  1. The Kings Cup being played at Phoenix is beyond a joke!. I rarely play there but did last week, the course is 2 steps up from being a goat track. A short goat track at that. That "new" 9 was a good waste of time and money.

It will be the absolute worst course any European players have set foot on as a pro, and I really hope they say that into a microphone.

Spot on Subpar. The Kings Cup will be an embarrassment to the whole golfing community around Pattaya. There are at least 9 greens at Phoenix that are a disgrace and not fit for my dog to play games on. It will take a miracle to get them to even 50% standard in 17 days time. The other greens are barely passable. That is not to mention all the other bad grassed areas. A European Tour Event should never be played on a course in such a state. Craziness.

  2. Topt:

Phoenix also said that the Lakes would re-open on November 1st. Yet another deception. If they open it too soon,

the golfers will be very disappointed, and the course will deteriorate very quickly. They made this same mistake

when they re-opened the Ocean course in 2013, and the Mountain course last year. Wisdom is severely lacking

at Phoenix, so to generate more money, the desperate Club may open the Lakes prematurely.

Rather than being yet another disappointed customer, would it not be wiser to play golf at one of the many other

local courses that have better playing conditions, and offer better value? It is also annoying at Phoenix, to play at

a snails pace behind several groups of 5, while the marshals are no where to be found.

Re your second para - not sure where you got the idea that I play there regularly as have only played twice in recent memory and one of those was completely free.........(difficult to find better value than that thumbsup.gif )

Unfortunately it also likely that you will play behind 5 balls on almost any course at this time of the year. Starter put us off the 10th at Bangpra on Wednesday but unfortunately in front of the group in front were two 5 balls of Thai players. Saying that it was not a desperately slow round but could have been so much quicker.

Just to be clear, and agreeing with your general point, I have no plans to play Phoenix unless it was being offered at a considerably cheaper price.

Phoenix has 5 balls on the WEEKENDS. The larger numbers at this time and because of high season result in over 5 hour rounds. Unacceptable. Just money grabbing by the Management which will eventually back fire on them if it has not already. Even if Phoenix offered a considerably cheaper price the condition of the course would still keep people away. The ones that do play will not return. Phoenix needs to take a good look at itself in the mirror.

  3. I am so sad that the club I had chosen to join, of the numerous around the Pattaya area, after playing all the surrounding clubs , before deciding - turns out to be the worst, on a club - membership basis.

All the new owners had to do was talk to the existing shareholder / members, explain their plans and proposals - something that is the norm in business terms - but instead decided to ride roughshod over the existing shareholder / members - without consultation.

The Pattaya Sports Club, whose members are affected by this, chose not to support their members in this dispute. I wonder why?

How difficult is it to engage with shareholders in a company that you are taking over?

The "High Season" that is upon us now, already shows a drop in golfing numbers, and I presume an ever extending of "Privileges" (Free Golf Cart etc) as the numbers decline.

How easy it would have been to talk to the shareholder / members at the outset.

I live in (everlasting) hope !

Yes consultation was all that was needed. Sadly none. No commonsense by the new owners. No idea as to what makes a golf course tick and how to get people on your side. Big and Bossy. All the troubles could have been avoided with both sides winners. It is great to live in hope but never ever forget that the new owners can never be trusted. Some recent changes have only been brought about by financial necessity. The high season will see a drop in numbers as parts of the course are in sub standard condition, greens and tees especially, and the New Lakes Nine has taken longer to establish which will just put more pressure on the other nines. The heart of Phoenix is not beating well.

  4. "which has seen civil liberties eroded since the army declared martial law and seized power from an elected government last May." - THIS has got to be the biggest "fib" ever, since that so-called "democratically elected" government was wrought with Vote-Buying on an embarrassingly huge scale; Intimidation; so-called "Benficial Scheme Promises to benefit those population-groups who are vast in number, but very limited in understanding - and much more underhanded tactics ! ! If THAT is "democratically elected" - then pigs will soon start to fly . . . . . . .

Now; apparently, Thailand is "suffocating under a tough Military Junta" who has been "systematically curtailing democratic freedoms" . . . . well; I have lived/worked in this wonderful country for a little over 22 years and I can assure you that I am not suffocating; in fact - this country has never felt better and the only people who are feeling some pressure are those who strive to benefit (big time) over the backs of the working class in Thailand.

A number of years ago, I was asked what the best manner of "Government" would be ( for any nation) and the answer is very simple; it's called:

    "a Benevolent Dictator"

and voila; here we have a very brave Thai' General, who stood-up in the middle of a very dire (for the country and its future !) situation and slammed his fist on the table and said: "Enough is Enough" ! ! !

