  1. 100k?

For that payday, you and the wife can fly out of the country on a very nice week's holiday, someplace you can also do the transaction legally, and still have money left over. No laws broken.

    Hong Kong comes to mind.

Thank you, that is a very clever and helpful answer. I am due a holiday.

I hope we do not infringe any WP laws while we are away....... :)

  2. Am I assuming ? based on your deflective responses to date, one can only conclude you don't, otherwise you would have said you had one from the offset, and not have to resort to rude responses.

You will make a terrible policeman then.

  3. There seems to be an obsession on this forum with farangs having or not having work permits.

Why come here and ask for advice, if you are not willing listen to the answers??

Soutpeel gave you a sensible reply, telling you to keep a low profile if no WP. And a rude reply from you.

So my advice is: Do what the <deleted> you want, nobody cares....................coffee1.gif

the amusing thing occurred to me reading his OP was that if he didn't have a WP, (and hence my question) why would he be worried about the legality of doing a gambling website anyway, it not like they would pull his WP for doing something illegal, as he was already doing something illegal in the first instance...laugh.png

But the big question that you have failed to answer is

    Is it illegal?

Another thig you are only assuming is that I don't have a WP.

Regardless of my response. My WP status is nothing to do with the OP is it? and even less to do with members on here...... I just amusingly pointed out the INFATUATIOON most members have on here about other people's WP status.

To be quite frank, I do not need advice about WPs that is not what I was asking, I was asking if any member knows if it illegal to build a gambling website. I am not even building the <deleted!> thing so my WP has sod all to do with it.

  4. 100k baht? Not a huge amount really.

Fly out of Thailand and do the deal if you're that nervous.

I should have said in my original post. I have already made up my mind that I am not working on this myself.

It is my wife who wants to go ahead with it. I am trying to put her off the idea, but if it were to happen I would certaily insist she is no more than a middle man.

  5. My wife and I build and sell websites in Thailand. My wife markets the business to Thais and I would say 95% of our work is for Thais.

We were contacted by a lady who wants us to build a basic gambling website in duel language of Eng/Thai and load it with a few flash games like roulete, blackjack and some slots.

I know it is totally illegal to run a gambling site here in Thailand but is it illegal to build one for someone?

She wants it hosted offshore and am yet to find out what her funding system is, forget bank transfer.

My wife has managed to get a quote from another developer who will do all the work and we could act as middle men and make about 100K for basically no work.

We have been offered a very high budget to deliver the site, I have to say it is tempting and my wife seems determined to do this as a middle man at the very least. But I am still very nervous about it.

It may well be totally legal to build and sell one and the onus is on whoever operates it and sells the service.

What do you think? ...... Err on the side of caution and refuse it, pass the job on and take a cut for doing no work or take a chance and hope it does not come back on us?

  6. By the way..... The difference between the width of a car and a motorcycle is enough to make a difference in safely rounding the turn.

A car needs much more space and a bike can usually get around relatively safely, not so much for the car.

So maybe the copper was looking more at the safety aspect.

  7. I had Black friends like that in the UK, always bleating on about the cops only stopped them because they where Black, how about when they stopped me, was it because I was white ?

Loads of Thais get stopped for motoring offences everyday, in fact if you go on a Highway up country you're less likely to get stopped for a spot check and have your car searched simply because you're a Farang, The Thais have a much tougher time with the cops, we get away with a lot.

We actually do get away with a lot.

Everytime I get stopped i smile at the copper and rabbit out in my broadest Geordie accent some nice pleasntries. Most of these roadside cops can not speak even basic English, let alone understand broad Geordie, they always just look at me and wave me through.

Touch wood, so far I have never even been asked to show my license.... They just can not be bothered to deal with someone they can not communicate with.

    smile.png:)smile.png

My advice is to NEVER speak Thai to them..... not even sawatdee kap. My wife told me that and she has been absolutely correct thus far.

