  1. i noticed it as well santisuk. glad i wasnt the only one.

4 times the last 2 mornings like clockwork.

i can only assume they dont want conflicting weather reports....but still it seems awfully strange to me.

or maybe they dont want people to cancel their trips to thailand?

that or its just more *fake* news.....

  2. my sincere thanks for your help, ubonjoe and nzexpat.

i've been living here almost 10 years (working 28 and 28). never had the need for anything other than a tourist visa. now the rig has shut down like so many others around the world.

feel and bit panicky and silly actually for not knowing more about the process.

again, my sincerest thanks for pointing me the right way.

  3. You can only get a single entry non-o visa in Vientiane.

The only thing you will need is your passport and a bank book showing 800k or proof of an income of 65k baht or both totaling 800k baht.

The requirements shown on the website is for Lao citizen to get a OA visa.

If you really want a multiple entry you could try Penang with financial proof.

    ok, thanks pal.

now if i can bend your ear again....if i have a single entry non o visa, if i get the retirement visa, will that be single entry as well? or could i get multiple entry.

i am sorry...i am finding all of this very confusing.

is there a place i could send it to to get it done for me?? not too worried about the cost.

  4. sorry...the answer is likely here somewhere but if someone could just tell me in a nutshell, i would appreciate it. i'm just worried what i read might not be current.

i'm reading a curriculum vitae (that is the same as a resume?)., medical certificate (what are they looking for here? do i need to go to a major hospital or will local clinic work?), and police clearance (just go to the local police station?)

the purpose is to get a retirement visa. i'm 55 and the money is in the bank.

    thankyou in advance. (very much)

  5. Another good source; I prepared these for next season's crop.

    Best regards.

i use these guys already, but my brother (who i work with offshore) would bring them with him from canada after i ordered them and had them delivered to his place.

but the lucky sob has just retired. do these guys ship international, soidog?

and if i can bend your ear once more.....any hot picks? (sounds like we're at the horse races)

thanks in advance, and once again i'm very impressed with your results.

  6. your picks are duly noted, rice. my cherokee purple this year are the only ones out of about 15 varieties that are doing anything i could be remotely proud of. the tommy toe are good as well, but they always seem to do good for me.

soidog, thanks for the advice....going to go back to basics next year and plant a lot in the ground, the buckets not so much. going to purchase a tiller, procuring the cow sh*t is the easy part.

thanks to the both of you for the advice and the awesome pictures. lucky you don't have me for a neighbor, i'd be "popping in" daily this time of year with empty basket in hand.

  7. Hello All, the PBT-Dye is a nice eating tom, soidog2 has a way with tomatoes and things,

so I asked if he would like to try some and he said yes, and it looks like he and his family

had some good eating along with the other tom's.

Turnpike,I've been ordering from TGS for 15+ and direct to LOS for 5 years and have NOT

had any order problems or non deliveries, not saying it can't happen, but never order some

thing you can't afford to lose.

    rice555

    My PBT-dye's, hydro

thnx rice. TGS it is, then.

time to start browsing for next years disaster. smile.png

i've been a heirloom guy, but any recommendations for a good tasting hybrid? sun gold is already on my list.

    thanks in advance.

  8. Seeds originated here: http://www.tomatogrowers.com/

    Blush

    Sunset Falls Hybrid

    Sioux

    Pink Berkeley Tie-Die

As for the method; nothing special.

Good soil looked after with lots of organic material added regularly.

    Some organic fertilizer at mid-season.

Weekly neem based spray to keep away the bugs.

Plants easily climb to 15 or more feet, need good support. (picture attached)

    Enjoy

i am definitely doing something wrong.....no, many things.

i think next year my focus will be on hybrids.

    well done, 2!

do plant in the ground? and do you have any problems with delivery to thailand from the good people in the website?

  9. food. com or allrecipes. com have salad recipes (also every course following the salad) by the hundreds, most with user reviews.

plus there's likely a hundred other sites similar. those are just the 2 i happen to use.

    that's what i'd suggest.

btw....making a caesar salad tonight with home made croutons. recipes both from above.

  10. Never ate quail or quail egg, but just want to comment on an interesting thread.

I'm assuming your predator was a dog?

Good luck with your enterprise, look forward to reading more.