General Prayuth is NOT out to, and/or motivated by GREED, but by the desire of ALL thinking Thai' people, to bring this country into the 21st Century in terms of re-organizing this society to where there's Equality, Freedom-from-Corruption and; Fair-Laws & Fair Legal- Institutions;- ultimately a DEMOCRACY to best serve the good people of Thailand !

General Prayuth and his efforts to achieve these goals (extremely difficult as it may seem !) is supported by the vast majority of Thais - and I, for one, salute him !

    wai.gif

I bet you sucked up to your teachers in school too.

How do you know the General is not out to, and/or motivated by greed? Check out his wealth !!!

  5. with the closure of the Heaven Gentleman’s Lounge prostitution is now ended in Pattaya. It has been rumored that some it still goes on in Jom Tien at times but this should be the end of it for once and for all.wub.png

yeah I agree. Its all over. Finished and dead. Now I can get back to my normal lifestyle without the threat to be drag in to such bad places. But Jimbolai if you hear of any rumors can you let me know.

  6. That is why, I admire you Prime Minister.

You are a patriot, and a man of honour.

I believe that at the end you will succeed with your aspirations.

Thailand will be a better country with you, in charge.thumbsup.gif

He's a clown, but that aside; Perhaps you (being one of his greatest ass-kissers) can explain how that trip or anything he has done is putting his own life (rather than others..) at risk? How is any of this gambling with his own life? I'm curious

It will be a far worse country because he is causing deeper divisions.

  7. Keep it up dear General. Your bone-headed nature may someday finally free the Thai people.

Loved this comment - it's a perfect example of his Orwellian double-speak...

He suggested asking all the Thai people what they really want, and not just asking certain groups, and jumping into conclusion.

Which of course would have been the July 2014 elections.

He has never been serious about asking all the Thai people. He has never been serious about helping all the Thai people. He's never, ever been a 'democratic soldier' ....

He is interested in enforcing the status quo of military dominance in Thailand into the future ... as far as the eye can see....

You are so right he is the one showing favors and causing further division in the country. Very sad for the people.

  8. Really. No TV members, have any idea of changes?

Although I am Member of Phoenix I do not play there now and the only change I know of was the change in the compulsory cart rule which was made a few months ago. Of course bar groups are allowed back to play too. The new Golf Manager appears to be trying to attract more players. Now he needs to have some influence with the owner and bring the Phoenix members on side. However the owner cannot see that the Phoenix members could be her biggest asset if treated with respect. No idea of how to operate a successful golf club. Her way is the only way. Very sad state of affairs.

As from January 4 , 2015 paid up members will be allowed to play without any green fee every day including weekends and holidays. Previously the only free day was Monday. Also the members guest green fee from that date has been reduced to 1000 baht for weekdays and 1500 baht for weekends and holidays. It appears that Management are too proud to discuss the problems in an official capacity with the members but realize that mistakes have been made and quietly try to correct them.Watch this space for the next correction.

I stand corrected myself. It is from now until the 4th January that those rates apply. Sorry. It sounded a bit too good to be true.

  11. YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW.

Phoenix should have changed it's name to Phoenix Ghost Town. Today, when I toured around the

27 holes at 11:00 A.M., I saw zero golfers, zero golf tour buses or mini vans, and only Phoenix staff

vehicles parked. It would seem that the recent t.v. coverage of the Singha tournament exposed the

poor playing conditions at Phoenix. Now the Thai golfers have joined the membership and the local

golf community in playing at friendlier, more reasonably priced courses nearby. After a year of deceit

and deception, it is unlikely that many of the Golden members will be paying the illegal 24,000 baht

    annual fee.

In spite of seriously declining revenue, Phoenix is on a wild spending spree. The existing management

appears hell bent on driving the club into bankruptcy and dissolution, without any consultation with the

membership. The temporary concession to allow walking golf, until business improves, and the recent

attempt to lure back the despicable bar groups with commissions and "special" fees, both show how

    desperate management have become.

The days of dodgy financial data and disrespecting the membership should be brought to an end, through

the courts, or otherwise. Perhaps it is time for a new Bank to step in, appoint a professional management

team, restore competitive prices, consult with the membership, and re-establish Phoenix as good value, not

    a "golf tourist trap".

Despicable bar groups?? Who put a bee under your bonnet? Did you try to join one of the groups but they turned you down?

I am sure Polar Vortex referred to "the despicable bar groups" with a "tongue in cheek." It was Phoenix who originally stopped the bar groups as the new owners considered them not up to the their high standards. Desperation has caused them to lower their view of standards.
