  1. It's rising oil prices marra.

Was expecting the prices to go up. But Alway found China to be the cheapest.

Flight times are canny as well.

    Into Bangkok for about 7.00am.

    Pattaya for about 11.00am

Emirates get me to Bangkok for 1.15pm

So that Patts for around 5.00pm

The way our lass looks at it is we have lost a day lying on the beack like loppy dogs :0

  2. As above I have used the KLM/China flight from Newcastle for my last three trips. When I priced them for my next trip the price was £200 more than what i have previously paid. I managed to get an Emirates flight for £550, however this is for April not December, the flights are always more in december.

have you tried momondo for your flight search?

    Tried them all.

Freedom Flights always been the cheapest for me.

  3. When are these people going to learn that you buy it, then put it in the safe until you go home.....STUPID! I cannot feel sorry for these people who tempt fate.

Please you didn`t say that in front of me!!!!!!

I had a 5Baht chain snatched while riding a bike 2 years ago...

  4. Its because of the new airport taxes in the UK for long haul flights, most people now go to Europe first then long haul to avoid it.

Exchange rate is better now than it has been for last 3-4 months.

It's often considerably cheaper now to hop over to Amsterdam first on a low-cost carrier, and then take the long haul flight from there. The Dutch have abolished their departure tax because they realised that it was driving people away. The penny hasn't dropped yet in Westminster.

The last 15 or so trip were via Amsterdam with China Airlines. But the KLM part from Newcastle has gone up £120 and then China has put on there bit so now over £800.

Just took a look at whet I paid last year ----£620 for me and the wife £460 for the little one (4yo)

This year with Emirates is £739 (surcharge for flying at the weekend) £577

Thats a price increase of £355!!!!!!

Have no choice but to pay it...this year but don`t think I will be coming every year now.

Especially the way the Baht is at the moment.

When I flew home on 30 Dec it was 45 to the pound. Can`t remember when it was so low.

Certainly have to watch where you eat and drink now..

Eg walking street 2 bottles Heineken and a coke 250-260B

Soi Buk (where we stayed) 150+B

  5. Maybe the same in the UK shortly.

One of my neighbours told me only yesterday that he had been running his diesel car on cooking oil for the last month.

Asda is selling it at £1 a litre when diesel is nearly £1.30 a litre.....

    Not a bad saving....

Althought I don`t think I would take the risk on my car.

  6. Stayed at the Dianna in last year and the wife and daughter loved it and the location.

However as I left it a bit late no rooms available.

Tried the Areca Lodge and they are full too.

So settled for the Sawasdee Siam. A friend stayed there a few years ago and said ok if a Superior room.

    So booked it last night.

    Cheers

    Paul

Well the Hotel itself was "ok".

We did get a free buffet breakfast for the 3 of us (Dianna charge for the little one).

Rooms where clean but the overall Hotel is in need of a revamp.

Went for a dip in the pool on my first day.

Was ok except the steps to get out -didn`t have any rungs!!!!!! A tad danerous if you ask me!!!!

The real downer was the fact that the Hotel was full of Russians......

Watching them trying to steal bread and ham from the breakfast buffet every morning was a hoot.

However watching them argue over the price of a ice cream at the pool was a right downer.

What really pissed me off was the way they spoke to the Hotel staff....

    Would I go back-----NO

  8. So are all Ayudthaya ATMs free them????

They (Ayudthaya ATM's ) all seem to be fee free for the Nationwide Visa Debit card.

As lopburi3 pointed out don't use a Mastercard debit/credit in the Ayudthaya ATM or they will do dynamic currency conversion and you'll get a bad exchange rate.

You can also use AEON ATM's

Remember you pay some tax and commission for each travelers check you cash, so try to go for larger denominations.

    Yeah, I ordered £100 cheques.

(Remember the time when £100 would last for days-happy times)

  9. does this mean that if i use a thai atb which charges 150 thb then i get charged twice ie by my visa card and also by the thai atm,,,b;oody rip off!!!