Edit: do you find it difficult to find a market, particularly for the meat? Just that in my little corner of Thailand (khon kaen area), I've never seen it nor heard of it for sale.

  11. google "caesar pleasers".

it's a dry mix that has gotten good reviews in all sites i've read. (mostly canadians going to mexico dying for a caesar.)

i'm assuming you're canadian....i think you can find it online to be delivered abroad.

it's meant to be mixed with water, but i've read it's better mixed with tomato juice.

if you've got someone in canada who can post it to you, canadian tire i know for sure stocks it. (camping section i think). my mate is doing this for me, he says the canadian tire in lethbridge was out of stock, so they're going to order some in for him.

save you big $$ in shipping to buy dry.....

hope this is of some use.

edit: a spoonful of horseradish (not creamed but minced) is a nice touch, if you're not aware.

  12. i think making wine from grapes requires a press of some kind. sounded too hard for me.

google "winemaking home page". a texan named jack kellar runs it....you will find recipes for making wine out of almost any fruit or veg you can think about, grapes included.

i started winemaking from wine kits back home....dead easy if you follow directions and sterilize properly.

since then, made wine from scratch from strawberries, wild rose petals, black and red currant, blackberries, mango, and likely half a dozen more. even made a small batch from garlic, which i could've easily drank but gave it out for xmas gifts for cooking.

but if making wine from grapes is your thing, by all means go for it. not knocking it.

sorry...taking this thread slightly off topic, but i thought it better to do this than start a new one.

any experts here want to guess what variety this might be?

g/f bought it at the KK farmer fair...she wrote down the variety but lost it........surprise, surprise. i bought 2, they've been under shade and watered daily since i planted 'em in the beginning of Feb.

i said she should have bought an A and a B variety, she said the gal who sold it to her said because they were grafted trees it wasn't necessary. maybe i'm in the wrong here?

also, i planted this one grown from seed nearby the 2 grafted ones.

    SAM_0621_zpsc844a179.jpg

beautiful little tree, about 2 foot high and seems to be flourishing, but my question is...will it help this seed grown tree to fruit if it's parked nearby the grafted trees? or maybe it doesn't make a lick of difference.

my thanks in advance for any avocado professionals that want to help a dim fellow out.....

  14. happy to say that all 8 bananas (not 10 like i said before, forgot i gave 2 away) have finally grown up out of the ground.

this is the last straggler, but it's going to unfurl now any day.

    SAM_0619_zps43b74be6.jpg

funny, 7 out of 8 have grown out of the stem, where the 8th on has shot up from the side.

i never planted them "almost a meter deep", it was 40cm, tops. not sure why some thought that.

and soidog...you've pointed out a problem with me that i may need to seek professional help about.....overfertilizing. i've killed more plants with kindness than by any other method. my way of thinking is that if 1 spoonful of fertilizer is good, than 3 heaping spoons must be better. in my defense though, the cow manure was very old, and smelled nothing like it did when it first emerges from the cow. in fact, it just smelled of that rich earthy smell that i think we all know and appreciate.

    SAM_0624_zpse59d8d3d.jpg

anyways, here's some of the remainder. (if my dad were still alive, i'm sure he'd give me hell about the crooked row)

sorry for late reply...i was working offshore. i figure it's been about 50 days since i put them in the dirt. water them twice daily.

thanks to all who posted, much appreciated.

  15. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/11/pacu-testicle-biting-fish-spotted-scandinavia_n_3739478.html

more than just an urban legend, i think.

there are dozens of similar stories if you google something along the lines of "pacu attack testicles".

even the show "river monsters" with jeremy wade (discovery channel or nat geo) had an episode on pacu and he referred to this.

i wouldn't be too worried, but i wouldn't swim "au naturel" just to be on the safe side....

  16. if it's a good fighting fish on a rod and reel you are looking for, i would highly recommend the pacu. it hails from south america. good to eat too, big bones and big bones only.

i think it's called pla ta-la-mit...or something along those lines.

you'll want to use a steel leader, those teeth can bite thru mono pretty easy. and use strong hooks, also. they will straighten the small cheap ones like nobody's business.

oh, and by the way....watch your testicles if you feel like taking a dip.

pla nin? nice to eat but not one i'd call a sportfish. just my opinion, mind you...

but any fish is fun to catch.