  8. Irrespective of what you may think about the G2G rice deal, and whether it was a huge scam, or a valid transaction that yielded poor results - if you have any attachment to concepts like due process, you should be dismayed by this proceeding.

    Two main points.

    1) The use of the term "impeachment" to describe this process is misleading at best. Impeachment is typically a process by which officials are judged and removed from office. These officials are already out of office.

    2) The proper venue for these charges to be considered is a criminal court in which a (supposed) independent judge or jury can weigh the evidence. This proceeding is lacking in that basic mechanism for fairness.

Again, I'm not arguing guilt or innocence.

But this proceeding is a "show trial", reminiscent of communist China.

Carry on with your purge, gentlemen.

1).... Impeachment is not just to remove from office, but to ban them from re-entering politics for 5 years.

2).... The normal course of action is to impeach first and then file for a criminal case from the OAG.

The reason they do it this was is because in Thai law regarding politicians. A politician can not be held accountable in law for what they do while they are in office. They are immune from prosecution. However, an impeached politician CAN be held accountable for what they did while they were in office.

Go check that up, I am sure you will find that I am right.

  9. You can get a voluntary stamp, which is about £7 a week, from memory.

You also 'only' need 30 years to get a full pension.

    Isn't it now 35 years

I think that depends on what year you were born. I am pretty sure I am in the 30 year category.

I actually found a pension calculator online on the gov.uk site. Very helpful.

I am currently rated at 85 quid a week and the maximum is 115.95 so only 31 quid short of the max.

Hoping basic pension will be about 300 a week by the time I retire at 67 A nice top up to my private pension.:)

    Link below.

    https://www.gov.uk/calculate-state-pension

I also found a webpage where you can send an enquiry for a breakdown of where you are in qualification for full pension.

    Link below.

    Thanks for the replies.

  10. I have lived in Thailand for 5 years and I have just turned 50 at the weekend. I am now thinking about shortfall in my NI contributions to qualify for my UK state pension when I reach eligible age.

I have looked around the internet, but it is all very confusing with conflicting information here and there.

Is anyone here paying basic stamp to keep their NICs going for their pension?.... are we even allowed to pay NI while living abroad for a long period??

    Any advice is much appreciated.

  11. I am running a business with my wife in the Northeast and it has become very successful in its niche, and we are wanting to come down to BKK to do a bit of fieldwork so we can expand to there.

Can any of you good folks living down there help me out with a bit of advance advice on certain costs? It would help me with a bit of costings before we travel down there and i like to be a bit prepared.

First of all, how much is the rent on say a double shop house anywhere in the cheapest part of the suburbs.... It is not essential and can quite literally be stuck away off the beaten track as it is not for retail purposes, only for light production work.

Secondly, what is the going rate for unskilled or low skilled workers for simple production work?.... This can be migrant workers also, as we can legally employ them. The work probably suits females more than men.... This would be 8 hours a day Mon - Fri.

Lastly, what would the going rate be for a small van driver to do deliveries?...... This would be about 6 hours per day, 6 days per week.

I really would appreciate any help if you have the local knowledge.

Thank you very much in advance.

  13. The Russian troop issue could be easily solved. Simply count up the prisoners being exchanged and see how many of them are Russian regulars. I doubt that any of them are but you would think Kiev would make a major effort to capture some Russians.

They have captured dozens of them with Russian passports. But they claim to be volunteers or local residents with Russian passports. And several months ago there were many reports of Russian movement at the border of Ukraine. No-brainer that Russian involvement in this conflict is crucial.

Of course the Russians are involved, mostly with supplying weapons, and the troops are all mercenaries, the same as Ukraine already having plenty covert US military aid, and US mercenaries too.

This whole affair is very complex and has been set up for more than 4 years by the US government. It involves many countries, and all are being pushed to a final solution. War with Russia.

I could go into fine details and all backed up with very credible sources. I have studied this for at least 3 to 5 hours a day for the past year, probably well over 1000 hours. I am now in the process of putting a forum together that is dedicated to the full history of the WW3 build up.

