  1. I need some help  to how to do the following  in regards to marriage please.

I am an Aust Citizen and want to marry my Thai g/f. Have known each other for over two and a half years. I been to Thai and spent time with her on 3 occasions for about 4 weeks each time.

She has been on a tourist visa  two times 3 months at a time and now she is over here with a tourist visa again for 1 year multiple entries.

After her visa expires our intention is that I go with her to Thailand and get married there.

My queries are:   Am I doing this the best way by marrying over there, then apply for her to get permanent residency for Aust. (intentions to live here). I believe it costs about $7000 for this. Also is it very difficult to fill this application without an agent as agents fee is quite high. If this is ok to do, would she be able to come back to Aust with some other kind of visa and stay till application for her permanent visa is finalized?

I am 68 semi retired and she is 47 if that helps

  2. Thank you for your replies. I been weighing my options. I got a Thai girlfriend who I known nearly 2 years and was hoping to avoid the inevitable for as long as I can. I been there with her and she come over for 3 months (sponsored by me). I believe she is only permitted to come to oz for so many times, and seem they only get 3 months at a time. The other option is to marry which they can get 9 months provided you get married. If someone know better please assist as a lot I hear is hearsay and also it gets complicated for me.

  3. Thank you for your responses. It looks a very bleak prospect to live in Thailand if you are over 60 - 65. I am sure there are 1000's living in Thailand over 60. Would it be that most are rich and can afford the fees that are charged? Or many taking risks and whatever will be will be. I am an Australian citizen and no way I am a rich. I still work part time, with part pension and some super. I think best way for me be as I read in another thread to have part of my super set aside as my own insurance for anything that can happen. Seeing the restrictions that insurance companies put on you, even paying them $1000's a year is no guarantee that you get covered for all your needs.

As they say.......Whatever will be will be. :)

  4. Hello.........I am 67 and been a few times to Thailand. My query about health insurance in Thailand. Do you or most of you that live there have health insurance. At my age would be exorbitant cost to have. I believe in the vicinity of $100 per week. If living there and not have health insurance would the government hospital/clinic accommodate foreigners?

A concern for me if have to live there on permanent basis. Thanking you for any information.

  5. Thank you Suradit69. My concern is that my booking for Thailand is for 6 weeks. I am not sure when I get to airport to leave from Australia the airline (Jetstar) would want me to have a visa, otherwise they might not let me board.

I intend to go to Cambodia, and I taught having to get a visa is a waste of time and money as my intention is to be out from Thailand for a few days before my allowable 30 days.

  6. Thank you for your reply Ubonjoe. I taught of getting tickets for Cambodia before I leave, but I am going with friend/s from Thailand and not sure the exact day that we be going. That part was for when I arrive there and organize and get the tickets from Thailand. I have to try and see if I can organize the flights from here or if a better way I can do it.

  7. Can someone tell me the best way if I need to get a visa please. I am sure this would have come up before but not sure were to find it.

I got an Australian passport, and intend to be most of time in Thailand. I be over for six weeks.

My query is.....On Oz passport get 30 days without getting a visa. My airline ticket will show return after 6 weeks, but I intend to fly to Cambodia before 4 weeks and fly back in to Thailand thus getting another 30 days covering the rest of my stay.

Would I have a problem at Australian a/port when I check in, or when I arrive in Thailand?

I been to Thailand several times but usually leave withing 30 days. I once made a visa for 2 months as I stayed for 6 weeks without going out.

If I can do this trip without getting the visa from Oz makes it more easy on my behalf.

    Thanking you for good advice.
