  1. I have just received word from my lawyer that the Minister has already signed the applications submitted to him.

This should include the 2006 batch. I'm not sure about the 2007 batch, though.

Thank you Working Joe for updating us on the progress of the PR applications. It is very useful to receive this type of feedback as we are all waiting patiently for some news and avenues for realtime information is somewhat limited. An earlier poster mentioned that the 2007 applications would also be sent to the Ministry of Interior this week so I hope this might bring some finalization for both the 2006 and 2007 applicants. Did your lawyer mention whether the approval letters will be sent out soon as I understand that all the PR recipients needs to finalize the PR docs within 1 month of the Minister's signature?

    Many thanks again!

My lawyer conservatively stated that I should get my PR permit 'before the end of this year', but his information about the Minister signing the applications came straight from the top people at Room 301, so I believe the approval letters should come very soon.

  2. Has anyone been asked for a 'facilitating payment' by the PR department officials? My application was in the 2007 batch, and I have just been informed that it has been approved, but I would have to pay 50,000 baht to expedite matters. The consequence of not paying would be that my already-approved application would languish in the waiting tray indefinitely instead of moving up the process chain towards eventually getting the official approval letter issued. Apparently, all other applicants have been asked to pay too but I want to confirm this.

I heard about this too - although I haven't been asked to pay.

Apparently the approvals have gone through (as per my earlier post) but there's one official who is holding things up trying to get some ready cash for himself - much to the annoyance of the immigration dept.

I'd suggest hanging on in there and waiting, and it will come through.....

Yes, it's an official who wants to get a cut, and this person is in a position to make things happen or not happen. I'm using a well-known and reliable law firm, so I don't suspect it's my lawyer who's being cheeky. The requests for payment is going out in batches. My lawyer negotiated for me to be included in the first batch of 150 that would be going up for the final approval. I believe sooner or later, all applicants will get the request.

  4. Hi All,

I've been reading this forum on and off for a couple of years and have found it a very useful source of information both before and after I moved to Thailand.

I've been employed by a Thai company for close to 2 years now on a work permit and non-Imm B visa.

I recently got a job offer from another company in Thailand.

Can anybody help me with these questions:

    1. I plan to apply for permanent residency in Thailand. If I resign from my present job, does that break the continuity of my B visa and I have to start from Year 0 again?

    2. Do I have to leave Thailand to get another 3 month B visa from a Thai consulate abroad to tide me over the period during which my new employer is applying for my new work permit?

    3. I read that somewhere that you can have 2 employers under the same work permit. Can this be done, so that if I resign from one employer, my work permit is still valid for the other employer?

    Thanks for any advice!
