People also conflate a dislike for a particular culture, or aspects of it, with racism. The two are different. I dislike many aspects of Korean and Japanese society and the way people behave and talk. But that's not racism. Racism is visceral, meaning the mere sight of their features and skin makes you hate them. I was married to a Chinese for 15 years, so obviously I don't care about features--in fact, Chinese or Japanese eyes are beautiful in a woman. A lot of undergraduates in the U.S. have this idea that the movie "Lost in Translation" is somehow "racist" just because it shows some silly elements of Japanese society. It also shows some lovely things about it. It's nothing to do with racism.

Drivers are ALWAYS at fault when they hit pedestrians while going the wrong way on a one-way street, perhaps especially when they're backing up with no rear view. It's not quantum physics.

A private jet is obviously for the brass. I suppose in the long run it might be more economical to buy a new one for US$4.35 million than to use an existing 737-type?

I have to agree, yes, about Baker. And Jack Bruce was a hell of a singer, especially in Born Under a Bad Sign and White Room. Wow--R&B rock never got much better than that. The Beatles were in another genre, not very appealing to me these days (I was 17 in 1967 and was also awaiting the Beach Boys' "Smile," which never came.) Yet another subgenre. I was blown away by some tracks in Ten Years After's "Stonedhenge.' (1969) Remember the Speed Kills track? oh my. "Get on the bahl, boy, let's catch that train and head owne." That album was worth it for the cover alone. You could stick it on a wall.

This is the problem with any economy relying too much on tourism. Or anything for that matter.
And in reality all manufacturing is down.
People with an ounce of noodle hasn't been looking at scraping the remnants of 2020 with "local tourism". Were well beyond that. 2021, what's that going to be like? We have to wait and see if a vaccine is produced. If not, don't count on anything in 2021 either. The high winter season for Thailand is already finished and it hasn't even started yet.
They assemble more cars than anyone in SE Asia but the consumer selection within Thailand is pathetic.

Stockholm and London still had social distancing (the report is from before the pubs reopened), and people in NY are still mostly working from home (where they can).
NY already has an R number above 1 again, so herd immunity at 20% doesn't appear to be working there, and let's see what happens in London with the pubs having reopened...
The current hot zone is Houston, no longer New York.

Yes. And airlines can't turn a profit on their 10-20% resumption of flights if they don't occupy all or most of the seats. Certainly the limited US domestic flights are packed again. I'm not flying anywhere. I'm taking road trips if I really need to get out and travel a bit.

Keith Moon was the best drummer of them all. Although the most amazing one I've seen a video of, or live, was some young Chinese-American female; in what band I couldn't tell you. I don't know her name. But I've never seen anything like it. She would just look straight ahead with a big smile as if posing for a photo while her drumsticks were all over the place, super-rapid, with a life of their own.

One time about six years ago I was on a flight from Abu Dhabi to BKK. I think it was an Etihad flight, but could have been some other airline. Usually one hopes to see a lot of lovely Thai women on board. There was exactly ONE. All but two or three of the remaining passengers were a large contingent of Arab athletes. Three weightlifters sat directly behind me. They were the noisiest of the lot. Luckily there was plenty of room further back in coach, where I fled without delay. The girl and the other "regular" passenger did the same.

That's true, but it seems to be endemic to the south side of Chicago, and you're generalizing it to the entire nation. I can tell you that Boise, where I live now, is far safer than the Middle East (where drivers are out to kill you) and certainly Thailand. And the people are the friendliest and most courteous to strangers I've ever encountered anywhere. (That extends to drivers, too.) So where have I lived to compare? How about 15 years in four EU countries, 6 all over East Asia plus many months' worth of visits, and 19 years in the Gulf Middle East.

Yes, it is. It is safe or I wouldn't live here, having spent 40 years outside the US in Europe, East Asia and the Middle East--so I know how to compare. Your perceptions are just that. People worldwide see the headline news and make simplistic assumptions. And as for the gun deaths, 2/3 are suicides and accidents and vast majority of the rest are in dodgy neighborhoods, drug dealers s. drug dealers, etc.

Oh, I was married to a Chinese from Kuala Lumpur for 15 years. There's no comparison--women from all over East Asia are the most beautiful by far. Chinese, Thai, Japanese, various Malaysian mixtures. They make Caucasian American women look like horse faces. And nowadays about 1/3 of the young ones are well overweight or obese.

I "loose" my temper internally when I see online that hardly anyone knows how to spell a simple four-letter word like LOSE. We LOSE our keys; we don't "loose" them. Lose a button on your shirt and your collar is loose.

Nonsense. Crime is down to 1940s levels. NYC murders, for example, are down 80% from the 1992 peak. About one every other day. Let alone a place like Boise, where I live.

I'll turn 71 next March and would be paying B133,682 ($4456 at 30/$) plus a 35% copay? I'm better off in the States, where I am covered 100% by Medicare and Plan F, no copay, no deductibles, can go directly to any specialist and almost any hospital I want, for $3300 annual premium (of which 1/3 is paid by Social Security, so my out-of-pocket premium is actually $2200). If I were under 65--well... I was covered by a US company in the Middle East.

Actually crime is way, way down from 1992, having steadily decreased since then to 1940s levels, although since the pandemic started there has been an upswing in murders in the big cities.. Not comparable to elsewhere in the world?? Apparently you haven't heard of South and Central America. The country has changed dramatically. NYC, for example, used to be horrible in the 1970s. It's fairly safe now, and much cleaner.
