  1. Always good to remind ourselves that life is cheap in Thailand, especially for those earning the minimum wages, if they snapped and maims or murders you for slighting them, prison or whatever consequence there is not a deterrent to them
  2. The concern was that whoever approved the sale would be burdened with causing a 'loss' and taken to court due to the price to get rid of them compared to what was paid for them
  3. The fine for driving an expired/untaxed vehicle is 400-1000 baht so you can look at it a shakedown for a bribe, or convenience discount for paying on the spot If they had been legit, after giving you the 1000 baht ticket it must be entered into the 'system' if you paid at the post office you'd have been given an official receipt. The people at LTO office doing your tax will have no power to do about your situation, you want to make a point go yell in front of the police station, or continue to drive untaxed
  4. Was it a roadside speed gun where they flag you down and hand you a ticket or a photo mailed to your address later?
  5. I don't have outstanding ticket, but when I taxed mine online there are now a screen that checks for unpaid tickets, and I did check on the government app using my 13 digit ID number and all my previous tickets and all cars and bikes under my name came up, even manual handwritten one that's parking related, not just speed camera ones
  6. don't exterior walls count as jointly own by both the unit and under the condo common area? ie any modification to the exterior walls must be approved by the condo management
  7. That's also why it doesn't work with Bangkok underground trains while physical cards are ok, when you tap in, it could present a unique number and not match when you tap out Same with shops that link their POS till with the EDC terminal, if you tap with physical cards they send out credit card number to the shop's own POS terminal to store, but tapping with phones don't, or the number sent out is not what the POS accepts as credit card number
  8. Google Pay/Wallet and Apple Pay is just a way to have your phone act as credit card, it's easier for people that has their phones about them can tap their phone to pay instead of pulling out cards from a wallet, some even leave their cards at home You'd need a passcode or biometric like fingerprint to unlock the phone in order to use, unlike physical cards where if you tap the contactless below certain value it just approves without need for PIN Google Pay/Wallet also shows the detail of what you spent and where in the app which might be easier to keep track of than going through paper statements or via the Bank's App You're correct in that there is no benefits to load money into other electronic wallet if you already has bank accounts and credit/debit cards wallets like Truemoney is more for people without access to Banking like kids, they can receive money from friends online and top up their wallet in cash at 7-11s to buy things or pay for games and stuff online service without needing bank accounts or credit cards With the advent of Promptpay you can already use Thai bank accounts to send and receive money to other people with no fee, but this wasn't always the case, TrueMoney wallet has been around for decade now and was at one time popular with certain audience.
  9. if it's a ticket for not having the car tax, keep that up for three years and you officially don't have to pay anymore as the car will be 'off the road' essentially unregistered for those that say they're able to renew their tax with outstanding tickets in the past, the linking system were fully operational at the start of this year, what you experienced before is no longer true, try taxing your car this year
  10. Yes, to save the cashier's confusion just say you're paying by credit card Google wallet even works with my Thai Bangkok Bank's card
  11. They don't have to, it works just like most emv cards, just ask to pay by credit card, and tap the phone to the edc in 7-11s with multiple cashier, there are 'normal' credit card edc machine usually silver ones, but in bigger 7-11 I noticed there are like 2 'normal' one and one black one that says mastercard only for that particular till, maybe they're trialing cheaper merchant rate to be mastercard only. In big place like homepro you can see multiple edcs from multiple banks as they try to juggle to get the best deal
  12. In Bangkok, many times, but note in some branch only a few machine/till are mastercard only, whereas regular machine are visa/mastercard+others even before they put the minimum back up to 300 baht back in the middle of last year only time I find it didn't work is with some supermarket edc where it must be linked to the cash register and the underground trains
  13. looks like same mold as baht coin from the 60s
  14. as you press the gear lever down between gears, the clutch is engaged, if you pull out your foot halfway, you can vary the amount of clutch that's engaged, the gear lever on these 'honda wave-type underbones' are both ways as they're designed to be able to be pressed down with sandal
  15. I used to hate small scooters, small unstable wheels, the belt drive needs cleaning and adjusting as much as chains, had a few from Honda Clicks to Yamaha Fino, always prefer my proper big bike (Kawasaki Ninja) over them any time of the day.... but then I discovered Honda Waves... the bigger wheels are perfect for Thai roads, handle bars narrow enough to squeeze through Bangkok traffic engine and drivetrain takes abuses fine, any shop can fix easily, even for hilly riding you can feather the clutch with your heels to engine brake
  16. You think temple school in Nakhon Nowhere has access to the cadet program? or the parents can afford the uniforms?
  17. not the lottery red/black card pick for him, he's refusing to enlist which is straight to jail rather than serving out time in barracks
  18. real question is that does it do away the need for hand drawn map?
  19. some of my powerbank double as usb hub, useful for when your computer only has usb-c and you need to plug regular usb-a things in the only way to be sure is to charge the powerbank, and use the charged powerbank on the phone later
  20. Imagine what they could do if they got a hold of immigration data, say after lodging your annual extension you got a call
  21. Going back to Australia, in cities you notice horns for what we who are accustomed to in Thailand, to be inane reason to reach for the horn, like the light turn green half a second ago? honk, cars making a u-turn in front, horn, like we both can reach for the brakes, dinging each other and spending 20 minutes exchanging insurance information is not worth it even if you're in the right.
  22. Good idea to have the banking app's PIN they ask when transferring money and such not be the same PIN as your phone unlock code, otherwise if they had remote access to your phone, they could throw up fake lockscreen while queuing up transfers in the background, the moment you try to unlock your phone, poof goes your money. Although most Thai banking app seem to be pretty vigilant on not running on the same phone with anything suspicious like screen sharing/remote access now, the scammer could be really advance and use undetectable method
  23. Some banks require initial facial recognition to be at the branch or ATM, It is mostly to deter mule accounts where some poor folks open an account and sell to scammers for 500-1000 baht, and scammers use it to receive money via phone scams or online gambling, the facial recognition just makes it more difficult to transfer out to other accounts in bulk, these accounts get shut down often as victims report them. If the app lets the user do the initial scan themselves there's no protection against the scammer in control of the accounts scanning their own face instead of the account holder's name on the book, unless the banks has access to the Thai ID database they can compare against It also protects in case of compromised phone to prevent hackers from emptying accounts
