upon or to simply use as a bit of a threat but, as said, it is not a matter for actual police action.

Most larger police stations have the computer system link to the data base needed but you need some friendly help there to have them access it.

I don't think many of us guys posting on TV fit into that category.
As far as I know there aren't many women in the world looking for 60+, fat, balding, beer-swilling tradesmen as 'escorts'.
How about bankers, company CEO's, advertising execs etc. who are not bald, drink spirits and need not be 60+ ...?

I'd be surprised if you (as a foreigner) actually managed to bang an (educated/hiso) Thai girl that wasn't in reality a prostitute.
You have just confirmed my comments about cynical posters ....

Some typical TV cynical responses from some who have never - it seems - met any educated decent Thai females and sneer derisively at those who have.....they might be surprised just how many million Thai females have never been into a bar let alone worked in one.

No, but thanks for asking .....

She was a friend of a Thai work colleague and had recently returned from UK finishing school, working as a lawyer's secretary in Bangkok. Many decades ago and now long since divorced.....

Unless you have something in writing to prove that you lent him the money it becomes your word against his and police cannot act just upon that.

I actually did write a book with some snippets of my life here, mostly as a fun gift for friends one Christmas some time back. If I had to name one thing that made "Thainess" constant for me it would be the friendship of Thais met during my work and/or my music days. Mostly Bangkokians with decent schooling and a healthy acceptance that not everything in Thailand is great but lots of things are. At the other end of that educational or employment scale outside of Bangkok, so many nice Thais have been met who are living as best as they can, with a smile and commitment to their families' better future. I find it is not that hard to avoid the more cynical and less pleasant people be they Thai or other nationalities. Maybe that is the secret ?

Some interesting points. I came here 52 years ago so have seen most of the changes that people don't like but somehow the very "essence" of life here has not changed drastically. I don't have much of a choice about staying on since the UK offers no pension or benefits for me having left so long ago that I am not entitled to anything there. And having been a contract player when working, when contracts finished there was no pension there either after retirement. With my two grown up half-Thai daughters having done well in schooling, marriages and careers etc. I am supported and live quietly and divorced these days and just flow with it all - gravitating to the things that I like and avoiding the things that I don't like. Thing is, we are all different in past experiences, personalities and circumstances that there are no strict guidelines for life here - or anywhere else for that matter.

Unidentified foreigner arrested for allegedly stealing two bottles of liquor in Pattaya and attempting to flee across nearby rooftops, claims he is homesick and wants to be sent back to his country

Not giving a name is silly ploy as until police have that he can't be officially processed and he will just remain in custodial cells. He will likely get Covid tested under current practice and if positive will be sent wherever such cases go for those in custody. While only a finable offence, he makes it harder by continuing to be silly.
