  1. My wife and I have had an MG5 for just on two years. It’s a cheap and cheerful motor that does everything you’d want and expect for a mid size, mid priced sedan (689000฿) We’ve done 40000km of city and open road driving now and the only issue we’ve had was a noisy fuel pump in the first month of ownership. It’s a little heavy on fuel compared to Hondo r Toyota (8-11/km) but that’s to be expected from the spec of the car IMO I find it comfortable, low road noise, decent sound system, excellent aircon. We’re both happy with our purchase

  5. I hope to obtain a work permit in the very near future and start the process to naturalisation. I’ve been told by pretty much everyone, thai and foreigner, don’t waste my time, it’s too difficult, the system is against you and so on. I’m ready for the years long uphill climb
  6. I’ve had a warranty claim on a 65000฿ Virtual Reality head set after purchasing from an online reseller. I contacted HTC directly after instruction from the online reseller. It was a bit of a ball breaker but ultimately I had the failed part replaced under warranty. It certainly wasn’t a simple process and I ended up going the the manufacturer head office in BKK, from Pattaya, twice to resolve the issue.

  10. I bought a house with my wife as a ‘forever’ home and to give myself room for my cars and bikes. I could probably have found a property I could negotiate areas to modify for paint and panel work but in the end I chose the path of least resistance and headaches and just bought. My house was listed at 7mil, dropped to 6 as it had sat for 12 months and we then closed that deal at 5. I used a highly recommended lawyer from a big firm (foreign owned and managed) and negotiated terms directly with the vendor. Like you, as you know, I invest my money mostly elsewhere so I approached the vendor for a short term vendor mortgage which was agreed on. 3mil down, 1mil over 3 years at 2%, final payment 1mil (rough figured obviously) and kept my money working for me. When it came to land transfer I stipulated that the chanote was to be transferred to my wife on down payment of the 3mil, the mortgage to be recorded on the back of the chanote (did my research), had my lawyers inspect the contracts drawn up by the vendor and attended the land department office with the vendor on the day of transfer. I left absolutely nothing up to anyone else or without my direct supervision Everything went to plan, no hiccups or surprises. And as an added bonus, we’ll two actually. With the 1mil final payment swinging in the breeze the vendor approached me about 12 months into the mortgage period asking if they could access the final payment early to ‘upgrade machine’ at their factory. A bit if back and forth and I managed to secure a further 235000฿ discount on the total cost of the property. A nice, cheeky return Add to that I got in on the bottom floor at the start of the short lived lithium boom recently and paid the remainder out of the profits from a speculative Aussie lithium ‘miner’ (ASX:LKE) So all in all for me a very positive experience. I was very involved in the whole process, I did my research and left nothing up to anyone else to ‘take care of’. It’s the only way to do things here And like you, if it doesn’t work out with the wife I’ll probably just move on
  11. A close friend had a similar issue renewing his Canadian passport. Issues with identification and communication issues with the BKK embassy. Long story short, expired visa, many months overstay, 150K฿ to get around the issue via an ‘agent’ It does sound like there are some issues with renewals there ????????‍♂️

  14. I got married 20.02.2020 at the Banglamung Tesaban in what was very quick and painless. -booked an appointment at my embassy -trip to BKK to obtain the freedom to marry doc, at the Aus embassy in my case. The staff directed me to the translation service almost directly next door. I paid a little extra and came back just after lunch to collect -off I go to the MFA office at Khlong Toei MRT station. Missed same day, requires morning drop off (again directed by the embassy staff) -returned to the MFA office at 10am then back to Pattaya -a week later lined up at Banglamung Tesaban, got a number, waited. Had an interview with the district head, paid a few hundred baht (plus extra for the nice book and copies of my marriage certificate), waited some more and we were done. All in all a few days and maybe 5000฿
