In marginal situations, that long sojourn in Thailand three years ago could be a factor. Assuming you have few visa exempt entries since mid 2015, and no other stays in the last year other than the one you mentioned, you should be fine entering visa exempt this time.

Thanks for your input BritTim. I think I will give it a go just arriving at the airport. It's so long since the 2 year tourist visas stay(all stickers in passport, not visa exempts in those years up t mid 2016), I wonder would they bother going back 5 years when have been out for 3 full years. I suppose the worst is I have to use card to buy onward ticket inside  terminal ????  and leave

You probably mean, "... and get a visa-exempt entry on arrival for 30 days."

I think it should be ok, especially if it's not back-to-back with previous.

Thanks for your reply. On my old passport I had 2 year back to back tourist visas up to mid 2016 and then out of country for 3 full years and returned on a new passport. I do wonder if that might still bother them. They seem really strict nowadays.

    That should be okay.

You won’t be asked for onward fight or hotel bookings unless they are looking to possibly deny entry, which is highly unlikely based on your history.

They have a full record of your previous visits on their computer system and don’t  just go by what they see in your passport.

Thanks for your reply. 1 thing, though, I stayed for near 2 years on back to back tourist visa mid 2014-16...and been away for 3 full years, not returned and hence on new passport. I wonder if the previous passport stays would be noticed. I had no issues when here in those 2 years and lleft without being asked or denied visas, but if they did look back I guess they can see I have a history of staying a lot longer...albeit a long while ago.

  4. Hi,

I am a UK passport holder with a 60 day visa + a 30 day extension early March to May 20 in my passport. My passport is mostly empty pages and no other Thai visas. My query is, is it fine to fly into Bangkok and get a visa on arrival for 30 days or does my previous visa history of 60+ 30 extension mean I am  treated different, flagged by their system as having spent quite a bit of time in country already? Can I just get stamped in as tourist on arrival? I am unsure about it or if I need have onward plane ticket or hotel bookings. Thanks for any info on this type of query.
