Ideally, the bride's parents should give their daughter a dowry of minimum 400k Baht with the condition that she put it in a fixed deposit account in her husband's name, for him to meet immigration's financial requirements for the one-year extensions of stay.

Yeah, but the global warming thing isn't about Thailand or your experience.

It's the cumulative data from the whole World, over a long period and therefore is statistically valid.

There is global warming taking place and it's Man-made.

Explained debt to GF and she got out of it quickly.

Does not want a credit card,

Bought a house with no issues.

  4. I am living in the Philippines where every 2nd or 3rd house is a small store. They call them Sari Sari stores. They sell most things in packets like coffee all the different 2 in 1 3 in 1 4 in 1 etc. My wife has inherited the family store and she sells everything imaginable. One good item your wife may care to try selling dried fish I know Thai's love it. and its not really perishable. We sell cooking oil in small finger size plastic  bags, ciggs and tobacco leaves all the soft drinks and cheap small and medium size bottles of  Philippino rum and whisky. We even sell 5-6 different types of rice. Small sachets of washing powder and hair shampoo and just about everything else found in the supermarkets. Its a pain restocking all the time luckily my wife has 3 brothers and they do all the fetching and carrying. She makes a good living nearly equal to my Aussie pension. Hope this info was helpful.

I've made road trips before from Bangkok to Korat to Chiangmai it's actually a beautiful drive but I sure wouldn't try it during Songkran or really during any major holiday.  I wouldn't even want to fly during Songkran.  He might want to rethink his travel plans.

Totally agree I have made the trip several times over the years and its a great drive when not done during an official holiday period.

  6. What a stupid idea to travel Bkk to Chiangmai and back by road for Songkran. I did this trip on my first trip to Thailand many years ago and was travelling with a Thai family who should have known better. The road to Chiangmai was gridlocked for most of the way. Plus there was no way to dodge the water, even had some nut poke a water blaster thru a slightly open window to shower the inside of the van, However I was younger in those days and he ended up in hospital with a smashed face. However inside the car was soaked as it was a very large gun type water blaster. Best to leave well before Songkran and leave well after its all over.

This sort of stuff is never ending and is merely one of dozens of reasons the place is not packed out with farang. It is one of the most backward, corrupt and venal countries on the planet. Makes Cambodia look like Singapore. You are never safe from their deceit and desperation. Not a girlfriend, not even a wife.

Millions of young , pretty, desperate women with insanely low standards and yet the vast majority of farang would not live there if it were free.

If you think I'm only slagging Filipinos, I have equal disdain for the foreigners living there. Seems they are all hiding, all on the run. All on pension scams, petty criminals. Only exceptions are US servicemen.

    Dirty, dangerous and broken.

I disagree with your opinion. I am living in the Philippines and I am not hiding or on the run or on a pension scam and neither am I a petty criminal. I have lived in Thailand and there is no difference between the farangs living there or in the Philippines. Hope to see you in a bar sometime and re educate you.

Thereis a very dangerous problem concerning PI girls and foreign men.i saw a case on the programme 'banged up abroad'

Uk guy goes to PI for a holiday.Meets a girl, she tells him she has a kiddy from her former marriage and has custody.Guy excepts it says he will be back to the PI soon. While he is at home, girl contacts him and tells him she is pregnant. He goes back with the intention of bringing her back to the UK.Unfortuanatley she didnt tell him that her ex husband has not signed the divorce papers. When he returns, she and him are arrested. The gf for adultery and the guy for having sex with a married woman. The ex wants a big payout or he will take her son from her(because now she is an unfit mother and planning to take the son out of the Pi)According to Pi she was in the wrong, but the husband was a chancer and after a deal. They both go to prison.I cant quite remember the outcome, but the Lawyer has to get the Uk guy a gun to protect himself from the  ex and his friends. The uk guy had to pay to get out of prison and for the girl too.I think it all ended well, and they escaped the PI with their lawyers help, and now they are back in the Uk.If anyone saw the prog, maybe they could let me know if all my facts are correct.

I remember that case, it all ended up well with he woman and baby and the guy escaping the country to the UK with the aid of the British Consul.
