There is no other minimum salary requirement other than for that clause of the police order.
In the same police order there is none for teaching.
There is also no minimum salary to get a work permit.
Point is, using these Gov stated minimum levels, its a very rough indicator that 40K or 60K is not "high income", as the OP claims.
Not arguing about the legal fine print - just the OP's view on what is a high income level.
x2 to x5 range would be a high income for local hire.
x5 to x10 range for expat hire.

From the police order for extension of stay.
..eer...yeah...so there are minimum income levels

There is no law that sets a minimum income.
To apply for an extension of stay based upon working for a company at immigration requires a minimum salary of 25k to 50k baht dependent upon nationality.
Could be right - could be wrong.

and
From the 10 th of July 2004 , foreigners applying for non-immigrant visa extensions for employment in Thailand will have to meet an increased minimum monthly salary requirement by nationality and amount. It should be noted that this regulation applies to employees in the corporate sector (profit-making business). Employees with lower monthly salaries in other professions, such as teachers, can apply for non-immigrant visa extensions and work permits for employment in Thailand provided that the are able to provide an official letter of confirmation from a relevant government agency.
...but, no point arguing the toss as it's seemingly not enforced.

40K - "high income" ? Don't think so.
Isn't there a law that states the minimum income to be paid to a foreigner is 60K? Thought I heard of that quite a few years back.
-
"ect" ?
My advice - don't.
They will see you coming.
-
What can you do?
Well, as a student at a uni, it is good to plan stuff, like, eerr, I dunno, work schedules for deadlines? Oh yes, don't forget your visa....Ooppss!
Sort it out son.

Why do people share such rubbish on TVF?
What are you hoping to get from this? Counselling? Someone to tell you how to behave, or wipe your rear for you?
Is this article really worthy of being highlighted as a featured topic?
Surely this level of article is just gutter press, tittle tattle or agony aunt dross.
Come on adults - get a grip.

Head slap.
Try an experiment, and report back.

The enemy are circling my classroom (said in an Arnie voice), lock the door, close the windows, where's my uzzi, ...
You're working illegally. What gives you the right? Get with the programme.
-
...and you ask TVF this question!?
Great choice.
Maybe try a Thai lawyer.

It's a sign from God.
Get up at 5am and do some prayer and meditation, enhancing your spiritual condition, while eradicating your anger and resentment.
It's a sign a sign, the any turned left instead of right, let's all go commit ritualistic suicide....when will the species grow up and dump all this mystic religious supernatural gumpf. This 5am noise pollution is typical whereby the starting point is to love people and the supernatural dictator (love me or be punished), do this by gathering, do this by sounding an alarm which also annoys the beep out of the majority of people and thereby creates the opposite of a loving feeling between people, thereby being self defeating. Zero consideration. The same undermining circle applies to all religions, so don't get narky. If you choose to follow a religion, which is your right, don't do anything that impacts negatively on others, thanks very much. Oppressing non believers in your outdated cult is the worst form of selfishness and hate. So love for real, and turn off that beeping racket.

Record the conversation.
Ask them why?
Ask for their ID first, and copy the info plus take photos.
Tell them you will follow up by checking with their station.
Then show them your ID.
Maybe they want to stop somewhere along this process.
If they are legit, they won't object.

Again?
All they want is your foreign currency, which you are already giving them.
They are too stubborn to accept any other form of help, advice, etc.
So just enjoy yourself.

Rich guys in, they "donate" their wealth, they leave poor.
So TAT is promoting cons, tricks, and all measures possible to force a "donation" from wealthy tourists.

If you are unlucky with your local immigration, your long-term residence being in the system does not exonerate you from reporting your reappearance every time you spend more than 24 hours away from home. Those who are really lucky have local immigration who still do not care about TM-30 reports at all. There is no consistency.
For the example case you quote, the TM 30 is not my problem is it.
I totally get this is a mad and impossible system.
My point was...don't stress.
-
I don't stress over it.
If I go somewhere on a very temporary basis, such as a couple of nights visiting a friend in another part of the country, I doubt the authorities could ever know about such an event.
For 99% of the time, it's either someone loses problem (eg hotel) or my actual long term residence which is permanently in the system already.

Rules and regulation are used define the requirements under the law. They are not normally used to create a punishment under the law.
Here there are ministerial regulations that are written and then approved by the cabinet.
The order for banning is outside the normal way things are done.
Banning before was only done before for a serious criminal offense under certain acts and was done after a person was found guilty of a crime by a court.
He still doesn't get it.
Go argue the case based on your interpretation and your view on the legal system, which is not the Thai view of their legal system, and see how far you get.
Let's recap...
Falang who clearly broke the rules, with no connection, and has to resort to TVF for legal advice..
Versus
Minister, military gov, judicial system without separation, face saving, strict environment given various circumstances,
...yep...very one sided.
Argue as much as you like, but staying firmly fixed in your mindset is not going to win you anything, unfortunately, TIT.
Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to a family dinner with a family friend and her husband who happens to be a judge. So what do I know.
But, I concede, stranger things have happened, so best of luck.
