  1. Is there any evidence that poor airport screening has anything to do with these bad actors? Wouldn't the rampant police corruption and bribery be a more logical place to start looking than slowing everyone down at the airport? Smells like security theatre.
  2. Maybe because of the lack of social fabric, whether it be families (decimated) or public programs (never adequate), to deal with their mental illness. They come here looking for an easy life and their problems come with them. Maybe?
  3. Something tell me this is not just a moment, but part of a pattern. You don't do this kind of thing just once in a while. As long as there is clear evidence, then let's just throw him off a fishing boat in deep water, and let the sharks have him.
  4. I think it's because it's cheap and easy to live here, and people of the type you mention (some are female btw) are unable to hold a job or get up in the morning or interact with their own cultures so they take refuge here.
  5. The seriousness to which this will be taken will be inversely proportional to the net worth of the foreigner.
  6. According to him, if you're rich he'll invite you to sit by his pool. He would only kick you if you are poor.
  7. The only reason this is getting attention is that the Thai victims were themselves upper class educated Thais. If they had been poor they also would have been ignored. It's not about race, it's about class. It's always about rich vs. poor, because the rich generally have little to no sympathy for poor people. https://www.psychologicalscience.org/news/rich-less-empathetic-than-poor-study-says.html
  8. Good for you Thai people! Speak up. The police will not help you, you aren't rich enough to matter, so maybe it's time to stand up for your rights. Everywhere this guy goes he should be scorned and mocked until he learns his lesson and goes back to his own country in my opinion. What a scumbag.
  9. It's funny to hear this phrase "attitude adjustment session" used unironically.
  10. And this is why they don't allow batteries in your checked bag. Imagine if this happened in the luggage compartment! Some airline rules are lifesavers. "Turn off your cell phones" and "take off your shoes" are both notable exceptions.
  11. I'm skeptical. No true Scotsman would commit such a crime! </IYKYK>
  12. Yes, and many ban Durian fruit. Still a completely ridiculous government mandate.
  13. Meh, it's still funny. TIT baby. Can't get more "Thai government" than this sort of thing.
  14. This is called the "No True Scotsman" fallacy. The truth is that monks, even abbots, can be also child rapists. Two things can be true at the same time. Truly and really. Pretending otherwise is to expose more children to assault.
  15. The young woman spoke through a medium as she rebuked her insurance company for refusing to pay her for her death.
  16. Everybody visiting Thailand thinks drugs are a joke until the popo show up. Be smart out there.
  17. He was probably a useless POS too lazy to fund such ventures. Obviously he relied on her wealth and good graces. Rot in hell I say to that guy. Assuming the reporting is correct of course.
  18. I hope this guy enjoys his brief life in Thai prison.
  19. Maybe he couldn't figure out how to get the money out of Thailand?
  20. Funny how hard that was to figure out at the time. I seem to remember this argument being made loud and clear in real time. Not sure why it took this long for them to rule that a fact is a fact. Or maybe I am sure...
  21. Their kids only have to live long enough to give them grandsons and help them in retirement. Who cares if they live past 50?
  22. "moving the goalpost..." the point was not to mistreat them, the question is more generally, whether raising animals in captivity is moral, yes or no. If you think not, then we should release all dogs, cats, hamsters, birds, etc into the wild. If you are ok with captured birds in peoples' homes, then you should be ok with tigers, assuming they are treated well. I think either are valid viewpoints, but usually people do not think this through very well or argue this point.