From Libya and the Arab spring uprisings, to Saudi Arabia, right up to the US involvement in having Yanukovych overthrown and a Russian hating government selected by the US state department.... All engineered to get Putin to react to protect pro Russian Ukrainians. Because if he didn't, they would now be getting ethnically cleansed.

Like I said.... It is all very complex, it has a very long and deep rooted history. It has to be completed by the end of 2015 because the US economy is not going to hold up much longer as it is based on a currency that basically has zero value. The USD is going toi collapse, and the US needs to make sure it controls the next global currency which means they will control the global economy.

There needs to be an all out World war with both Russia and China or the US could completely collapse.

I will have the forum up and running by next week... It will be full of interesting and 100% backed up facts. I think you would find it an interesting debating platform.

  14. His wife does not find anything suspicious that he went for a walk after dinner and never returned, and she was equally not worried that he was not there the next morning and it took a worker to find him late in the morning????

Then she seems to hand the police a string of reasons to justify suicide????

I do not trust anything about these incidents.

Who is going to benefit from his death????

  15. The fact that no one seems to know which side to give way to doesnt help. Give way to the left or right? Oh well, i will just start driving across the ontersection (btw you are supposed to give way to the LEFT here!)

I wouldnt blame the pick up driver at all. The motorcyclist was in dream world ld, never touched his brakes.

Thailand is based on the British Highway Code.

You give way to traffic coming from the right.

That would put the m/c in the wrong at an unmarked junction.

On roundabouts yes, give way to traffic coming from the right. In other cases, give way to traffic coming from the left (presuming the roads are equal of course).

Correct, the standing rule is give way to your left, not your right.

    What?

Man, you do not know how to negotiate a crossroad, I pray you do not get behind the wheel of a car.

There is no particular side to give way... This is a crossroads, not a roundabout where you give way to the right. There is a clear give way line in front of the pickup, so the pickup MUST to give way to the left and the right, and not move off till the road is totally clear.

I go through that intersection all the time, where the pickup was, you can see 200 meters both ways up and down that road. He HAD TO HAVE seen the bike and what speed it was doing. He should NEVER have pulled out and expect the bike to stop for him.

He either never looked at all, or he just had the attitude that he has more right on the road as the biker.

The bike had the right of way.

  17. 30 years driving in the UK and I only ever saw one road accident. In 5 years of driving in Thailand I have probably seen more than 30.

What is the problem?... Surely all humans no matter where they are born, have the same levels of attention and awareness???

This happened just around the corner from my house this afternoon in Korat.

I dont know if I can blame it all on police neglect to enforce road traffic laws, I think a lot of blame lies with the Thai people as well.

  18. Just a personal observation.

But the Thai Soaps on the mainstream channels have caught my eye over the years while dining in Thai restaurants etc..

It seems to me that the vast majority of them are based on the upper classes who live in mansion style houses in the BKK Suburbs, with perfectly manicured gardens and a driveway full of Beemers and Mercs. The actors portray beautiful light skinned well educated people with well rounded lives yet still manage to have their ups and downs.

On the other hand, the lesser amount of soap that portray poorer folks living in the villages who drive pickups and live in much more humbler settings, the actors portray much lesser educated (to the point of imbeciles) with drunken violence and constant screaming arguments from start to finish that screech out of the speakers while the characters stumble around like complete retarded idiots.

There always seems to be a gun pulled out no matter what the class format... But there is always a difference in that too. Upper class, gunman acts cool and measured a bit bond like, whereas in contrast the poor class soap will normally show the gunman as a hapless, but ruthless sneering amateur criminal.

So my basic observation is that in Thailand TV is pretty much expected to make its TV shows in this class divide clever/stupid format, mainly because the people expect it.

Some may disagree with me, I dont watch this stuff and have probably missed more than I have caught (a lot more) but the wife agrees with me over it.,... Poor people stupid, rich people cool.