Yes you would be charged 2 fees.

I can report that the Ayudthaya ATM's in Tukcom and at the branch on South Pattaya road are still fee free for me using a Nationwide Visa debit card.

The EAON ATM in Carrefour is downstairs in the narrow walkway to the toilets that is directly opposite the main front entrance,

if you use the car park you'll probably not regard this as the "main entrance"

I have also done over the counter "cash advances" in Siam Comercial and Ayudthaya banks which also avoids the 150 baht rip off.

So are all Ayudthaya ATMs free them????

Having been using my Flex Account card in Thailand as no fees was only ther in December last year.

    Whats happened!!!!!!

    150B fee!!!!!

Looks like I will be obtaining TC before I leave for LOS next month.......

Travelex are doing Stirling for free (However a recorded delivery fee of £3.30) and up to £2500

  10. Pattaya to woo visitors with free rooms

BANGKOK: -- Tourism operators in Pattaya plan to offer free hotel rooms from May 1 to Oct 31 to attract local and international tourists during the low season.

Apart from hotels, restaurants and shopping malls will also join the campaign, offering discounts up to 50%. Final details will be decided tomorrow.

The seaside resort city is facing difficult times because of the global economic recession and local political problems, said Chatchawal Supachayanont, president of the Eastern Chapter of the Thai Hotels Association (THA).

"With this campaign, we hope tourists and meeting, incentive, convention and exhibition (Mice) activities will be lured back to Pattaya again and tourism sentiment will improve as well," he said.

Mr Chatchawal said Pattaya's hotels had about 20,000 rooms and that all operators would join the promotion.

"This is the first time we have had co-operation from all parties, aiming to restore Pattaya's tourism image," he said.

"Average occupancy was not so bad at around 30-40% after the Songkran festival. But we are very concerned about reservations from overseas, which are not coming yet."

Pattaya's image took a hit just before Songkran when red-shirted protesters forced the cancellation of the Asean Summit after they stormed the meeting site, the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel.

Operators in Pattaya hope that when Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva goes abroad he will be able to explain the problems in Thailand and how the government intends to solve them, in order to restore confidence among visitors.

    Free rooms my a**e!!!!!

After 21 years travelling to Thailand the only thing that I have found to be free is mosquito bites.

But has it put me off travelling.......no.

But why is the Baht so strong against the £ after all the red and yellow shirt bulls**t??????

  11. Dear Sir,

Please note that your request has been forwarded already.

Under such circumstances, the refund may take about 4-12 weeks to process.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Peeraya Boonsiriseth

    THAI Net Flight Reservations

    Excellent service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Bangers to the Mai...FIRST CLASS...didnt know they did it...been business many times ....

learn sumit new every day... :o

I think they sometimes put a 747-400 on the route, when traffic is heavy, but can't think why anybody would want to fly 1st-Class on a 50-minute hop ?

The tickets were for my wife and daughter (2) and after travelling for almost 20 hours from the uk home I did not want them to wait another 8 hours at the airport so first class was the only option to fly out after 2 hours.

The return leg was to be economy by the way :D

As luck should have it we were rerouted to CM anyway so didnt need the domestic tickets.

  13. Should have been 12000 baht for 2 tickets 1 way first class return economy class.

    £234

I have sent numerous emails and have yet to receive a reply!!!!

Don`t think I will use the online service again.

Just turn up at the airport and get the next available flight like i have done in the past.

If it is going to take 2 billing cycle, it would have been nice to know for Thai.

    Not to be completely ignored!!!!!

  14. I was due to fly with Thai Airways on 7th December from Bangkok to CM.

As the airport was closed I received an email from Thai to say that I would be given a refund.

On my return to the Uk I have found that I have still to receive a refund.

I have sent several emails to Thai Airways but have yet to receive a reply.

    Anyone else experienced this problem?

I am out of pocket by over 1200 as it was for 2 first class tickets!!!!!
